Jesup man gets life in beating death of girlfriend's 3-year-old son

A Jesup man will spend life in prison after a Wayne County jury convicted him this week of felony murder and cruelty to children in the death of his girlfriend’s young son, officials said.

A jury selected Monday heard evidence later that day and Tuesday before finding Trevor Foster, 24, guilty, District Attorney Jackie
Johnson said.

Foster was convicted of the May 2012 beating death of 3-year-old Elisha Axson Jones of Jesup.

After a sentencing hearing Wednesday, Superior Court Judge Roger B. Lane sentenced Foster to life in prison without the possibility of parole, Johnson said.

Foster admitted beating Elisha but asserted that the beating did not cause the boy’s death, Johnson said.

Foster had taken the boy’s mother to work and Elisha was left in his care, Johnson said.

When he returned to pick up his girlfriend, he left Elisha at home, Johnson said.

“He said there was some issue with the child,’’ and when they got to the house they found him near death, Johnson said.

Elisha died of injuries that included massive blunt force trauma to the front and back of his head, Johnson said.
