BROOKLYN COONS - 23 months - Coffeyville KS

A Montgomery County jury has convicted a southeast Kansas woman in the death of a 23-month-old child in her care.Attorney
General Steve Six's office said Monday that the jury on Friday found
27-year-old Melissa Cynthia Wells Coons of Coffeyville guilty of felony
murder and child abuse.Coons was convicted in the 2008 death of
Brooklyn Coons, daughter of Randy Coons, who Melissa Wells Coons lived
with. Randy Coons and Melissa Wells Coons married after Brooklyn's
death, but before criminal charges were filed.Sentencing has
been set for Dec. 3. Coons faces a maximum of life with chance for
parole after 20 years on the murder conviction, and 31 months to 136
months on the child abuse conviction.
