Authorities confirmed Monday night that a body
found this weekend near a rural Nebraska town is that of a missing
northeast Nebraska teenager, but they did not release details about
the circumstances surrounding her death.
The Pierce County Attorney's Office issued a statement saying
the body had been identified as belonging to Lacey Anderson, 19, of
Norfolk, Neb.
A sheriff's department official said deer hunters found
Anderson's body about noon Saturday in a grove of trees south of
Pierce, a city about 15 miles northwest of Anderson's hometown of
Norfolk.
Although her body was found Saturday, authorities did not
confirm her identity until after an autopsy was conducted Monday in
Sioux City.
The Norfolk Police Department has been investigating Anderson's
disappearance since Aug. 26. Police say she was reported missing by
her parents. She is believed to have been last seen by her mother
at 4 p.m. Aug. 23 in Norfolk.

The discovery of a body that turned out to be missing Norfolk teen, Lacey
Anderson still leaves her family with many questions. But, they can now
just begin the grieving process.
When Lacey Anderson went missing three months ago, life as her family knew it– had stopped.
While the news of her death isn't making it any easier, it's the
good times they had with Lacey they say– will get them through this
hard time.
Lacey's sister Tennille says its, "All the happy memories, her goofy personality."
Her sister Felica adds, "Her long blonde hair she always flopped."
Her mom Pam has to agree, "She always said I love you, she always said "muah!" and gave you a kiss when she left."
That's the way Lacey Anderson's family wants her to be remembered.
The beautiful girl, who loved her family and had a beaming smile.
Not for a few bad decisions her family says– don't identify with the person she really was.
"Lacey was a very special girl. She just got mixed up with the wrong
kids– but she was a good girl, she really was. She was beautiful,
sweet, nice." Says Lacey's Grandmother, Karen Schmode.
While the discovery of Lacey isn't bringing the family the closure
they were hoping for– after missing for three months, Lacey can finally
rest in peace.
Her family however, won't rest until they get some answers.
"I just hope whoever did this has conscious and maybe even come
forward and let us know who did this if someone knows and bring justice
because we just can't believe the world is really like this, that
someone would do something like this to such a beautiful girl." Says
Schmode.
"I hope they find the person who did this. Her life was taken from
us and we don't know how, we don't know where. We want justice. Justice
will reap." Says Pam Hess.
Justice for a girl taken from the world too soon.
"She will be very missed & I love Lacey forever." Says Schmode.
"We love her and we always will and she is in heaven watching over us." Says Pam.
Visitation for Lacey will be Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, her funeral is being held this Friday at 10:30am at the Our Savior Lutheran church in Norfolk.
There is also a fund set up for the family, under Lacey's name, at Wells Fargo banks in Norfolk.

We've also learned the FBI may be tying that murder to the disappearance of Peru State Student, Tyler Thomas.
19 year-old Lacey Anderson of Norfolk disappeared on August 23, 2009.
Her body was found three months later in the woods by hunters.
Lacey's mother Pam Johnson tells 1011News, the F.B.I. began looking into her daughter's murder one week after Tyler Thomas' disappearance.
Johnson says Joshua Keadle, the person of interest in the Thomas' case, lived in Norfolk when Lacey disappeared.
Johnson, who was working as a manager at Anytime Fitness in Norfolk, says Keadle and her daughter both worked out at that gym. Johnson says she knows Lacey and Keadle were at the gym at the same time.
She also says Keadle worked at a bar and a pool hall Lacey and her friends frequented.
An autopsy was performed in 2009 when Lacey's body was found. Now the FBI is performing its own autopsy, and Johnson is waiting for those results.
Keadle is currently in the Nemaha County Jail on rape charges.

Police seek missing woman with York ties
By Melanie Wilkinson
YORK — Law enforcement authorities across the state continue to look for Lacey Anderson, a 19-year-old Norfolk woman, who a family member says once lived in York.
Lana Thun of Battle Creek, Anderson’s great-aunt, asked that Anderson’s photo be published here, in an expanded effort for gain more information about her whereabouts. Thun says Anderson lived, as a youth, in the York area for approximately seven years.
Anderson has been missing since Aug. 23.
While law enforcement officials with the Nebraska State Patrol, Madison County and the Norfolk Police Department say they are following a number of leads, none of that information was generated by an actual sighting of Anderson.
Anderson is five feet, three inches tall, and weighs 120 pounds. She has blond hair and blue eyes. She also has a tattoo of a horseshoe on her right foot and a star on her right ankle.
Sgt. Mike Bauer of the Norfolk Police Department told the Norfolk Daily News (NDN) that they are not ruling out foul play and that “all possibilities are on the table.”
According to the NDN, there are a number of incidents tied to Anderson that could be related to her disappearance. There was an attempted burglary at the apartment where she was living with her mother, Pam Hess, close to the same timeframe in which Anderson was last seen.
There’s also the issue of Anderson being present at the time a search warrant was served at the home of Rodrigo Ortega Garcia, a 37-year-old Costa Rican national who was wanted on a Madison County warrant on several counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of methamphetamine, failure to appear and theft by shoplifting. Anderson was subsequently charged with possession of meth, but that charge was later dismissed.
An arrest warrant was issued for Anderson two weeks ago after she failed to appear in Madison County Court on a charge of driving under suspension. She’s also due in court this week for sentencing on a revocation of probation for driving under the influence and felony charges involving a drive-by shooting.
The NDN reports that family members “say the way Anderson left was uncharacteristic, leaving her cell phone battery, clothes and money behind. Anderson’s mother said she doesn’t think she would run away from her court obligations.”
York Chief of Police Don Klug says his department has been contacted by the investigating agencies regarding this case.
“Yes, we have provided some assistance in this case,” Klug said. “That is the extent of our involvement at this time. We are trying to provide any assistance when we can.”
Klug said the last contact local police had with Anderson was in 2001.
If anyone has any information about Anderson’s whereabouts, they can contact a number of agencies, including: the York Police Department at 363-2640; York Area Crime Stoppers at 362-2999; the Norfolk Police Department, 644-8700; the Madison County Sheriff’s Department at 454-2110; the Nebraska State Patrol, 370-3456; or the Norfolk Area Crime Stoppers at 371-7300.

No FBI investigation into Anderson's death
By TRISHA SCHULZ | Posted Jan 29, 2011
The Nebraska State Patrol has spoken with the FBI regarding the death of Norfolkan Lacey Anderson.
But the FBI has not taken over the case, a state patrol spokesman said Saturday.
He said some misinformation is being broadcast on TV news and in other newspapers, including that the Anderson case is connected to Josh Keadle, 29, who has been labeled a person of interest in the disappearance of a Peru State College student.
Local agencies — including the state patrol, Pierce and Madison county sheriff’s offices and Norfolk Police Division — have followed up on all of the leads that have come in on Anderson’s death, the spokesman said.
Anderson, 19, was last seen on Aug. 23, 2009, at the Norfolk apartment she shared with her mother, Pam Johnson. Her body was found three months later in rural Pierce County.
Law enforcement have not released a cause of death.
Although the FBI has not taken over the Anderson case, agents certainly are available for assistance if needed, the state patrol spokesman said.
Johnson said she identifies with families whose daughters are dead or missing like Peru State College student Tyler Thomas who disappeared Dec. 3.
She’s also following the news about Kailee Clapp, the 14-year-old from McCook whose body was found Jan. 21. A Bartley man has been charged with first-degree murder in Clapp's death.
Johnson said hearing about those cases prompted her to seek more publicity about her daughter's death with the hope of finding more details. She also wants Anderson's story publicized on shows like "48 Hours" about unsolved mysteries.
