AIDEN WILSON - 13 months - (2010) Somerton/Yuma County AZ
Somerton AZ ---- A 13-month
old child has died and the parents are under arrest, according to a
relative at the scene.
According to a sheriff's office spokesman, rescue personnel received a
call around 11:40am Wednesday morning. The child's parents had called
911, saying the boy was found in a 4-foot-deep makeshift septic tank. A
911 operator helped someone on the scene administer CPR, but the child
died.
The parents told sheriff's deputies the child had only been missing
for a few minutes, but authorities say the child body temperature
indicates he was underwater for quite awhile.
The child's great-grandfathers identified the child as
13-month-old Aiden Wilson.
The accident happened outside the family's trailer in Somerton. They
family operated a pony riding business. The great-grandfather says
there are two other children living in the home. He says both parents
have been arrested. No word on their charges.

Re: AIDEN WILSON - 13 months - (2010) Somerton/Yuma County AZ
A 14-month-old Somerton boy was pronounced dead Wednesday
afternoon at Yuma Regional Medical Center after drowning in an open
septic tank, according to a Yuma County Sheriff's official.
YCSO spokesman, Capt. Eben Bratcher said the boy's father has been
arrested on a charge of hindering prosecution. The mother, according to
Bratcher, could also face charges.
The arrest came after YCSO investigated the scene and questioned the
parents.
"We will be taking a hard look at the circumstances that led up to
this," said Bratcher.
"Based on preliminary information based on body temperature, it looks
as if he may have been in there for some time."
The homemade septic system, as described by Bratcher, is a four foot
deep open pit with a sewage line running directly from the home's waste
plumbing into it.
Robby Rodriguez, of the Somerton/Cocopah Fire Department, said rescue
personnel responded to the 11000 block of Somerton Avenue at 11:39 a.m.
after the child was found by family members in the septic tank.
Before SCFD arrived on scene, Rural/Metro dispatchers were coaching
family members on how to perform CPR.
Rodriguez said the boy's heart had stopped and fluid from the septic
tank was present in the lungs and respiratory system as paramedics began
treatment. Paramedics continued CPR, inserted an airway, placed the
child on a cardiac monitor and started IVs.
"We were on scene treating the little boy for five minutes and we
left from the residence and were at YRMC in another five," Rodriguez
said. "It was a 10-minute call."
Even though the call lasted only minutes, Rodriguez said it can still
greatly affect responding rescue personnel emotionally.
"The hardest calls for firefighters to respond to are the ones
involving children, especially drowning calls. A lot of the firefighters
have small children and after the call will think about their own kids
because they are human, too."
Rodriguez said the five rescue personnel involved in this incident
will be offered counseling.
"After the call, reality sets in. After any traumatic event, the fire
administration puts us through a Crisis Stress Incident Management
class, which is comprised of other firefighters who are trained to talk
about the call they went on so they don't take it home with them."
SCFD advises those who are responsible for children to watch them
around water at all times.

Re: AIDEN WILSON - 13 months - (2010) Somerton/Yuma County AZ
The mother of a child found drowning
in a cesspool is now facing homicide charges. Crystal Bailey (20)
appeared in court Tuesday for the first time. It's been less than a
week since a 14-month-old boy was found drowning in, what's described
as, a make-shift septic tank. This happened on a rental property in
Somerton.
Bailey's court appearance comes a day after her boyfriend,
20-year-old Michael James Wilson, was formally charged with hindering
prosecution. According to investigators the couple's one-year-old son
had fallen into a back yard cesspool and later died. Investigators say
the father was less than forthcoming, but it was Bailey who was
ultimately responsible.
"You're pending charges for a violation of ARS 13-1104 which is
second degree murder. This is a class one felony and also for ARS
section 13-3623 child abuse," Judge Jorge Lozano told Bailey.
The judge set bond for $500,000. He also added a few conditions for
release. Bailey is not allowed to visit the Somerton property where it
all happened, and she is not allowed to have contact with Wilson.
Prosecutors have until Thursday to file a complaint.
