Mourners Tuesday were told that Kayleah
Wilson's killer eventually will face justice either on Earth or
elsewhere.
"That person, one day, will stand before God. And he will avenge her
death," said Pastor Arron Chambers of Journey Christian Church.
Chambers presided over a memorial service that drew about 450
mourners to the Plaza Hotel and Conference Center Ballroom in downtown
Greeley.
Kayleah, who loved Ireland and snowball fights, cherished above all
peace and forgiveness.
"This just doesn't make sense," Chambers said. "She should be outside
laughing with her friends and enjoying this beautiful day.
"She should have made it to that birthday party."
Kayleah, 12, was reportedmissing March 28 after she failed to show up at a friend's
birthday party. Police and volunteer searchers combed the area around
the Wilson family apartment near the Greeley Mall for weeks. Her body
was found last week in a drainage ditch about a half-mile from her home.
The Weld County coroner ruled her death a homicide. Robert Laurencio
Montoya, 18, is in the Weld County Jail on $100,000 bail, facing charges
of sexual assault on a child and sexual assault on a child as a pattern
of abuse in connection with his reported relationship with Kayleah.
Montoya on Tuesday waived a hearing to reduce his $100,000 bail. He
is due back in court June 15.
Greeley police have not named Montoya as a suspect in her
disappearance or death but say he is a "person of interest."
Kayleah's mother, April Wilson, spoke briefly Tuesday and thanked
those who searched for her daughter. "It's just so sad that it took a
tragedy like this to let people know something I already knew — what an
amazing little girl she was."
Kayleah's brother, Mackenzie, said he took a lot of long walks with
his sister in attempt to iron out their problems. "She was the kindest
little sister."
Kayleah was entranced by Irelanda nd wanted to travel there with her mother,
Chambers said. She also wanted to be a veterinarian and wore a pink hat
decorated with a button that said: "No Place For Hate."
She also was a regular churchgoer, Chambers said, and attended
services the day she disappeared. No one can explain why she was taken
from her family and friends, he said, adding that her new journey is
just beginning.
"Kayleah is now living in the glory of God's love," he said.
After Chambers spoke, a montage of Kayleah's life was projected on a
huge screen that was bordered by flowers and pink, black and silver
balloons. Musical selections were from Celtic Thunder, Kayleah's
favorite group.
Greeley Police Chief Jerry Garner, who vowed last week that finding
Kayleah was a top priority in his department, attended the memorial, as
did parents and teachers from Brentwood Middle School, where Kayleah was
a sixth-grader.
The memorial was "beautiful and thoughtful," said Cheyenne Parmer,
14, who knew Kayleah at Brentwood. "I know she would have loved it too."
Another Brentwood student, 14-year-old Cassandra Mathias, said
Kayleah's death has made her more suspicious of Greeley.
"I always thought Greeley was a nice little town and people were
safe," Cassandra said. "Now it makes me think that whoever did this to
Kayleah might still be out there."

Robert Montoya in Weld Co. District Court.
(May 25, 2010)
GREELEY, Colo. - The man accused of having a sexual relationship with Kayleah Wilson, the 12-year-old
Greeley girl whose body was found in an irrigation ditch last week, appeared in court for the first time Tuesday.
Robert Laurencio Montoya, 18, waived a hearing to reduce his $100,000 bond. A judge set his next court date for June 15.
Montoya's public defender, Kevin Strobel, and a woman at Montoya's home declined to comment Tuesday.
Police say Montoya's arrest is "separate and distinct" from the murder case currently under investigation. They would not, however, exclude
Montoya as a possible 'person of interest' in Kayleah's death.
Kayleah Wilson disappeared March 28 after she left home in south Greeley to attend a birthday party.
This spawned an intense search involving more than 50 FBI agents, dozens of Greeley police and Weld County sheriff's deputies.
Police will not reveal the cause of Kayleah's death, saying it could compromise the investigation and eventual prosecution

Kayleah Wilson
Remembered In Tearful Service

GREELEY, Colo. (CBS4/AP) ―
A 12-year-old girl missing for seven weeks before she was found dead near her home was remembered as a girl who loved to laugh and dreamed ofbecoming a veterinarian and visiting Ireland.
Tuesday's memorialfor Kayleah Wilson drew about 400 mourners. The girl's mother, April Wilson, thanked neighbors and complete strangers
who came to Greeley to help search after Kayleah vanished March 28 on her way to a friend's birthday party.
Wilson's body was found last week in an irrigation ditch about a half-mile from her house. Homicide is suspected, but no one has been
charged, police said.
April Wilson fought tears and said Kayleah "will be missed and loved."
"She'ssafe," her mother said.
An 18-year-old man has been charged with having a sexual relationship with Kayleah from January until March 28, the day she disappeared,
according to court documents. Robert Laurencio Montoya appeared in courtin the morning and his attorney waived a bond reduction hearing. Montoya's next court date is June 15.
A woman who spoke through a door at an address listed for Montoya declined to comment, as did Montoya's public defender, Kevin
Strobel.
Montoya's case is "separate and distinct" from the homicide investigation, police said.
Kayleah was also remembered as a girl who enjoyed plants and flowers, jewelry making, drawing and making bath salts with her mother. She also enjoyed Celtic music and had a favorite band, Celtic Thunder, that inspired
her to someday visit Ireland. She also was slightly deaf and knew some sign language, including the symbol for love, which Kayleah would
sometimes flash at her mother, said Journey Christian Church Pastor Arron Chambers.
He also shared a poem that Kayleah wrote and framed for her mother in which she describes a little girl with no food. Kayleah wrote that when she asked God what he was going to do about it, the answer was "I made you."
"Kayleah believed thatGod made her to help people and to bring hope to their lives," Chambers said, adding that hope is what fueled the
community to spend hours, days and weeks searching for Kayleah.
"She was more than the cute girl you see on TV and the flyers on the street," he said.
Chambers also tried to reassure mourners that Kayleah's killer would be found. "The person who took her life will face justice. We're all hoping it happens soon," he said. But Chambers also pointed to a button that Kayleah wore on her favorite hat with the saying: "No place for hate."
Kayleah was a sixth-grader at Brentwood Middle School a few blocks from her home. Several of her schoolmates attended the service.
"When she came up to me at school she told me how excited she was that it was almost summer," said Cheyenne Parmer, 14.
Pink, silver and black balloons framed aprojection screen where mourners saw pictures of Kayleah at variousevents -- the beach, a
birthday party, a Christmas from some years ago, and also pictures that have become familiar in the past weeks -- her school picture that was used on a missing person flyer and another where she's wearing oven mitts.
Meanwhile, Greeley Police Sgt. Joe Tymkowych, who attended the service, said investigators were reviewing their missing person investigation and looking at a range of individuals who had the time and opportunity to killKayleah.
"It's scary how there's somebody still out there and how it happen to somebody else," said Cassandra Mathias, 14, another of Kayleah's
schoolmates.

In the arrest affidavit for the former boyfriend of a 12-year-old girl
whose body was found in a Greeley drainage ditch last week,
investigators indicate that the girl he is accused of sexually
assaulting told friends she may have been pregnant.
Kayleah Wilson's body was found last week after she went missing on
March 28 as she walked to a friend's birthday party. Police say her
death was not accidental. That same day, Greeley Police
arrested 18-year-old Robert Montoya on charges of sexual assault on a
child. In his arrest affidavit, he admits to having sex with an underage
girl. That girl told friends she was possibly pregnant. The
arrest affidavit makes it clear why he is charged with sexual assault.
In the affidavit, names are blacked out.The affidavit says
Montoya moved in with his girlfriend and her mother in October 2009.
Montoya and his sister had to move out of their home because Montoya's
mother wanted to begin a relationship with a registered sex offender,
Jonas Garcia, and Garcia was not allowed to be around children,
according to the affidavit. The mother of the alleged
victim told police she assumed Montoya and her daughter were good
friends at first, but that she began to see signs of a physical
relationship between the two of them in December.According
to court records, one of the dates of sexual contact between Montoya
and Kayleah was in December.Police say Montoya also
claimed that during sex, the alleged victim wanted him to physically
abuse her, but he did not.The mother of the alleged victim
told police she confronted Montoya and he admitted he and her daughter
had been having sex and they considered themselves boyfriend and
girlfriend, according to the affidavit. When the mother of
the alleged victim confronted Montoya, she told him to leave their
house. The affidavit says the alleged victim was very angry
initially, but then stopped talking about the relationship.According
to the affidavit, Montoya admitted he tried to see the alleged victim
without her mother knowing several times. The affidavit
says she caught them at an abandoned car dealership in February.Later,
the affidavit says he would even hide in the bushes outside her home
went to her school. When the alleged victim caught him
doing that, she called him a "stalker freak" and told him to leave her
alone, according to the affidavit.Montoya faces felony
charges including sexual assault for allegedly having sex with Kayleah.
He is in jail, being held on $10,000 bail.9NEWS spoke with

Re: KAYLEAH WILSON - 12 yo (2010) - Greeley CO
Kayleah Wilson called her 18-year-old ex-boyfriend a "stalker freak" and
told Robert L. Montoya to leave her alone a month before the
12-year-old vanished on her way to a birthday party, according to court
records. In new revelations about the girl's slaying: Kayleah
told friends "about possibly being pregnant" and Montoya told police
Kayleah often asked him to physically abuse her during sex, according
to a heavily redacted arrest affidavit for Montoya made public
Wednesday. Police have said they cannot confirm rumors about
the girl being pregnant.
Kayleah's mother, April Wilson, told police she allowed Montoya to move
into her Greeley home in October 2009 for about three months, affidavit
said. April Wilson said the teen's mother, Roxanne
Montoya, had asked her son and 16-year-old daughter to move out of the
Montoya home, so Roxanne Montoya could have a relationship with a man
who was a convicted sex offender prohibited from being around children,
the affidavit said.
Police declared Kayleah a homicide victim after her decomposed body was
found in a Greeley irrigation ditch a week ago -- nearly two months
after she disappeared March 28. Her body was discovered at 6
a.m. May 19. Just nine hours later, police arrested Montoya on
suspicion of sexually assaulting the girl. The ex-boyfriend
was formally charged Friday with sexual assault on a child and two
counts of sexual assault on a child as a pattern of abuse -- both
felonies. Police stressed that Montoya has not been arrested or charged
in connection with the girl's slaying. Authorities blacked out
the names of Kayleah and her mother in the affidavit, because state law
requires the removal of information that could identify a sexual
assault victim. But the report makes clear that Montoya is having sex
with a 12-year-old girl who went missing. April Wilson said
she initially assumed Kayleah and Montoya were merely "good friends."
But after the young couple admitted they were having a sexual
relationship in early January, the mother ordered Montoya to leave her
house and stop seeing her daughter, the affidavit said.
April Wilson said Kayleah was initially "very angry" when the mother
barred her from seeing Montoya, "but she eventually stopped talking
about her relationship with Robert Montoya and seemed to be moving past
him," the affidavit said. But the mother said she later
caught Kayleah with Montoya together at an abandoned car dealership in
February and again told him to stay way from her daughter, the affidavit
said. Robert Montoya admitted to police that he had a sex
with Kayleah on numerous occasions, despite knowing that she was 12
years old and he was an adult, the affidavit said. Montoya, who
is 6 feet tall, 190 pounds, said that Kayleah "would frequently try and
get him to physically abuse her during their sexual encounters," but
Montoya denied physically abusing the girl, the affidavit said.
Montoya said their relationship ended in mid-February, but he admitted
that he kept trying to see Kayleah and would sometimes hide in the
bushes outside her home and try to contact her at Brentwood Middle
School, the affidavit said. Police were called to the girl's
school Feb. 19 after Montoya was caught peeking in the windows, the
affidavit said. It was during one of the incidents that
Montoya tracked Kayleah to school that she called him a "stalker freak"
and told him to leave her alone, the affidavit said. Montoya
is being held in jail on a $100,000 bond.

His mother Roxanne Montoya is a pathetic disgusting person. What sort of mother would throw their kids out so their pedophile boyfriend could move in? What a disgrace to motherhood.

Re: KAYLEAH WILSON - 12 yo (2010) - Greeley CO
So true... however I know here in Ft. Collins, lots and lots of people in public housing have roommates and/or "visitors" that they shouldn't have in order to pay even less already cheap rent. I also know that Greeley is even worse than Ft. Collins. This whole thing is so sad. My DH works in Greeley and said he drove past where they found her body several times before she was found and saw nothing... believes she most definately was dislodged by the rain.oviedo45 wrote:I know - I could hardly believe that when I read it- but then I have to wonder, how could AW have them in her home ? Coroner: No Evidence Kayleah Was Pregnant

GREELEY, Colo. -- The Weld County Coroner's Office
confirmed to 7NEWS Thursday that 12-year-old Kayleah Wilson wasn't
pregnant when she was killed. "There was no evidence of
pregnancy," Weld County coroner Investigator Chris Robillard said. The
autopsy report won't be completed for several weeks, but the District
Attorney's Office might seal it to protect the ongoing homicide
investigator, Robillard said.
Kayleah's former boyfriend, Robert L. Montoya, has been arrested after
police said he admitted having sex with her, according to police. He is
a person of interest in her slaying, but has not been charged.According
to Montoya's arrest affidavit, Kayleah told friends "about possibly
being pregnant."Kayleah called Montoya a "stalker freak" and
Montoya to leave her alone a month before she vanished on her way to a
birthday party, according to court records. Kayleah's mother,
April Wilson, told police she allowed Montoya to move into her Greeley
home in October 2009 for about three months, affidavit said.
April Wilson said the teen's mother, Roxanne Montoya, had asked her
son and 16-year-old daughter to move out of the Montoya home, so Roxanne
Montoya could have a relationship with a man who was a convicted sex
offender prohibited from being around children, the affidavit said.

Montoya is being
held in jail on a $100,000 bond.

Re: KAYLEAH WILSON - 12 yo (2010) - Greeley CO
The ex-boyfriend of murdered 12-year-old girl Kayleah Wilson appeared in
court Tuesday to have his case continued to next month with a possible
bond reduction hearing.
Robert Montoya, 18, is facing a charge of
sexual assault on a child because he had a sexual relationship with
Kayleah, who was 12 years old.
Kayleah's body was found May 19 in
a irrigation ditch in West Greeley. She had been missing since March
28, when she left home to go to a birthday party.
Montoya, who admitted to the relationship with the girl, was once called a “stalker
freak” by Kayleah and was told to stay away from her.
Montoya once lived with the Wilson family after his mother asked him to leave
their home because of her relationship with a sex offender. It was
during his stay with the Wilsons that Montoya's relationship with
Kayleah began while he was living at their home.
Kayleah's mother, April Wilson said she kicked Montoya out of the house when she
learned of the relationship.
At Tuesday's hearing, Judge Marcelo
Kopcow continued the case to July 22, where they will discuss bond
reduction for Montoya. He is currently being held on $100,000 bond.
At the hearing Tuesday was Montoya's aunt Michelle Galloway, who said she
was there to show family support. After the hearing she said she doesn't
think he was responsible for Kayleah's death. “There could still be a
killer out there,” Galloway said.

Poster's Note: If Montoya isn't responsible I hope that investigators are looking long and hard at this guy. Read on...
A Greeley man who had hundreds of child porn images on his computer,
including the face of a missing girl from Maryland superimposed on child
porn photos, was sentenced to 12 years in prison Wednesday.
Anthony Long, 54, was sentenced in Weld District Court on a charge of sexual
exploitation of a child. Long pleaded guilty to the charge on June 11,
and the 12-year sentence was the maximum that could be imposed under the plea agreement.
Long has a record of sexual assault incidents against children from two other states.
In Greeley, the investigation of Long began in 2009 when local
Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agents were alerted to Long's
downloading of child pornography from the Internet. After ICE agents
contacted the Greeley police about the accusations against Long, police
used a search warrant to arrest him at his downtown Greeley apartment.
During the search, detectives seized items from Long's computer, thumb drives
and numerous CDs. According to police reports, investigators determined
that Long had at least 400 images of child pornography stored on
multiple media devices.
Deputy District Attorney' Tony Perea
argued that Long's criminal history, which dates back to 1975, should be
a significant factor in his sentencing. Following his 12-year prison
sentence, Long will serve five years on mandatory parole.
Long's first conviction was in 1984 in Alabama, where he was convicted
of sexual abuse against a victim less than 12 years old.
In 2001, he was convicted in Washington of luring with sexual motivation.
Greeley police affidavits state he photographed a 5-year-old girl after
luring her into his apartment. The affidavit stated he asked the girl's
mother if he could photograph the girl totally nude and put the pictures on the Internet.
Those out-of-state convictions required that Long register as a sex offender when he moved to Colorado.

Sex assault trial of Kayleah's ex-boyfriend delayed
The trial of the former boyfriend of a now dead 12-year-old has been rescheduled to March, giving attorneys time to pore through volumes of new evidence and witness statements that police filed.
Robert Montoya, 18, has been charged with sexual assault on a child and sexual assault on a child with a pattern of abuse, involving a relationship he had with Kayleah Wilson, the girl who disappeared March 28. Her body was found two months later in a Greeley irrigation ditch. Montoya has been listed as a person of interest in her murder, but he has not been charged. Attorneys have said previously he passed a lie detector test in regard to having anything to do with her death.
His trial, originally scheduled to begin Monday, was rescheduled for five days beginning March 21, 2011, based on the public defender's request for more time to review new information collected in the case. All involved will be back in court Jan. 13 for a motions hearing.

GREELEY, Colo. (AP) — A judge is considering what evidence will be
allowed at the trial of an 18-year-old accused of having a sexual
relationship with a missing Greeley girl later found dead.
Robert Montoya appeared in court Thursday for a hearing in preparation for his
trial in March. He is charged with sexual assault on a child, but
hasn’t been charged in Kayleah Wilson’s death.
Judge Marcelo Kopcow is considering whether to allow entries from Kayleah’s diary to
be admitted as evidence. Her mother testified Thursday that she became
angry after she said she found out that Kayleah and Montoya were
involved. Kopcow must also decide whether her statements to police about
the relationship can be admitted.
No suspects have been named in Kayleah’s death.
