Fullerton CA ---- An 18-year-old suspected of killing her newborn daughter
was under police guard and expected to be arrested when doctors approve,
Fullerton police said today.
The woman — whose name will not be released until she is arrested —
gave birth to the baby about 3 a.m., Sunday, in her home on the west
side of Fullerton, Sgt. Andrew Goodrich said. Police have her under
guard at a hospital, Goodrich said.



The woman told her parents she was ill so her parents took her to the
hospital, Goodrich said. The infant’s body was found hidden in the
woman’s bedroom, Goodrich said.
The baby suffered “severe external and internal trauma,” Goodrich
said, adding the girl’s mother delivered the child full-term. An autopsy
has been performed, but authorities have not released the cause of
death.
Police suspect the woman was trying to hide the pregnancy from her
parents, Goodrich said.

An 18-year-old Fullerton woman has been
arrested after she delivered a baby girl at home, stabbed the newborn
multiple times and left the infant's body in her bedroom closet, police

knife-like object" after investigators obtained a warrant
to search her parents' home in the 1100 block of West Williamson Avenue,
Goodrich said. The teen did not tell her parents she was
pregnant or that she had given birth. "The baby was full-term and
fully viable," Goodrich said.

FULLERTON -- A teenager was charged with murder Thursday on suspicion of stabbing her newborn daughter and hiding the corpse in her closet.

Yoselin Torres Tovar, 18, is charged with felony murder and child abuse with a sentencing enhancement for inflicting great bodily injury, according to the Orange County District Attorney's Office.

She will be arraigned Friday.

If convicted, she faces a maximum of 25 years in prison, prosecutors said.

Police say the teen gave birth around 3 a.m. Sunday in her home, and then told her parents she wasn't feeling well and needed to go to the hospital.

Hospital workers became suspicious when the teen showed signs of recently giving birth, but there was no baby.

Goodrich told KTLA, police found the newborn hidden in teen's bedroom closet.

Investigators determined the baby suffered multiple stab wounds to her torso, Goodrich said.

Investigators say the child was born full term.

The teenager is the second young Fullerton mother in the past two weeks to come under suspicion of killing her newborn baby.

Yanira Valderrama, 20, was arrested April 8 at her parents' apartment on suspicion of drowning her newborn baby boy and hiding his body in a trash can in September.

Authorities are reminding everyone about California's Safe Surrender law, which allows parents to drop off an unwanted newborn at any fire station or hospital within 72 hours of birth with no questions asked.

In a deal with prosecutors, Yoselin Torres Tovar, 20, plead to one
felony count of second-degree murder with a sentencing enhancement.




She was initially charged with felony murder and child abuse.

Under the plea deal she faces 16 years to life in state prison.

Yoselin Torres Tovar Gets 16 Years to Life for Murdering Her Newborn

Yoselin Torres Tovar, who two days into her murder trial last month pleaded guilty to repeatedly stabbing her newborn girl to death and hiding the corpse in the closet of her family's home, was sentenced Friday to 16 years to life in state prison.

That was the expected penalty after the 20-year-old copped to the slaying.

Then 18-year-old Tovar didn't want to have a baby, and no one in her family knew she was pregnant when, between 7 and 9 a.m. on April 18, 2010, she gave birth in the bathroom of her family's Fullerton home. Tovar went on to stab the baby girl multiple times, wrap up the body and place the bundle in her bedroom closet.

Family members saw blood on Tovar and took her to St. Jude Hospital in Fullerton, where doctors examined her and determined she had just given birth. Shortly after police were alerted, Tovar expelled the placenta at the hospital. That night, cops found the discarded newborn, and Tovar was arrested on suspicion of murder.

She pleaded guilty May 1 to one felony count of second degree murder with a sentencing enhancement allegation for the use of a deadly weapon.
