ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI - FOX2now.com) - The 4-year old girl that was abducted from her front yard in Louisiana has been found at a car wash in Fenton. She was foundaround 9:45 Tuesday night at the Fenton Car Wash on Gravois Road in Old Town Fenton. The people who found her first thought it was a little boy. Sources tell Fox 2 News that the girls hair had been cut and her clothes possibly changed. Police questioned the girl and discovered that she was in fact the person the amber alert issued for.
She was abducted Monday evening from her front yard as she was playing with her brother. Her mother and father were inside the home. Alisa was reunited with her parents not long after she was taken to the hospital. The family was then taken to Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in St. Louis for further evaluation. Police say it appears she is doing well. Hospital spokesman Bob Davidson says the doctor even got the little girl to laugh, which is a very good sign that she is doing well.
Police are now looking for the suspect and vehicle. It is a black or dark brown four door with two distinguishing features. It had no hubcaps on the driver's side and had a very loud muffler. The driver is a white male, possibly in his 30's. If you have any information, you are asked to call police. There are surveillance cameras in the area where she was found and detectives are hoping they can get a better look at what happened from those cameras.
In her hometown of Louisiana, Missouri, horns were honking as word began to spread that she was found.

Report from 8 PM, Central Time, Wednesday. No confirmation on death from LE.
A man police wanted to talk to regarding the kidnapping
of four year old Alisa Maier shot himself when officers came to his
door. The shooting happened about 4:30 Wednesday afternoon on Highway D
in Hawk Point, Missouri, west of O'Fallon. Police would not say the
man, was the primary suspect in the case. In fact, they say they're not
stopping their investigation despite the development. Police couldn't
confirm if the man was dead or alive.
"Everything is still on the table," Missouri Highway Patrol Sgt. Al
Nothum told reporters Wednesday evening. "We're not saying this is a
suspect. He's a person of interest."
Police do confirm a dark colored car matching the description of the
kidnapper's vehicle was located on the property.
The incident in Lincoln County took happened at a home listed as the
address for a man with a long criminal record.
Paul S. Smith, according to various state websites, has a record that
includes at least one attack on a child.
Smith is listed on the Missouri sex offender registry as having
sodomized a ten year old boy back in 1995 in Rolla.
Smith, who is now 38, is also recorded on the Missouri Department of
Corrections site as having served time on charges of tampering with a
motor vehicle and first degree receiving stolen property.
Smith has been listed at at least two St. Louis area addresses prior to
what happened Wednesday. The sex offender registry lists him on Weil
Avenue in St. Louis. That's in south city near Chippawa. Corrections
listed him as living on South Lindbergh at one point.
He apparently had relocated to the property in Lincoln County where the
incident happened.
Wednesday morning, St. Louis County Police detailed the on going
investigation into Alisa's abduction at the St. Louis County Justice
Center. Police and the FBI were still searching for the kidnapping
suspect that left Alisa late Tuesday night at a car wash in old town
Fenton.
Commanders say they're still following up on over one-hundred tips from
the public, since Alisa's abduction. Several witnesses spotted Alisa
last night wandering around the car wash with a possible suspect. The
suspect's car is described as a black or brown four door car, possibly a
Ford Escort, with no hubcaps on the driver's side. The car also had a
loud muffler, police caution that the suspect may have changed cars
and/or their appearance.
When St. Louis County Police arrived on the scene, an officer asked the
child if she was a boy or girl. The child answered a girl. At first
the officer thought Alisa might have been the child of a worker at a
near by Mexican restaurant. But when she gave her first name, he call
dispatch to confirm her identity as the child abducted from Louisiana.
Both Alisa and her parents are resting in St. Louis County. Crime
Stoppers is offering a reward of $2000 for information leading to the
arrest and conviction of the kidnapper.

Re: ALISA MAIER - 4 yo - Louisiana, MO (SW of Springfield, IL)
Report from three hours later, 11 PM
A girl missing from
Louisiana, Mo., for more than a day was found Tuesday night in a strip
mall parking lot in Fenton, police said. On Wednesday evening in Lincoln
County, the prime suspect in her abduction reportedly turned a gun on
himself as law enforcement officials prepared to questioned him near Hawk Point.
The shooting occurred at approximately 5 p.m. north of
Hawk Point on Hwy. D. Lincoln County law enforcement officials spent
the remainder of the evening securing the property awaiting detectives
from the Missouri State Highway Patrol and St. Louis County to come and
process the scene. The subject was taken away to an area hospital where
he was listed in critical condition. The suspect was reportedly a
convicted sex offender who had been released from jail two weeks ago on
drug charges. He rented the property.
As for the recovery of Maier, St. Louis County police said they received a call at 9:45 p.m.
for a boy wandering around in the parking lot of a strip mall near
Highway 141 and Gravois Road. The "boy" turned out to Alisha Maier,
police said. She had no visible injuries when a St. Louis County police
officer found her in back of a car wash.
Alisa was treated at St. Clare Health Center in Fenton, then taken to a St. Louis County police
precinct where she was reunited with her family. The family went to
Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center's emergency room at about
4:30 a.m. Wednesday for additional care. After she was checked over
thoroughly, the family left the hospital shortly before 7:30 a.m.
At least two witnesses told police they saw Alisa get out of a black or
dark-colored, four-door mid-sized vehicle with a very loud muffler, St.
Louis police chief Tim Fitch said. The car also was missing hubcaps on the driver's side.
The car was so loud that it could be missing a muffler or have a hole in its muffler.
The description of the car generally matches that of the vehicle seen Sunday evening in Louisiana.
Witnesses said the driver was a man possibly in his early 30s with darker skin, Fitch said.
The girl was tired but was talking with investigators.
Investigators were attempting to find out how the girl ended up there or if people in
the vicinity saw anything before the wandering child was reported to police.
Maier was taken from her yard on July 5.
Investigators said Alisa was with her brother, Blake, in their front yard in the 300
block of North Carolina Street. Blake told their mother and
investigators that a man in a black or dark-colored four-door sedan
drove up, took Alisa and drove away.
Louisiana Police Chief Rich Hughes said as many as 100 agents and police officers worked the case Tuesday.

Some in their community are referring to them as "heroes" and wanted to meet
the couple who found Alisa Maier alive and safe Tuesday night. Reporters found them at the JC Penney store in Fenton where the two
work.
Twenty-year-old Kevin McNeely and his girlfriend, 25-year-old Ashley
Gibbs, were at the Fenton car wash Tuesday evening when they noticed a
small child wandering the lot alone. They looked for a parent or any
adult. When they couldn't find one, McNeely and Gibbs contacted police.
The two stayed with Alisa, comforting her and keeping her safe, until
police arrived.
"Her eyes were wide awake but really heavy, really glazed over;
didn't want to make eye contact, (she) kept looking at the ground,"
McNeely said.
At first, they thought Alisa was a boy. The man who abducted her cut
her hair and changed her clothes.
"We thought she was a boy," Gibbs said. "Her haircut. The shirt. She
had a shirt on that had three guitars and boy tennis shoes."
McNeely and Gibbs do not see themselves as heroes. They're just happy
Maier was found safe and could be returned home.

Re: ALISA MAIER - 4 yo - Louisiana, MO (SW of Springfield, IL)
The prime suspect in the abduction of a
Louisiana, Mo., girl shot himself in the head when authorities
closed in Wednesday afternoon, a day after the little girl was
found alive in a St. Louis County strip mall parking lot.
Police converged on a rural residence in Hawk Point in Lincoln
County about 4:30 p.m. after receiving information that the man who
may have taken 4-year-old Alisa Maier lived there.
Police sources said the suspect was Paul S. Smith, a sex
offender who lived at the home on Highway D.
Smith was spray painting his car silver when police approached, a
police source said. He was still alive after shooting himself and
was being treated at an area hospital, police sources said.
Smith, 38, matches the general description of the abductor. His
dark-colored car - the one he was painting - matched the
description of the car involved in the abduction, police said.
Alisa was abducted from the front lawn of her Louisiana home
Monday evening, shortly after her mother called her to dinner. She
reappeared almost 26 hours later, wandering alone at a car wash in Fenton.
She was reunited with her parents, David Maier and Kimberly
Harrison, early Wednesday morning at the county police's Fenton
precinct. Officers and family then drove into St. Louis at 4:30
a.m. to Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center, where doctors examined her.
Alisa's grandfather Roy Harrison told reporters that Alisa and
her family were in a hotel in an undisclosed location and would not
go home for a while. He said Alisa was fine.
"No harm at all," Harrison said when asked whether she had been hurt.
Police in St. Louis County would not discuss the medical
examination of Alisa done Wednesday. Investigators said that when
she was taken to the hospital late Tuesday night she was tired and did not say much.
Smith, the suspect, was convicted in 1995 of sodomy of a
10-year-old and served about 11 years in prison. He is listed on
the Missouri sex offender registry as a non-compliant offender,
meaning he has not informed authorities of his current address.
Records confirm Smith as linked to the Highway D address. Other
records show addresses for him in St. Louis and in Rolla. Smith's
middle name is variously listed in records as Steven and Serling.
TIP POINTS TO SUSPECT
A police source said a tip from one of Smith's relatives had pointed authorities to the suspect.
Lincoln County Capt. Shayne Duryea said three sheriff's deputies
went to the property after the tip was passed along from Louisiana
police. They approached the man in his driveway.
He had a handgun and they ordered him to put the gun down,
Duryea said. He refused and shot himself in the head, Duryea said.
Smith received a suspended execution of sentence earlier this
year for tampering with a motor vehicle and receiving stolen
property in Lincoln County. He also served three days in jail two
weeks ago after a 2009 guilty plea for marijuana possession and
unlawful use of drug paraphernalia, according to court records.
Another person connected to the Highway D address, James B.
Oellermann, also is listed on the state's sex offender registry.
Oellermann, 54, was convicted of first-degree child molestation of
a 7-year-old girl in Troy, Mo. He was sentenced in 2004 to five
years in prison. Oellermann also has a prior conviction for
possession of child pornography.
Police have not said that Oellermann was involved in Alisa's abduction.
Two people at the Fenton Car Wash, on Gravois Road just east of
Missouri Highway 141, called police about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday to
report having seen a little boy abandoned by a man who drove off in
a dark-colored clunker. Officers soon learned that the child with a
new short haircut was Alisa, the object of a wrenching day of
searching and prayers in Louisiana.
‘HE'S MY HERO'
Before officers closed in on Smith, police said they were
looking for a dark-colored, mid-sized four-door sedan, with no
wheel covers on the driver's side and a blown or missing muffler.
The description of the car by callers in Fenton was similar to the
one given by Alisa's brother Blake, 5, the only person to witness the abduction.
"He's my hero," Roy Harrison, their grandfather, told reporters
who camped in front of the family home on North Carolina Street,
barely a block from the Louisiana city hall and police station.
"I'd do a back flip if I could, but I'm just too dadgum old. I had
faith we'd get her home. I won't lie to you and tell you that I
wasn't worried about the worst."
So were many residents of this river town of 3,900. Hundreds
spent Tuesday searching back roads and handing out fliers.
St. Louis County police chief Tim Fitch said county officer Sean
Becker arrived first at the car wash and asked the child, "Are you
a little boy or a little girl?" When she said she was a girl, Fitch
said, Becker asked for her name.
"Alisa," the girl said.
Fitch said Becker then radioed to verify the full name of the
missing girl in the northern Missouri Amber Alert. When he asked
for her last name, she gave it.
Cardinal Glennon spokesman Bob Davidson said the family was
exhausted but relieved.
"They're tired because they've been through a lot, but they're
also elated," said hospital spokesman Bob Davidson. "Alisa was
sitting on her mother's lap, and it looks like her mom will never
let her go. Ultimately, it's the greatest of days because a little
girl has been reunited with her family."
Davidson said David Maier asked him to thank the public for
their prayers, concerns and volunteer work in the Louisiana area.
‘A GREAT THING'
While the family stayed away from their home Wednesday,
residents dropped by North Carolina Street all day, leaving
flowers, a homemade sign welcoming her home, balloons and other gifts.
"It was a great thing to wake up to," flower-bearing Barbara
Deacon said of the good news. Another woman left a pink stuffed-toy
puppy bearing Alisa's name.
At the Mercantile Bank downtown, the electronic sign board had
flashed the Amber Alert of Alisa's disappearance all day Tuesday.
On Wednesday, its scrolling letters said, "Welcome Home Alisa!!!"
The Elks Lodge parking lot, which had been jammed Tuesday with
volunteers' vehicles, was empty Wednesday.
Jason Yoder, who works at a Shell station in town, said FBI
agents came by to retrieve the station's surveillance video shortly
after the investigation began. On Wednesday, he wondered whether
all the canvassing and leafleting had put pressure on the kidnapper.
"It was a really good thing she was found so quickly," Yoder said.
Similar sentiments were expressed Wednesday near the Fenton Car
Wash, where police tape marked off the scene. But the idea that the
case reached Fenton seemed disturbing to people who passed by.
"It about gives me the chills," said Bob Connelly, an onlooker.
"It's a miracle just to find her alive."

What a perfect ending We don't need scum like that among us. I hope that Alisa is young enough that she eventually will not remember her terrible ordeal and go on to have a happy life.

Alisa Maier gets big welcome home
LOUISIANA, Mo (KMOX) -- She's back in the arms of her family members. It was a big homecoming in Louisiana Missouri for a kidnapped four year old. High fives, fists in the air, and a big bear hug from grandpa for Alisa Maier.
All smiles, Alisa seemed to have no emotional strain from her ordeal.
Her six year old brother Blake was called a hero for quickly reporting that his sister had been kidnapped.
While the celebration continued in Louisiana Missouri there was no letting-up on the investigation.
Even though kidnap suspect Paul Smith is dead dozens of members of the Major Case Squad are looking into whether Smith may have abducted other children or even killed the owner of Smitty's Garage in Hawk Point.
So far police have no connection but say they have hundreds of leads.
They are also looking for a possible connection in the case of Bianca Piper, a 13-year-old girl who went missing from her home near Foley, Mo., in 2005.

'Show me where Mom and Dad are': Officer recalls finding missing girl
St. Louis County Police officer Sean Becker first thought the child wandering around the car wash in Fenton was from the neighborhood.
But aware that a girl named Alisa Maier had disappeared in Louisiana, Mo., some 70 miles away, the officer asked, "Is your last name Maier?" She nodded yes.
It was Becker who responded about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday to a report of a small child, believed to be a 6- to 8-year-old boy, wandering alone at the car wash.
Becker found a child younger than that, wearing a T-shirt that read "Missouri Rocks," boys gym shorts and new gym shoes.
"Show me where you came from," the officer said. The child did not respond. "Show me where Mom and Dad are."
Finally, the child pointed to a street and said, "Brown car."
Becker took the child to his patrol car and she seemed hesitant, nervous, scared. Eventually, she felt more at ease and began to talk.
"Are you a little boy or a little girl?" he asked.
"A little girl?"
She confirmed she was a girl. The officer drove to a street thinking the girl lived in the neighborhood, then pulled over to see if she could walk in the direction of her home.
She walked a short ways, then stared blankly at Becker.
"Do you know where you're at?" he asked.
She nodded no.
That's when it occurred to him that it could be Alisa, kidnapped a little more than 24 hours earlier from her front yard. A convicted sex offender, Paul Smith of Hawk Point, Mo., fatally shot himself on Wednesday as police approached him. Police believe he was the kidnapper.
Becker contacted a dispatcher and asked for the Louisiana girl's name.
"Is your last name Maier?" he asked her.
She nodded yes.
Becker checked her for injuries, found none, then took her to St. Clare Health Center. Nurses gave Alisa a blanket! and a drink. Someone at the car wash had given her a stuffed animal, and she continued to clutch it.
Becker used his cell phone to take pictures and sent the images to the FBI command post in Louisiana. FBI agents showed the pictures to Alisa's parents, who confirmed it was her, though her hair had been cut, apparently by Smith in an effort to conceal her identity.
"It was an emotional experience," Becker told the Post-Dispatch in an interview published Friday. "To be that lucky was amazing. I'm happy she's back with her family."

Re: ALISA MAIER - 4 yo - Louisiana, MO (SW of Springfield, IL)
Detectives with the Major Case Squad said this afternoon that
child abductor Paul S. Smith is connected to Saturday's murder of a
Hawk Point garage owner.
Preliminary ballistics tests showed a match between a gun Smith
had and the bullets that killed businessman Jeffery "Smitty" Smith.
Detectives said the gun used in the homicide was not the same
weapon Paul Smith used to kill himself on Wednesday. The caliber of
the murder weapon was not released.
Lincoln County Prosecutor John Richards said the gun was stolen
in a burglary in Pike County last month. He said his office has no
information that would lead to charges against anyone else for the
murder or the burglaries.
From an earlier story:
HAWK POINT, Mo. -- Detectives discovered
ammunition under the Lincoln County cabin home of child abductor
Paul S. Smith that they believe is the same make and model of the
ammunition used in a shooting death in the area Saturday night, a
source close to the investigation said Friday.
Police have not conclusively linked Smith to the death of garage
owner Jeffery Smith, but they are performing ballistics tests today
on a weapon found with the ammunition, according to the source.
Paul Smith, 38, a convicted sex offender, kidnapped Alisa Maier,
4, from her Lousiana, Mo., home Monday night. He released her 26
hours later at a car wash in Fenton, then fatally shot himself
about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday as detectives closed in on him at his
home in Hawk Point, in Lincoln County.
Jeffery Smith, 49, was found unconscious outside his Smitty's
Garage on Highway A at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday. He died of a
single gunshot wound to the head a short time later, police said.
They recovered a silver mid-70s Corvette that was taken from the
garage and analyzed it for clues. He is not related to Paul Smith.
In November 2009, Paul Smith robbed El Rancho Garage, another
auto shop in Hawk Point, and took a cash register, a $4,000
diagnostic tool and a 2005 Chevrolet Impala.
He pleaded guilty to charges of tampering and receiving stolen
property in that case in February. Smith was sentenced to five
years in prison, but the execution of the sentence was suspended,
and he served 120 days of shock time instead.
He also faced forgery charges connected to a home break-in in
Bowling Green, Mo. That break-in also occured in November 2009.
Richard Fowler, the owner of the home, contacted police after $40,
two air guns, two blank checks and credit cards were stolen from
his home. Smith, an old friend of Fowler's son, had visited the
Fowler home prior to the break-in, Fowler said. The forgery charges
were still pending at the time of Paul Smith's suicide.
Ever since Paul Smith was linked to Alisa's abduction, and his
past criminal record became known, residents in Hawk Point have
questioned whether he was linked to the death of Jeffery Smith and
a string of recent burglaries in the area.
Detectives with the Major Case Squad on Thursday afternoon
searched the cabin and surrounding wooded area where Smith had been
living at 309 Highway D in Hawk Point, the source said.
The pistol and more than 30 rounds of ammunition were found
along with a pair of gloves zipped up in a black vinyl case under
the cabin's porch, the source said.
Other items were also recovered, including power tools, car
batteries and a cash drawer, the source said.
Asked about the investigation, Deputy Cmdr. Mark Schimweg of the
Major Case Squad said detectives were continuing to follow up
leads, adding, “Hopefully, we'll have something later today,” he said.
Paul Smith was living in a cabin on five acres of heavily wooded
land owned by James B Oellermann Jr., according to the Lincoln
County Assessor's Office. The 35 acres next to the property is
owned by William Oellermann of Mansfield, Texas, who said he is the
estranged step-brother of James Oellermann.
He said the land was left in his mother's estate, and that the
five acres were deeded to his step-brother when he got out of
prison for a sex offense.
James Oellermann, 54, was convicted of first-degree child
molestation of a 7-year-old girl in Troy, Mo. He was sentenced in
2004 to five years in prison. The Missouri Sex Offenders Registry
currently lists Oellermann as homeless in the city of St. Louis.
Oellerman said he had not spoken to his step-brother and did not
know what if any relationship James had with Smith.
"I don't know a thing about it, nor do I wish to," he said.
According to information from the Missouri Department of
Corrections, though, Oellermann and Smith were housed at two of the
same institutions, and their time there overlaps.
Both men were at the Farmington Correctional Center from Feb. 1,
2005 to May 4, 2006; they served time together at the Northeast
Correctional Center in Bowling Green from Dec. 18. 2008 until May 9, 2009.
Jacqueline Lapine, spokesperson for the Department of
Corrections said the men were never roommates and sex offenders are
not housed together in a special unit at Farmington or NECC as at
some other institutions.
“It's possible that they knew each other, but no one but them, I
guess, would know that,” she said.
At Smitty's Garage, less than two miles from the Highway D
property, the front door remained boarded up from Saturday's break-in.
Funeral services were held for Jeffery Smith at 11 a.m. Friday in Hawk Point.

Re: ALISA MAIER - 4 yo - Louisiana, MO (SW of Springfield, IL)
Family and friends of Alisa Maier planned to
gather for a potluck Saturday after a week in which their lives were
turned upside down.
The menu probably will include the four-year-old girl’s favorites –
chicken nuggets and raw hot dogs.
She’ll also probably take a spin on her beloved bicycle.
And, by design, everyone will act as if the events of the past few
days were more like a bad dream than chilling reality.
Alisa was kidnapped from the front yard of her home at Fourth and
North Carolina at 8 p.m. Monday. She was found unharmed a little more
than 25 hours later at a car wash in Fenton.
The story drew national attention, and brought an outpouring of
volunteers, prayers and offers of help unlike anything seen in the
region since summer flooding two years ago.
The man authorities named as the lone suspect in the abduction,
38-year-old registered sex offender Paul S. Smith of Hawk Point, shot
himself in the head with a handgun at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday as deputies
arrived to question him. He died six hours later.
Alisa’s parents, David Maier and Kimberly Harrison, discussed plans
for the reunion Friday morning while sitting on the front porch of their
home as Alisa slept inside.
“We’re just going to act like this never happened and get it out of
her mind,” Maier said. “We’re trying to keep some kind of normalcy.”
Alisa still hadn’t talked about the incident and authorities had not
disclosed details of her time with Smith. The girl’s hair was cut, but
family members have said she was not physically or sexually abused.
“We’re not going to press her,” Maier said. “If anything did happen,
it’ll come out.”
Authorities have praised Alisa’s six-year-old brother, Blake, for
providing suspect and vehicle descriptions. A national Amber Alert was
issued shortly after the abduction. The family was amazed by the
response.
“Everybody just pulled together anyway they could,” Maier said. “We
thank everybody.”
Maier called the case a “wake up call” for parents in small
communities such as Louisiana, which has about 4,000 residents.
“Before this happened, I saw kids out riding their bikes by
themselves,” he said. “Now, I think more kids will be out in groups or
with parents. The hardest thing to do will be to keep an eye on the kids
now.”
The couple is thankful that Alisa and Blake won’t have to go through
a trial for Smith.
On Thursday, Maier had indicated he thought Smith was cowardly for
committing suicide. On Friday, he would only say that the suspect would
“not be a burden on taxpayers.”
Included in the family’s effort to re-establish a routine will be a
return to work for Alisa’s father, who remodels houses. He said his
employer has been gracious and understanding about the situation.
Alisa’s mother is a homemaker.
The couple also has a one-year-old, Sierra, and enjoys strong
support from other family members.
“We’re all real close,” Maier said.

Re: ALISA MAIER - 4 yo - Louisiana, MO (SW of Springfield, IL)
The father of a 4-year-old girl who was grabbed from her front
yard last week and found 26 hours later says doctors did not find any
physical evidence of an assault.
David Maier, who has not spoken
publicly about Alisa Maier's abduction, reports
that his daughter has been well and happy since her return home. No
nightmares. No tears. He said she has not talked about what happened
during her abduction and that he and Alisa'a mother, Kim Harrison, would
not be pressing Alisa for details.
"They told us she didn't say
anything about being molested or anything like that," Maier said.
Maier
said he has a lot of unanswered questions but that he and Harrison
would wait until Alisa talked about it. If she decides to confide in
anyone, it would be her 6-year-old brother, Blake, he said.
"There's
a lot we'll probably never know," Maier said, as he glanced at his
children during a water gun fight at the family's house Saturday. "Maybe
it's better that I don't."
Maier also said
that he thinks the kidnapper cased the neighborhood and even knew a
blind spot on the property that can't be seen from the kitchen window.
"He had to know that," Maier said. "That's
the only place I can't see my kids when they're outside playing."
The
man who authorities said abducted Alisa, Paul S. Smith, fatally shot
himself Wednesday when confronted by police.
Maier said his Blake
burst into the house Monday evening and said his sister had gotten in a
car with a stranger.
"Blake said he told her, 'Come here,' and
then grabbed her and took off," Maier said. Maier began frantically
searching for Alisa in his car.
"We didn't sleep," he said.
By
the next day, hundreds of people were searching for Alisa.
Then,
just before midnight Tuesday, a police officer showed Maier and
Harrison a picture of Alisa, smiling with her hands behind her head,
relaxing in a hospital bed at St. Clare Medical Center. She had been
found wandering near a car wash in Fenton.
The officer wanted to
know if he was sure the child in the photo was Alisa.
"Her hair
has been cut, but no one has that face," Maier told him.
Within
minutes, Maier and Harrison were headed to St. Louis. When they arrived
at St. Louis County's Fenton police precinct, child psychologists were
interviewing Alisa. Maier and Harrison waited in another room for an
hour before a police officer led their daughter through the door.
The
couple wept over the child as she hugged them. She looked at them and
asked, "Where's Blake?"
They then took her to a children's
hospital about 4 a.m. Wednesday for further evaluation. The couple spent
Wednesday night at a hotel in the St. Louis area so counselors could to
talk to Alisa.
Alisa and Blake were reunited Thursday.
