A 23-year-old Acton woman today pleaded not
guilty to charges that she beat her 13-month-old son to death inside her
Great Road home in May.

Christina Hancock was arrested and quickly arraigned in Concord
District Court today, according to a statement released this afternoon
by the office of Middlesex District Attorney Gerard T. Leone Jr. She
pleaded not guilty and was ordered held without bail.

In the statement, prosecutors said Hancock dialed 911 around 4:30
a.m. on May 12 and reported that her son, Kadyn Hancock, had fallen out
of the crib and hit his head. The child was taken from Hancock's home on
Great Road and rushed to Emerson Hospital in Concord where the child
was pronounced dead at 5:17 a.m.

The boy's death has since been under investigation by Acton and State
police, the statement said. Police learned that the night before he was
killed, Kaydn was home with his mother and two-year-old sister.

"He appeared to be happy, healthy and playful. That night he had fed
himself Cheerios and drank a bottle before going to sleep at 8 p.m.,''
the statement said.An autopsy found the child suffered
"multiple contusions, lacerations, internal bleeding and hemorrhages on
the top of his head.'' The medical examiner concluded the child's
injuries could not have been caused by a fall out of the crib, but could
only have been caused by blunt force trauma.

“This defendant is alleged to have beaten her own child with such
severity that the violent nature and broad scope of his injuries were
fatal,” Leone said in the statement.

Hancock is due back in court Aug. 17.

Christina Hancock, 23, of 187 Great Road Acton was arrested and arraigned Aug. 10
for the murder of her 13-month-old son in May. She is being held without bail.
Hancock called 911 at 4:29 a.m. May 12 to report that her child, Kaydn
Hancock, had fallen out of his crib and hit his head, according to a statement
from the District Attorney’s office. He was transported to
Emerson Hospital and pronounced dead at 5:17 a.m.
During an autopsy, state medical examiners found that the extent of the
injuries were not consistent with the claim. The injuries were
traumatic and included multiple contusions, lacerations, internal
bleeding and hemorrhages on top of the baby’s head. The medical examiner
ruled death was a homicide caused by blunt force trauma.
“This defendant is alleged to have beaten her own child with such
severity that the violent nature and broad scope of his injuries were
fatal,” District Attorney Gerry Leone said in the press release. “I
commend the Massachusetts State Police assigned to our office and the
Acton Police for their diligent work in investigating the circumstances
of little Kaydn’s death, and arresting the defendant.”
An investigation by Acton and Massachusetts state police determined
that the night before the child’s death he was home with his mother and
2-year-old sister. The investigation found he was happy and playful and
had eaten Cheerios and had a bottle of milk before going to sleep at 8 p.m. May 11.
The investigation also found that Hancock had previously delayed
the child’s treatment by several days for a fractured arm.
Hancock’s next court date is Aug. 17 for a bail hearing at Concord District Court.

Christina Hancock, a 23-year-old Acton woman, was jailed and has pleaded
not guilty to accusations that she beat her 13-month-old son to death, calling him "fat and lazy.".

According to the District Attorney's Office, Hancock allegedly called 911 in May
to report that her baby, Kaydn Hancock, had fallen out of his crib, hit his head, and wasn't responding very well.

Authorities say that the baby was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead just 48 minutes after Hancock called for assistance.

Hancock allegedly told officers that Kaydn was happy, healthy, ate Cheerios,
and drank a bottle of milk before she put him to bed the evening before, investigators say.

According to the State Medical Examiner, an autopsy showed multiple contusions,
lacerations, internal bleeding, hemorrhages on top of the baby’s head,
bruises on his back, stomach, lung, colon, liver and thigh, abdominal bleeding and a cut lip
.

Investigators say Kaydn also had a fractured arm and that Hancock allegedly delayed treatment
for several days. The child was reportedly unable to crawl because of
the prolonged delay of medical care for the baby's arm.

Hancock allegedly described her baby as "fat and lazy", according to police.
Hancock also has a 2 year old daughter, another son which she gave up
for adoption at 9 months, and is pregnant with a fourth child, police say.

She is being held in the Middlesex County Jail with out bail, pending outcome of her trial.

Acton, Mass. —

The trial of an Acton woman charged with murdering her 13-month-old son is expected to begin in October 2012, with jury selection likely to start Oct. 1, according to prosecutors.

Middlesex District Attorney Gerald Leone charged Christina Hancock, 25, of Acton, with first-degree murder in the death of her son, Kaydn, at the family’s home on Great Road.

The trial is set to take place at Middlesex Superior Court in Woburn.

Prosecutor said state and local police investigated the child’s death the night of May 11-12, 2010 and deemed it suspicious. A medical examiner’s autopsy showed traumatic injuries reported to be consistent with beating.

The injuries included multiple contusions, lacerations, internal bleeding and hemorrhages on top of the baby’s head. The medical examiner ruled the death was a homicide caused by blunt force trauma, investigators said.

Hancock, who was home alone with her son and 2-year-old daughter, said Kaydn was injured falling out of a crib, investigators said.

Hancock was indicted by a grand jury Aug. 10, 2010 and remains held without bail; her attorney, Stanley Norkunas, could not be reached for comment.

Acton woman pleads guilty in death of her child, after calling it an accident for three years

By Brian Ballou | GLOBE STAFF FEBRUARY 28, 2013

WOBURN — After insisting for almost three years that her 13-month-old son died of an accident, Christina Hancock pleaded guilty Thursday to involuntary manslaughter, bringing an end to the case and allowing Hancock to avoid prosecution on a charge of first-degree murder.

Hancock was sentenced to eight to 10 years in prison by Middlesex Superior Court Judge Maureen Hogan, agreeing to the sentence recommended by prosecutors.

“This is a sad and tragic crime, a 13-month-old innocent, defenseless boy, Kadyn Hancock, was killed by his own mother,” Hogan said, moments before delivering her sentence.

Under an agreement with Middlesex District Attorney Gerard T. Leone Jr., Hancock pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years behind bars. She was originally charged with first-degree murder, which carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment without possibility of parole.
