TOMMY DAVIS III - 5 yo -(2010) Zion (N of Waukegan) IL
A 35-year-old Zion woman who told police she "snapped" faces two counts of murder in the Labor Day death of a 5-year-old boy, Zion police announced late Sunday. Over the course of two days she "hit him with a belt and banged his head off the bath tub and floor," Police Chief Wayne Brooks said.
Jones
Brooks described Yolanda L. Jones as the boy's caregiver, who was going into labor and delivered her sixth child shortly after taking the boy to Midwest Regional Medical Center. Jones baby was born that day at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan. Brooks said the boy had died "many hours prior to arriving at the hospital" and had "extensive visible bruising, from the top of his head to his knees. He had recent bleeding from his nose, ears and head area." Jones told hospital staff that the boy fell on a parking block while running in the parking lot at Sheridan Motel, 3412 Sheridan Road, Brooks said. The Lake County Coroner's Office conducted an autopsy on Wednesday and determined that the child suffered severe, non-accidental blunt-force trauma to the head and brain, Brooks said. Prior to the arrest, detectives interviewed and re-interviewed Jones' older children. "The children's initial accounts of the incident appeared to be rehearsed," Brooks said.Detectives also viewed several days of surveillance video from the entrance and parking lot of the motel. "Many hours before the juvenile was brought to the hospital, Yolanda Jones could be seen on video holding the limp body of the deceased male juvenile. The investigation was delayed because detectives could not interview Yolanda until Friday, due to her medical condition after delivery of her baby and not being released from Vista East Medical Center until then," Brooks said. Jones admitted to detective Sabas Mercado, that she "snapped" and had beaten the child over the course of two days, Brooks said. "She told Mercado that amongst other things he 'wet the bed.'"Jones, who gave her address as room 7 at the local motel, remained in the Lake County Jail Sunday night in lieu of $3 million bond. Her prior address was 1301 Buck Ave., Waukegan. The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services had a previous case involving Jones and has taken all six of her children into custody, Brooks said.

Re: TOMMY DAVIS III - 5 yo -(2010) Zion (N of Waukegan) IL
September 13, 2010 (ZION, Ill.) (WLS) -- A north suburban woman is charged with the murder of a 5-year-old boy who was in her care. Thirty-five-year-old Yolanda Jones, of Zion, faces two counts of first-degree murder in the beating death of Tommy Davis III, of Park Forest. Police in Zion say Jones was pregnant and in labor last Monday when she brought the 5-year-old to a hospital in Zion. He was pronounced dead when they arrived at the hospital. Jones gave birth to her own sixth child later the same day. The Lake County coroner determined Tommy Davis died of blunt force trauma to the head. Zion Police say Jones later admitted to beating the child over a two-day period because he had wet the bed. Jones is being held on $3 million bond.

Tommy Davis case: Brutal beating death over 2 day span
Posted on September 13th, 2010 by Valhall
Tommy Davis, III was five years old on Labor Day when authorities believe he finally succumbed to a two day beating that his “caregiver” (aka murderer), Yolanda Jones, finally confessed included beatings with a belt and banging his head against the bathtub and floor. When Tommy’s lifeless body was brought to Midwest Regional Medical Center in Zion, Illinois, he had been dead for several hours and exhibited bleeding from his nose, ears and head. He had “extensive” bruising from the top of his head down to his knees.
Yolanda originally stated the boy had hit his head on a concrete parking curb at the Sheridan Motel where she and her five kids, along with Tommy Davis whose real parents have not been named, were living. Authorities reviewed surveillance video of the motel’s parking lot and apparently found no indication of Tommy falling, only scenes of Yolanda carrying his limp, most likely already dead body. When authorities questioned the older children of Yolanda they state the initial accounts made by the children were apparently rehearsed. Eventually Jones broke down and stated that Tommy had wet the bed and she had “snapped” leading to the two-day beating and subsequent murder of Tommy Davis by what the autopsy shows to be blunt force trauma to the head that is “non-accidental”.
Tommy’s dead body was left at Midwest Regional with no one there who loved him, cared for him….or even murdered him. That’s because medical personnel had to take murdering-brood-mother-baby-factory-of-a-walking-womb, Yolanda Jones, on to Vista Medical Center-East in Waukegan, where she gave birth to her sixth child. It appears beating the hell out of a five-year-old can put you into labor. The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services states they have had a previous case involving Yolanda Jones, so they took all six of her children into custody.
Meanwhile it has not been reported that anyone stepped up to claim little Tommy Davis as their own.

$3 million bail for woman accused of killing boy, 5
September 13, 2010 2:18 PM
A Zion woman accused of fatally beating a 5-year-old was dating the boy's father and was caring for the child, police said today.
Yolanda Jones, 35, is being held on $3 million bond after being charged with first-degree murder in the Sept. 6 death of Tommy Davis III.
Police said Jones brought the boy's lifeless body to a Zion hospital on Sept. 6 just as she was going into labor to deliver her sixth child.
Authorities said Jones admitting to having "snapped" and beaten the child over the course of two days prior to his death. Police said the boy appeared to have been abused prior to the trauma that led to his death.
Zion Police Chief Wayne Brooks said even seasoned officers were shaken by the case.
"It was brutal. He suffered severely," Brooks said.
Authorities said Jones had been living in a single motel room with her five daughters, the oldest of whom is 13, and was also caring for Tommy, the son of Tommy Davis Jr., of south suburban Park Forest. She has since given birth to another daughter, her third child with Davis, police said.
Police said the other children all received medical exams and did not show signs of abuse. The Department of Children and Family Services has placed the six children, including the newborn, in the care of others, authorities said.
Davis is not expected to be charged in the case, police said. The boy's biological mother lives out of state.
