A Georgia couple faces murder charges in the death of their 2-year-old, who weighed just 12 pounds, 6 ounces at his death.Sade Shamon King, 23, and William Thomas Davis III, 25, are also charged with cruelty to children in the death of D’Shawn Davis, Houston County Sheriff Cullen Talton announced at a news conference Tuesday.Davis called 911 Saturday and reported that the child was not breathing, according to the report. Emergency responders found the child's body on the floor of his mother's bedroom, investigators told the paper. The Houston coroner said the child was “not much more than a skeleton.”King and Davis are being held in the Houston County jail without bond.

A Warner Robins couple faces murder and cruelty-to-children charges after medical crews found their 2-year-old son starved to death inside their home.23-year-old Sade Shamon King and 25-year-old William Thomas Davis III are in the Houston County Jail without bond.Investigators and neighbors say there are many unanswered questions about why D'Shawn Davis was isolated and neglected for nearly a year inside his Tiffany Place home.JoAnn Smith, a neighbor, says she was shocked when the couple who lived next door were arrested Tuesday and accused of starving their son."Believe it or not. There's food in the back for the animals," she says, pointing to two healthy-looking pit bulls in the couple's backyard."The lady that lived here was very quiet, was very private," Smith says. "Her fiance did a lot of the talking. Seemed like a very nice man."Smith says she hadn't seen the infant since the couple moved in nearly two years ago.Police say they discovered the dead child when King called 911 Saturday and said her son wasn't breathing.Medics say they found the boy dead on her bedroom floor, clearly malnourished. He weighed 12 pounds, 6 six ounces.Following a news conference Tuesday, investigators showed graphic pictures of the emaciated child, but asked media not to use them. They say the child hadn't received any medical attention in the past ten months."It turned my stomach--some of the pictures I saw of how the child was treated," said Sheriff Cullen Talton, during the news conference. The pictures show the boy's skin was raw in some parts--from laying in his own filth, according to investigators. The Sheriff's Office says King was unemployed, a stay-at-home mom. It says Davis told them he worked long hours and didn't know the child's condition. The couple's 5-year-old daughter also lived in the home but seemed in good health, it says. The girl is living with a grandmother now.Capt. Jerry Stewart, with the juvenile division of the Sheriff's Office, called it "the most egregious case of neglect" he's seen in 37 years on the job.Investigators say they don't think drug use played a role and wouldn't comment on the parents' mental condition. They say it could be weeks before the case is wrapped up.But they and Smith are both looking for answers."They can feed their dogs, but they can't feed a child," Smith says incredulously.

The attorney of a father charged with the starvation death of his 2-year-old son is exploring the possibility that the boy suffered from a medical condition that led to his malnourished state.Houston County Public Defender Nick White said Thursday he has received “third party” accounts that William Thomas Davis III and mother Sade Shamon King were feeding the child, yet he failed to thrive. Friends and family said the couple was seeking medical attention for the child, White said.
Davis, 25, and King, 23, were charged Sept. 13 with felony murder and cruelty to children in the death of D’Shawn Davis. Medics found the child on the floor of the bedroom of the couple’s Warner Robins home after receiving a 911 phone call from King, who reported her son was not breathing.D’Shawn Davis weighed 12 pounds 6 ounces at his death.White said he is awaiting the receipt of several reports before William Davis has his bond hearing.“It breaks your heart. This is a horrible thing. This is the kind of case that makes people outraged,” White said. “My position right now is we just really need to wait until we get facts on the case.“It’s appropriate to be angry and outraged and be looking for answers and want justice, but we need to find out the facts ... the reason why the child was so malnutrition-ed.”Some of the reports White is waiting to receive are a copy of the autopsy report, as well as the child’s medical records.White said the felony in the felony murder charge stems from the cruelty to children count. The state is alleging cruelty to children because prosecutors say the parents were not feeding the child and did not seek medical treatment, White said. Investigators said the boy received no medical care for 10 months prior to his death, a fact White said he is looking into.If the parents did seek treatment and tried to feed the child, that would be contrary to the state’s charge, White said.King’s attorney, David Daniell, a private attorney in Warner Robins, did not return a phone message for comment. King is not being represented by the public defender’s office because of the potential for a conflict of interest, White said. There could be an appearance of impropriety if his office represented both clients at the same time, he said.Houston County District Attorney Rabb Wilkerson did not return a phone call for comment.

A Houston County grand jury Tuesday indicted a Warner Robins couple accused of the starvation death of their 2-year-old son on charges of malice murder, felony murder, two counts of cruelty to children and two counts of aggravated battery, a prosecutor said.Houston County District Attorney Rabb Wilkerson said the grand jury also found that there are aggravating circumstances in the Sept. 11 death of D’Shawn Davis to warrant seeking the death penalty against the parents, but that decision will not be made until after the Nov. 2 election. The parents, Sade Shamon King, 23, and William Thomas Davis III, 25, were being held Tuesday in the Houston County jail without bond. The cruelty to children charges are based on allegations that the parents failed to provide food and to seek medical care for the child, Wilkerson said. The two counts of aggravated battery are based on the parents failure to provide food and medical care for the child and for the sores and abscesses on the child in the rectum area, Wilkerson said. The boy weighed 12 pounds, 6 ounces at his death, sheriff’s investigators said. His rectum showed signs of having been left in his own urine and feces, according to Houston County sheriff’s Sgt. Darin Meadows, an investigator assigned to juvenile crimes. The autopsy ruled the cause of death as malnutrition, according to Houston County Coroner Danny Galpin. The attorney for the child’s father is exploring the possibility that the boy suffered from a medical condition that led to his malnourished state.Houston County Public Defender Nick White previously told The Telegraph that he had received “third party” accounts that Davis and King were feeding the child, yet he failed to thrive. Friends and family said the couple was seeking medical attention for the child, White said.Wilkerson said the groundwork has been laid for the death penalty to be sought in the case but out of respect for the election process and for the consistency of the case, that decision will not be made until after the election, he said.Wilkerson, who was appointed district attorney by Gov. Sonny Perdue to fill a vacancy in the post until the election after Kelly Burke stepped down mid-term, is among three candidates running for the post. The other candidates are Arthur Creque, chief assistant solicitor for State Court in Houston County, and George Hartwig, senior assistant district attorney for Houston County. An arraignment date has not yet been set for King and Davis, with the decision on whether to seek the death penalty likely to be made at or near that time, Wilkerson also said.Should the death penalty be sought, Davis’ representation would be transferred to the Office of the Georgia Capital Defender, which provides representation of indigent defendants in death penalty cases, White said Tuesday.Should the death penalty not be sought, White said he will continue as Davis’ attorney. White said he expects the autopsy report may shed additional information on a possible medical condition. Once he receives the report, White said he expects he may seek a bond hearing for Davis, and if the bond is denied, White said he may file a motion for a speedy trial.David G. Daniell, a Warner Robins attorney representing King, declined to comment through his paralegal Tuesday.

Father accused in child’s starvation death pleads not guilty
PERRY -- A Warner Robins father accused in the starvation death of his 2-year-old son pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the arraignment for the mother, who is also accused in the death, was continued for at least a month.
The parents, Sade Shamon King and William Thomas Davis III, are awaiting trial on charges of malice murder, felony murder, two counts of cruelty to children and two counts of aggravated battery.
The emaciated body of D’Shawn Davis was found Sept. 11, 2010, on the floor of the bedroom of the couple’s home at 104 Tiffany Place.
Houston Healthcare emergency medical workers responded to a 911 call from his mother, who had reported the child was not breathing, authorities said.
The toddler weighed 12 pounds, 6 ounces at his death.
Davis’ arraignment before Superior Court Judge Edward D. Lukemire lasted only a few minutes.
Houston County Public Defender Nick White, who is representing Davis, said afterward that the defense believes the boy possibly suffered from a pre-existing medical condition that led to his malnourished state.
White said extended family members have indicated the boy was healthy, and it was only in the last few months of his life that he began to only be able to take select foods.
On the day of the boy’s death, his was unable to hold down grits, White said.
White said the defense has yet to receive the autopsy report, which he said is holding up the case.
David G. Daniell, a Warner Robins attorney representing King, also expressed concern in not having received the official report from the coroner.
Based on motions filed by the prosecution, the state also apparently has not received the report, Daniell said.
Daniell said the arraignment for King scheduled for Wednesday was delayed until the resolution of pre-trial motions. He declined to elaborate.
King’s arraignment may take place in mid- to late April or possibly in May, he said.
Dan Bibler, a Houston County assistant district attorney who handled the arraignment for the state, declined comment afterward.
King and Davis are being held without bond at the Houston County jail.

Nearly three years ago, the Houston County Sheriff’s Office investigated the death of 2-month-old K’ron Jarrell Davis, the son of the same couple.
The infant died Oct. 25, 2007. The autopsy, which was conducted by GBI Regional Medical Examiner Dr. Melissa Sims, found that the boy died from “sudden unexplained infant death associated with bed sharing,” Galpin said. The infant was sleeping with the mother, he said. Sims listed the manner of death as “undetermined,” Galpin said.
