Child hospitalized with head injury


WICHITA — A 2-year-old girl is in the intensive care unit and has been placed in protective custody by police after she was brought to a local hospital by her father early Thursday evening.

The child was brought to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis at about 6:20 p.m., and doctors contacted police after examining the girl and finding a head injury.

She is in good condition today at St. Francis, said Lt. Jeff Weible of the Exploited and Missing Child Unit, which is investigating the circumstances of the injury.

"There wasn't any bleeding on the brain," Weible said. "There was blood between the skull and the scalp."
The girl lives in southeast Wichita, police said.
