Seized Car Returned to Hailey's Mom, Items Taken

Billie Dunn's car was returned to her Friday morning after being seized on Jan. 7 in the investigation of her missing daughter, Hailey.

The car, a white 2000 Chevrolet Lumina, was shared by Dunn and her boyfriend, Shawn Adkins, according to the original search warrant.

Items seized from the car were two rolls of electrical tape, a cigarette lighter, papers, trace evidence from inside the car, and debris from the trunk, according to a document signed by Billy Sides, investigator for 32nd Judicial District of Texas.

Cadaver Dogs Searching Abilene Landfill For Hailey Dunn

Search authorities are using cadaver dogs from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to search Abilene's landfill north of town Friday in its ongoing search for missing Colorado City teenager Hailey Dunn.

A number of search personnel could be seen moving about at the landfill.

Colorado City Manager Pete Kampfer confirmed to KTXS News that cadaver dogs for the DCJ were being used.

He also confirmed that this was not the first search of an area landfill. Searchers have also gone through the Colorado City landfill and others as past of their ongoing search for Hailey.

Authorities Searching Landfills for Evidence in Dunn Case

Law enforcement is now searching landfills across the Big Country, including one in Abilene, for any evidence in the disappearance of 13-year-old Hailey Dunn.
Texas DPS Senior Trooper Sparky Dean says many landfills in the vacinity of Colorado City have already been searched. Dean said searches of this nature are not uncommon in missing persons cases that may involve criminal activity.
Sources in law enforcement now tell us they're focusing on a landfill in Abilene.
An officer with the Abilene Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division was seen leaving Allied Waste Services Friday afternoon. When asked for a comment about why he was there, the officer told KTAB News all questions must be referred to Sparky Dean.

Cadaver dogs lead investigators to Abilene dump


The Colorado City Record has learned that cadaver dogs have hit on an area in an Abilene dump where Colorado City's garbage has previously been discarded. Trash, picked up during the time that Hailey Dunn has been missing, was confirmed to have been dumped in that area by the trash service.
Investigators in the missing girl's case will begin an excavation of the site immediately.

Shawn Adkins, 25, told The Associated Press exclusively that he would
"never ever do anything to harm Hailey" Dunn, whose mother reported her
missing Dec. 28 in Colorado City. Adkins was then the live-in boyfriend
of Billie Dunn, Hailey's mother.
Adkins said he prays daily for Hailey's safe return.
Billie Dunn told police that Adkins said he last saw the teen Dec.
27. According to police, Dunn said Adkins told her Hailey said she was
walking to her father's home nearby and then to a friend's house where
she was spending the night. Hailey did not arrive at either location.
Colorado City's city manager, Pete Kampfer, told the AP earlier this
week that Adkins is among several people of interest in the
investigation of the missing middle school cheerleader. No one has been
arrested in the case.
Dunn has denied any involvement in her daughter's disappearance. She told Adkins to move out of their home Jan. 5.
Adkins said he "loves" Hailey and that his life has been "flipped upside down" since her disappearance.
"I struggle so hard just to make it through the day," he told the AP
on Friday. "I can't begin to imagine what Hailey's family, especially
her parents and brother are going through."
Adkins said police have misquoted him in affidavits.
In one, police said Adkins at first was "very positive" about Hailey,
but that as time went on he indicated she was promiscuous and that she
used drugs. Adkins denied this on Friday. He said he had told police
that Billie and Hailey Dunn had discussed taking birth control and that
he had told investigators that the teen was "boy crazy."
Her father, Clint Dunn, has said Hailey is popular, isn't into boys or drugs and "she's just a good ol' American girl."
Another affidavit said police disputed Adkins' assertion that he went
straight to visit his mother in Big Spring, some 40 miles west of
Colorado City, after he left work at 6:10 a.m. on Dec. 27. Police said
cell phone records indicated he had been in Colorado City between 6:35
a.m. and 6:56 a.m. On Friday he again asserted that he had gone straight
to his mother's house that day.
Since Hailey's disappearance more than 100 billboards featuring her
picture, information about the case and a law enforcement phone number
have been set up along interstates in West Texas and even in other
states. The girl is described as white, standing 5-foot-1, weighing 120
pounds, with hazel eyes and brown hair with blondish streaks.
There is a $15,000 reward for information leading to the teen's return.

Anytime I hear about "bad teeth," I think of a meth addict. But then again, hydrocodone is known on the street as "hillbilly heroin." Either way I think the drug use in that household was more than casual. This case is beginning to remind me more and more of Hayleigh Cummings.

No Confirmation If Police Found Evidence Or Remains In Abilene Landfill


ABILENE, Texas -- Law enforcement did not confirm if they found any evidence on missing teen Hailey Dunn,
after spending Friday searching through the Abilene Landfill.
KTXS was told cadaver dogs got two "hits" at the landfill, prompting the investigation.
This, as city officials release that Shawn Adkins has been upgraded to a suspect.
KTXS cameras took to the skies Friday, to get an aerial view of an intense investigation going on at The Abilene Landfill.
Abilene police confirmed members of the criminal investigation division were out searching for Hailey Dunn.
Bulldozers and more than a dozen people in white coats were sifting through the trash.
We're told that often trash from Colorado City is transported to Abilene.

Hailey's Dad Suspected Adkins From The Beginning

COLORADO CITY, Texas -- Hailey Dunn's father Clint is speaking out for the first time since KTXS first released affidavits with shocking information on his daughter's case.

Clint Dunn says he's no longer in contact with Hailey's mother, Billie Jean, since they weren't seeing eye-to-eye before the documents were released and now even more he needed to, "Separate himself from that situation."

Hailey's half sister Chloe wears a tiny shirt with her missing sister's picture on it. Clint says he's holding Chloe a little tighter than usual, "The stress and everything," Clint said, "I'm tired."

On Friday, images of investigators sifting through trash at an Abilene landfill in connection with the investigation painted a grim picture. Law enforcement tells bigcountryhomepage.com cadaver dogs got two "hits" at Allied Waste Services. Though law enforcement wouldn't discuss what the "hits" were, it doesn't appear any remains were uncovered. Authorities now say the search at that specific landfill has ended.

Have to agree with you Tom. My personal opinion is that the mom is just as guilty because she knew Hailey didn't like this guy but mom said she didn't have to like him but had to respect him. Kids have a pretty good 6th sense and parents really should listen more often. Drugs play a part in this also, such losers in the world today that are allowed to be called "parents"--such a sad world.

Hailey Dunn Searchers Hold Candlelight Vigil

COAHOMA - Hundreds of searchers for Hailey Dunn gathered in Coahoma Sunday night to hold a candlelight vigil in support of her safe return. So many lives have been touched by the efforts to find and bring Hailey home.

And when the search can't carry on for the day, West Texans in Coahoma kept up their support with candlelight. "All these different towns are joining together with one common goal and that's to find this girl," volunteer Kevin Walker, said.

Music was played, hands were held and prayers were said. For the volunteer searchers in Coahoma, this was a time to build up the one feeling that's been keeping them going after days of no results.

"Some hope and just to bring us together and to give us a way to pray and just give us some strength, and bring us together as a community," Heather Maddox, one of the organizers of the vigil, said.

The 20 volunteers setting up swelled to more than 100 in 10 minutes time. By the end of the night, candles were held by around 300 people.

"Just speaking to God today," Hailey's cousin, Machelle Barr, said. "I really think he's going to bring her home to us. I believe that."

The Salvation Army of Big Spring has been with these volunteers since Saturday giving them food and drinks while they search. And they say they'll stay as long as they are needed. "If it's just three or four we'll still be here," Captain Terrie Cheshire, with the Big Spring Salvation Army, said. "We have a truck that we can bring instead of our canteen and we can serve out of it. People give us money and this is their money in action."

When the sun rises on Monday, many of these people will be on the lookout again, searching wherever they haven't already. But on this night, hundreds of candles glowed in a sign that they wouldn't give up, hoping no one else does either. NewsWest 9 has also heard rumors that the body of Hailey Dunn was found somewhere between Coahoma and Colorado City. NewsWest 9 called DPS Trooper Sparky Dean and he has officially shut down those rumors, saying they haven't heard or seen any evidence of that.

Day 21: Residents Unite in Search for Hailey

Colorado City, TX - Monday marks exactly three weeks since 13-year-old Hailey Dunn vanished. The case was first labeled a runaway. 21 days later, it appears to be anything but that.
Hailey was last seen by her mother's boyfriend, Shawn Adkins, on Monday, December 27 at their home on Chestnut Street in Colorado City. Adkins is the only person to be named as a suspect in her disappearance.
Over the weekend, no new information was provided by law enforcement that indicated they're any closer to finding Hailey -- or arresting one of their "persons of interest."
As volunteers continue to scour Scurry County for any signs of her, people all around the area are vowing to help the cause in any way they can.

Abilene dump site results not related to Dunn investigation

Officials investigating the Hailey Dunn case did confirm hits by cadaver dogs at the Abilene landfill; however, those results are not related to the investigation.Authorities spent two days searching at the landfill based on hits by cadaver dogs, who are trained to follow dead human scent.
The hits were related to skin cells inside a discarded cast.

The investigation continues into the disappearance of Dunn, a 13-year-old Colorado City teen who disppeared sometime either Sunday or Monday, December 26-27.

Shawn Adkins, the last person to claim to see Hailey alive and former live-in boyfriend of Dunn's mother, Billie Jean Dean, is a prime suspect in the investigation.

Reports of a bone located north of Dunn were determined to be a deer, not human, bone.
