As we enter the third week of 13-year-old Hailey Dunn’s disappearance, frustration grows with city officials, the community and her family as they try to find her.

Billie and Clint Dunn have two children, Hailey and 16-year-old David, but before her disappearance Hailey also helped welcome a new addition, the birth of her half sister Chloe.

CBS 7 spoke with that family who says even baby Chloe is feeling the stress of her big sister missing.


Three-month-old Chloe Dunn is the youngest of Hailey’s siblings.

Chloe’s mother Naomi Stewart says, as a baby Hailey looked almost identical to her little sister.

"Hailey called Chloe mini-me,” she said. "When I was pregnant with Chloe we thought she was a boy, and Hailey prayed and prayed for a little girl."

She says Hailey never showed any signs of jealousy of her newborn sister.

"I know she would do anything for Chloe," she said.

Stewart believes Chloe is also feeling the anxiety of her big sister’s absence.

Hailey played with Chloe everyday.

Dunn Investigation Still Zeroing In On Adkins

Colorado City's City Manager Pete Kampfer tells bigcountryhomepage.com Monday that Shawn Adkins continues to be the major focus of their investigation into the disappearance of Hailey Dunn.
Adkins is the boyfriend of the missing 13-year-old's mother. Investigators believe Adkins was the last person to see Hailey on Monday, December 27 at their home on Chestnut Street in Colorado City. Adkins is the only person to be named as a suspect in her disappearance.
Kampfer says investigators are following up on several leads they received over the weekend. Kampfer says those leads can't be released at this point.

Sighting of Girl Matching Hailey Dunn's Description 1/17/10

Scurry Co. - It’s been three weeks to the day since 13-year-old Hailey Dunn went missing from Colorado City. Today, there were reports that some sighted a girl with Hailey’s description in Mitchell County. Its the latest in hundreds of leads that officials are still following this afternoon.

Deputies in Scurry County tell us they were alerted by Mitchell County that a girl matching Hailey’s description got into red car heading into Scurry County on Highway 208.

Officials say they were never able to locate the red car.

This past weekend authorities searched an Abilene landfill. Officials say the search has been completed and was unsuccessful. Since Hailey’s disappearance, law enforcement agencies and dozens of volunteers have been searching for her.

A possible sighting of missing Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn was a
false alarm, officials with the task force said this morning.

Investigators received a tip that Hailey was spotted in a pickup on
Highway 208 near Dunn,, which is 10 miles north of Colorado City.

“They checked out a possible sighting, but there was no substance to
it,” said Pete Kampfer, city manager in Colorado City who is acting a
spokesman for law enforcement in the case.

Hailey, 13, was reported missing by her mother Billie Dunn on Dec. 28.

Kampfer said investigators continue to follow up and work on leads in
the case and have been searching in Mitchell, Howard, Nolan and Scurry
counties.

Volunteers, including the Taylor County Sheriff’s Posse, combed
several areas in south Scurry County Sunday but turned up nothing.

Representatives from one of the most recognized advocate groups for missing children are on their way to Colorado City to assist in the search for missing 13-year-old Hailey Dunn.

Why Suspect Shawn Adkins Hasn't Been Arrested

Shawn Adkins, the only named suspect in the disappearance of 13-year-old Hailey Dunn is not in police custody yet.

"(An arrest) will depend upon when the investigators and prosecutors look at that and say they've got an overwhelming case to put somebody in jail and keep them there," said Pete Kampfer, Colorado City police spokesman.

There are other persons of interest in addition to Adkins, Kampfer said, and investigators are working to piece all the evidence and information together.

Hailey's Angels: "We Won't Give Up"

Monday marked the start of the fourth week of the search for Hailey Dunn.

Volunteers are staying hopeful and continue to look for the missing 13-year-old near Colorado City.

One of those volunteer groups is called Hailey's Angels.

They started searching just days after she disappeared, and haven't stopped since. The group meets every morning on a bridge in Dunn.

Hailey's Mom: I Can Believe She's Out There

Billie Dunn is holding on to hope that her daughter will be found safely.
"I can believe that she's out there," she said. "I can just continue to hold on to that."
The fact that no evidence of a crime have been uncovered helps the missing 13-year-old's mother cope with her disappearance.
"That's the only thing I can hold on to – that i can get her back safe."
Search team members, who call themselves Hailey's Angels, have been diligently working to find any sign of the girl who disappeared on Dec. 27.

"I hope they don't find anything bad, of course, but I'm thankful that they're devoting so much to Hailey," Dunn said.

It's been exactly three weeks since a
Colorado teen vanished. As of Monday, there's still no sign of
13-year-old Hailey Dunn. Since the girl's disappearance, police have
named Shawn Adkins, the boyfriend of Hailey's mom, a person of
interest. NewsWest 9 traveled to Colorado city to see where detectives
are in their search.
"Our search party looks near bridges, sides
of the roads, property, anything that can help law enforcement," Denise
Coates, with the volunteer search team, said.
Denise Coates is one of many volunteers who have donated their money, efforts and time all in hopes of finding Hailey.
"We are not getting paid for it. It's all out
of our pocket, but as parents, we can get up see our children and the
Dunn's cant."
Volunteers have been on ATV's, horses and
foot. They've even made shirts, anything to help the effort. Some have
even come from outside of Texas to search for the missing
cheerleader.
"People from Arizona and even as far as Brownwood," Coates said.
This group of volunteers have searched
through Howard County, Mitchell County and Scurry County. They say no
matter how long it takes, they will keep searching until Hailey is home.
Even tough it's been three weeks of long days, their dedication will continue.

Grace Airs Videos of Adkins Allegedly Holding Knives, Smoking Pot

New theories surfaced during Monday evening's Nancy Grace broadcast on HLN that could provide insight into exactly when 13-year-old Hailey Dunn went missing.
The boyfriend of Hailey's mother, Shawn Adkins, is believed to be the last person to see Hailey on the afternoon on Monday, December 27. Adkins has been named a suspect in the Colorado City girl's disappearance.
Much speculation has been made about information in police affidavits that doesn't seem to coincide with Adkins' timeline on the morning of the 27th. One theory is that Adkins might have taken Hailey sometime between abruptly leaving his job in Snyder at 6:10 a.m. and Billie Dunn coming home from work that afternoon.

The KlaasKids Foundation, an organization started by Marc Klaas in
1994 after the abduction and murder of his daughter Polly, will be
joining the effort to find missing Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn.

Brad Dennis, director of search operations for the foundation, was scheduled to arrive in Colorado City on Monday night.

Talking by phone from Midland, Dennis said the organization had been
contacted by Hailey Dunn’s family and was joining the search in
cooperation with local law enforcement agencies.

According to the KlaasKids Foundation website, Dennis, a retired Navy
master chief petty officer, has managed search efforts for more than 60
missing children across the country.

UPDATE: Advocate Group KlaasKids Arrives in Colorado City

Tuesday Morning Update:
Brad Dennis, the Director of Search Operations for KlaasKids Foundation’s National Search Center for Missing Children, tells bigcountryhomepage.com he has arrived in Colorado City.
Dennis says he'll be meeting with law enforcement throughout the day as well as Hailey's mother, Billie Dunn.
Dennis says he hopes to formulate a plan for how his group can assist in the search by the end of the day.
At this point, Dennis is the only KlaasKids representative in town. He says additional people from the group will fly as early as tonight, if needed.

UPDATE: Possible Text from Hailey Being 'Held Close'

Tuesday, 9 a.m.
Investigators are not saying either way whether there was a text message sent from Hailey Dunn on Dec. 27, the day she disappeared.

Hailey's mom, Billie Dunn, told a Nancy Grace show producer that investigators informed her Hailey may have sent a text message to a friend at 2 p.m. on the 27th that allegedly said, "what are you doing?"

No information will be released about any text message, Pete Kampfer, spokesperson for the Colorado City Police Department said. Any information in that respect will be "held close to the investigation," he said.

Colorado City Will Add Two Officers To Search For Missing Girl

COLORADO CITY, Texas -- Colorado City will add two police officers to their force to help search for missing teen Hailey Dunn.

KTXS News has talked with Pete Kampfer, the city manager of Colorado City, says ads will go out today to advertise hiring two new officers.

Three weeks in to the search for the missing eighth-grader, Kampfer says many of the people who have volunteered to search have had to go back to their normal lives, but efforts need to continue to find Hailey.

In other developments, Brad Dennis, the Director of Search Operations for KlaasKids, an organization that searches for missing kids, says he's organizing a search party that will be headquartered at the Abilene Civic Center Wednesday.

Suspect in Dunn Disappearance Posts Messages on Myspace

Billie Dunn's boyfriend, Shawn Adkins, is the only person named a suspect in Hailey's disappearance.

Adkins said at the beginning of the investigation he is innocent but we haven't heard much from him since.

He is talking about the disappearance on "Myspace". A few days ago he wrote an update that seems to be a message for Billie.

It says there is nothing more than I want than to be there for you... Don't lose hope, I love you Hailey and David.

Adkins also posted pictures of himself with Billie and Hailey that appear to be taken on Christmas day.

Adkins spoke to KTAB right after Hailey disappeared, but hasn't done any more interviews on the advice of his attorney.

Attorney Says Adkins Smart For Getting "Lawyered Up"





Noted Abilene defense attorney John Young tells KTAB News that Shawn Adkins did the right thing by hiring a lawyer now that he's been named a suspect in the disappearance of 13-year-old Hailey Dunn.
In fact, Adkins began to mention an attorney just days after reportedly failing a polygraph exam on Wednesday, January 5.
Young has defended numerous high-profile suspects in some of Abilene's biggest cases.
"This biggest question is not why he hired a lawyer," said Young. "The biggest question is why he didn't hired a lawyer more quickly."

Search Of Landfills Turns Up Some Evidence In Hailey Dunn Disappearance



LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) -- A spokesman for the investigation into a missing 13-year-old West Texas girl says dogs searching one of three landfills turned up evidence in the case even as hope remains for her safe return.


Colorado City Manager Pete Kampfer declined to elaborate Tuesday on what was found or why the landfill in Abilene was searched in the disappearance of Hailey Darlene Dunn.


Abilene is 70 miles east of Colorado City, where the girl went missing last month.

Kampfer: Report of Dunn Evidence in Landfill Not Accurate

Colorado City's City Manager Pete Kampfer says reports that dogs searching landfills turned up evidence in the disappearance of 13-year-old Hailey Dunn are not accurate.
Colorado City's City Manager Pete Kampfer says while dogs got two "hits," nothing has been confirmed as evidence in the case.
An Associated Press report titled "Landfill Search Yields Clues in Missing Dunn Case?" has circulated across the country on the websites of television stations and newspapers. In the report, Kampfer is cited as saying dogs "turned up evidence." Kampfer says he can't confirm that.
Investigators combed through trash at Allied Waste Services Friday, and law enforcement deemed the search "unsuccessful."
Trash from Colorado City is transferred to Abilene, Odessa, or Snyder, Kampfer previously told bigcountryhomepage.com.

Texas DPS Senior Trooper Sparky Dean says many landfills in the vicinity of Colorado City have already been searched. Dean said searches of this nature are not uncommon in missing persons cases that may involve criminal activity.

Hailey's Mom to 911: Shawn's Threatening to Kill Me

Colorado City, TX - KTAB News has obtained 911 calls made in February 2010 related to a domestic dispute during which, according to police affidavits, Shawn Adkins allegedly threatened to kill 13-year-old Hailey Dunn and her mother.
Adkins is the boyfriend of Hailey’s mother, Billie Dunn, and the only confirmed suspect in the girl’s disappearance. According to police, Adkins was the last person to see Hailey on December 27: the day she went missing.
According to search warrant affidavits filed after Hailey's disappearance, Adkins admitted to investigators that he threatened the lives of both Billie and Hailey during a domestic dispute.
The three 911 calls, obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, refer to threats made against Billie and her estranged husband, Clint, but not against Hailey.

Dogs searching a landfill have turned up evidence in the case of a
13-year-old West Texas girl reported missing nearly three weeks ago, a
spokesman for the investigation told The Associated Press on Tuesday.Colorado

join a regional public defender's office in Lubbock, which handles only
capital cases.The scores of West Texas counties served by the
Lubbock office rarely deal with death penalty cases. But when they do,
trial costs can cripple their budgets; conservative estimates place the
cost of trying one death penalty case at $250,000.Mitchell County
Judge Ray Mayo said Tuesday that he and the four other county
commissioners discussed joining last summer and Hailey's disappearance
had nothing to do with their decision.If a capital case emerges
from Hailey's disappearance, though, the public defender's office would
not handle it. The agreement between Mitchell County and the Lubbock
office does not include pending cases.The cost to the county if there is a capital trial is "certainly" a concern, Mayo said.

Witness: Boy Spotted with Dunn on Day of Disappearance

A woman who lives around the corner from Hailey Dunn said she saw her with an unfamiliar boy on December 27th, the last day anyone saw her.

Jean Burroughs watched Hailey and her brother grow up.

"David and her were always together, and they always played with my grandkids," she said.

She said she saw Hailey walk past her beauty salon on 19th Street in Colorado City countless times. However, on December 27th, she claims she saw Hailey walking with a six or seven-year-old boy she didn't recognize.

"That's why I was looking at her so strong when she was going down the alley, trying to figure out if I knew that kid. But I didn't know him," she said.
