Coroner: Kennewick Baby Died From Blow to the Head

KENNEWICK POLICE NEWS RELEASE -- On 15 March 2011, Kennewick Police responded to a medic assist where an infant was reported not breathing. The infant, Liam Smith, (9 months) was transported to Kennewick General Hospital (from 1100 Block N. Cleveland) where he was later pronounced deceased. An autopsy conducted by the Benton County Coroner’s Office later ruled the death a homicide. This case is an active investigation. There is no new information to release as of this date.
BENTON COUNTY CORONER'S OFFICE NEWS RELEASE -- The Benton County Coroner’s Office issued a final death certificate today in the case of Liam Smith, a 9- month old male who died in the Kennewick General Hospital emergency room on 03-15-11.
Dr. Daniel Selove preformed the autopsy and listed the Cause of Death as acute subdural and subarachnoid hemorrhage due to blunt force trauma. The Manner of Death is homicide. Toxicology tests showed there were no issues with alcohol or drugs.
The case has been under investigation by the Kennewick Police Department.
