"Newborn Jane" JONES-RAINES - 6 Months - Memphis TN

Nigel Raines’ 6-month-old daughter is dead and he's still has questions about how it happened.

“I want to know the whole truth,” he said.

Anaya Jones died Sunday. Her uncle, Ronnie Wilkerson, is charged with
first degree murder. Wilkerson told police he shook the baby three
different times in order to wake her up, unaware of his own strength.

Anaya was taken to Lebonheur with brain trauma. Raines says no one
told him Anaya was in critical condition until 36 hours later. He got to
see his daughter, but she died the very next day.
“I just want closure on this situation,” said Raines. “I want to know what happened to my daughter.”

Anaya's mother, Kendria Jones, is currently in jail on an Aggravated
Child Abuse charge, for allegedly causing blunt force trauma to her
nephew. Raines says Jones is innocent.

“She's not a bad person,” he said. “I honestly don't know why she is [in jail]. She is not a bad person at all.”

The 24-year-old father has custody of his three-year-old son. He says
Anaya's death could have been avoided had he been given custody of
Anaya, while Jones was locked up. As for Wilkerson, Raines says he holds
nothing against him.

“I always forgive. I never hold grudges,” says Raines. “I don't want to be the one to point a finger because I'm not God.”

Raines is just hoping the answers will come soon. “With all my
heart,” he said. “I would rather her rest in peace and me know the
answers, than not to know at all.”

On top of First Degree Murder, Wilkerson is also being charged with Aggravated Child Abuse. He goes before a judge on Dec. 21.
