Sacramento police look for missing 14 year old

SACRAMENTO, CA - A 14-year-old Sacramento girl remains missing since Sunday night.

Sacramento police officer Michele Gigante said Nicholette Garner crawled out of her bedroom about 10 Sunday night and hasn't been seen since.

Officers have contacted the girl's friends and relatives in Sacramento and other areas of California but no one has had contact with her, Gigante said.

The Sacramento Police Department requested that anyone with knowledge of Garner's whereabouts to call the department at (916) 264-5471, Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP (4357) or text in a tip to 274637 (CRIMES). Enter SACTIP followed by the tip information. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.

It was a cat that alerted Bill and Shirlene Garner that their teenage daughter was missing.

The South Natomas couple awoke Sunday night when the cat jumped on their bed.

Thinking it was odd the cat was not asleep with 14-year-old Nicholette – the cat's usual bedtime buddy – Shirlene Garner went to check on their daughter.

The girl was gone.

Now, the Garners and Sacramento police are asking for the public's help in finding the girl, who has not been seen or heard from since.

Police say the girl left a note indicating she was running away and slipped out the window of her family's home on Pony Express Drive.

But police and her parents say the girl's disappearance is worrisome, in part because the behavior is "uncharacteristic."

"We had a really good family weekend. We didn't think there was anything wrong," said Shirlene Garner, 40. "We're close to our kids. We didn't foresee anything like this going on."

Police have contacted family members in the Sacramento area and elsewhere in the state with no success.

Shirlene Garner described her youngest child as friendly and "bubbly."

"Even when we got to the grocery store, she's hugging the clerks," her mother said.

"I'm extremely concerned that she's naive enough – I don't know," she said, trailing off. She said she does not want to think of the frightening possibilities.

Nicholette Garner is described as 5 feet 11 inches tall, 180 pounds with blond hair and blue eyes.

Anyone with information about her whereabouts is asked to call police at (916) 264-5471 or Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP.

In the meantime, her parents are posting fliers and getting the word out.

"We're doing everything we can to keep busy," Shirlene Garner said, "but we're focusing on her. We want her back."

Missing Natomas Teen Found

A runaway Natomas teen missing nearly a week has been found and reunited with her family.

Garner's parents contacted THE NATOMAS BUZZ on Monday to report the
14-year-old was back home. A Sacramento Police Dept. spokesperson
confirmed yesterday Garner was no longer listed as a missing person.
On
Monday, Oct. 15 at about 12:52 a.m., police officers responded to
Garner’s home when her family reported her missing. The teen had not
been seen since the night before and had reportedly crawled out her
bedroom window.
"She is home safe," said the teen's mother, Shirlene Garner. "We are very happy that she has been found."
