Re: KYRON HORMAN - 7 yo - Portland OR
Im not one to really watch the news but I just happened to be watching it the first day the story aired. My first thought was that it was the step-mother. Every day now I have been looking at updates. I dont know if its just because Im a parent that I am so interested, or maybe I feel like I know the kid from watching it so much, or maybe I just want to know what really happened. Sorry if I sound crazy lol. I really hope he is found alive ( which I know chances are slim to none) or I at least hope he is found and they can put whoever did it away. I couldnt imagine being without my child and not knowing ANYTHING. I find it so weird that no one knows ANYTHING. And what about that "sub" teacher that Tanner said he talked to and the school later said there were no subs that day. They tried to say it was his mind making up things but what if it wasn't and there was someone there that wasnt supposed to be? It is really unsettling to me, this whole thing.

Re: KYRON HORMAN - 7 yo - Portland OR
I just ran across this. Looks like they are finally questioning the family's involvement a little
"According to CBS affiliate KOIN, authorities are trying to stem the tide of online rumors surrounding the case, and his family's possible involvement. Police say Kyron's parents are doing all they can to help.
School officials and law enforcement are trying to keep a clamp on information they say could compromise the investigation.
What is known is that Kyron's stepmother, Terri Moulton Horman, saw him in the hallway of rural Skyline Elementary School on the morning of June 4. It was minutes after Kyron had presented his second-grade science fair project, a diorama on red-eyed tree frogs.
When Kyron's school bus arrived at his home that afternoon, he wasn't on it. His stepmother called the school, and the school called 911.
Investigators have refused to release a more detailed timeline of the day Kyron went missing - or say whether they've found any clues, or have any suspects or theories about what happened.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Kyron Horman is asked to call the Multnomah County Sheriff's tip line at 503-261-2847."

How can they say it is "known" that his stepmom saw him in the hallway heading to class?? There are no cameras and I haven't heard LE say that this information has been verified by anyone else besides stepmom. Am I missing something??

---Welcome to J4C Tammers! Now you know what makes me stay up until I am bleary eyed some nights updating these topics. I do get involved, as much as I can, and this young boy is just one of hundreds and hundreds on this blog.tammers1212 wrote:Im not one to really watch the news but I just happened to be watching it the first day the story aired. Let me say that LE (Law Enforcement) knows great deal more than they are letting on. The move to a criminal investigation allows them a little more leeway in who they can call into the station and under what circumstances. Soon you will ( we all will ) find out exactly how much they knew. It was the same in the Sandra Cantu investigation in the early days. It was very frustrating to be waiting ang waiting but in the end, ESOTD 2.0 was
committed to life in prison without parole....and that's only because she plead guilty. I expect that much the same will happen here and you are, IMHO, correct in suspecting the step-mom. I'll be happy to eat crow if she's not suspect numero uno.

Friends of Kyron Horman's

Portland on Tuesday night. The public is invited to Sunset

anyone affected by the child's disappearance."I think it impacts
everyone the same way. As a parent with young children, you know it's
unimaginable," she said.Owens said she and a small group of
family friends have been making buttons, fliers and banners to spread
the message about Kyron."Basically, our focus is continuing to
put Kyron out in front of the community so he won’t be forgotten because
he's out there and we need help bringing him home," she said.Owens
said people need to keep looking for the missing second-grader."We
need to be vigilant. We need to keep out eyes open to anything. I fully
believe that this little boy will be found," Owens said.Sheriff's

They KNEW a crime had been committed from the get go, guess they just had to wait for evidence to start showing up. Keeping Kyron in my prayers, whatever his fate-I pray he's found soon.

Re: KYRON HORMAN - 7 yo - Portland OR
Classes ended at Skyline School
in Northwest Portland today on a bittersweet note without Kyron Horman,
the 7-year-old who vanished from the school 11 days ago.
"I'm disappointed the year is over already because I think the kids need each
other right now," said Beth Smith, walking onto school grounds to pick
up her 12-year-old daughter, who was Kyron's reading buddy.
"She's still scared," Smith said. "Her whole security has been taken away from her."
Smith said her daughter, a sixth-grader, is worried that
the person who snatched Kyron could return to the school.
"She said from the get-go he didn't just walk off," Smith said. "He's a quiet
boy. He follows the rules. He listens. He loves his family."
His disappearance has cast a pall over the elementary school like the
shroud of gray clouds that hammered it today with hail. Still, teachers,
staff and parent volunteers tried to end the school year on an
optimistic note with a mid-day school assembly planned long before Kyron
went missing the morning of June 4.
"The overall message was to
celebrate the entire school year while recognizing it had been a
difficult last week and a half," said Matt Shelby, spokesman for
Portland Public Schools, who was on hand for the last day of classes.
With reporters kept off school grounds, everyone gathered for the
assembly, which was opened by Principal Benjamin Keefer, who said
everyone was wishing for Kyron's safe return. Nate McMillan, coach for
the Portland Trail Blazers,
talked about the importance of taking responsibility and staying safe
over the summer, and Brandon Roy, an All-Star guard for the Blazers,
gave his own motivational talk.
The assembly also included a speech by the recently signed goalkeeper for the Portland Timbers soccer team,
Adin Brown, and a performance by pianist Michael Allen Harrison, an artist-in-residence for Portland Public Schools.
The mood was generally upbeat both before and after, with kids playing and
laughing on school grounds, Shelby said.
"It was good to see the students being kids," he said.
But Kyron's disappearance
continues to haunt the K-8 school on a day when law enforcement plumbed
leads and divers were sighted suiting up on private property in Northwest Portland.
Smith said she has no plans to pluck her
daughter from the school that she and her two brothers graduated from.
She still lives in the house nearby where she grew up.
"We trust the school," Smith said. "I know Mr. Keefer is devastated and
heartbroken. He knows each of these kids and their interests. We need to
let him know we're behind him 100 percent."

Re: KYRON HORMAN - 7 yo - Portland OR
Instead of mourning the loss of someone, about 250 people came together
Tuesday evening to rekindle their hope that Kyron Horman will be found
safe and soon.
With somber music creating an atmosphere of tranquility, the
congregation at Sunset Presbyterian Church was bound not necessarily by
faith but in their belief Kyron will be found alive.
“I don’t allow anything else to enter my mind. Would you, if it was your
kid?” said Michelle Preble who organized the Facebook pages devoted to
the missing 7-year-old boy. “Just as a mom I couldn’t sit by and not do
anything.”
Many came to the vigil not out of grief.
“Crisis, like the one we’re facing here with the disappearance of Kyron,
pushes us to pray and to turn to God,” said Ron Kincaid, Pastor of the
church. “So that’s what we’re doing tonight.”
Kincaid, who is also a Skyline School parent, encouraged participants to
break into small groups to offer prayers and to ask for a miracle for
Kyron, comfort for his family and healing for his school where he
vanished over a week ago.
“We’re all incredibly heartbroken, yet have hope at the same time Kyron
will be returned to family safe and sound, and that’s what’s helping us
through,” said Skyline Principal Benjamin Keefer.
Kyron’s parents and stepparents watched the vigil from a private room.
Baskets that were passed around overflowed with messages to the family
from those who attended the vigil.
In a separate effort to raise public awareness about Kyron’s
disappearance, Clear Channel Outdoor in Oregon and Southwest Washington
donated the material and the space for 30 billboards that will feature
Kyron’s name and face. Ten of the billboards will be in Russian, 10 in
Spanish, and 10 will be in English.

From FB:
Out of the thousands of people on this page there must be someone who
works for or owns a trucking company..If you do and would like to help
please consider placing a banner on your long haul trucks for Kyron. If
you contact me I believe I know where I can get them donated from..Also,
truckers, if you can print up a bunch of his fliers and pass them on
your road trips it would help get his information out there even more.
Leave them at truck stops, pass them to fellow truckers..there really is
so much more we can do to help.

Does this mean that they KNOW something. I cant see why they would search for something like that if they had hopes he was alive. They must know something. Hopefully LE can follow thru and find him whether dead or alive, at least he could have a proper burial and the family would have closure

Re: KYRON HORMAN - 7 yo - Portland OR
Investigators renewed their call for the public's help in their search
for missing boy Kyron Horman, the 7-year-old who disappeared from his elementary school
on June 4.
A billboard showing information on missing child Kyron
Horman.
Thirty large billboards with Kyron's smiling, bespectacled face, the
words "Endangered Missing," and a phone number to call have started
popping up throughout the region, written in English, Spanish and Russian.
The billboards were donated by Clear Channel "to help get the message
out to bring Kyron home," according to the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.
"We're still waiting for that one tip. That one tip that will bring
Kyron home," Multnomah County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Lt. Mary Lindstrand said.
Lindstrand characterized the investigation as "moving forward" but
declined to provide further details. Tips from the public continue to
come in on "a consistent basis" she said, but didn't provide an exact number.
One tip arrived in the mail written on a postcard, Lindstrand said.
Police said dive teams continued searching bodies of water near where
Kyron disappeared. Investigators including members of the sheriff's
major crimes team and the FBI are canvassing a four mile radius around
Kyron's school and re-interviewing parents, students and school employees.
Lindstrand said sheriff's officials are in regular contact with Kyron's parents, who have declined interviews.
"They said, 'We don't want our faces out there. We want Kyron's face out there,'" she said.
Police declared the case a criminal investigation Sunday
and since Monday have refused to grant any interviews or provide regular updates.
Lindstrand held a brief press conference today outside a sheriff's
building because she said investigators want to keep the public
interested in the case.
Lindstrand also said the television show "America's Most Wanted" is
currently preparing a story on Kyron's case.
Kyron disappeared on the morning of June 4, after he and his stepmother
Terri Horman attended a school science fair where Kyron had displayed a
project on red tree frogs. His stepmother said she last saw Kyron walking
down a hallway toward his classroom.
When Kyron didn't come home on the bus that Friday afternoon, his
parents called the school, which in turn called 911, launching what
Gates said could be the largest search operation in Oregon history.
Approximately 1,300 searchers in the field were joined by 213 additional
investigators from 42 different agencies from California, Oregon and Washington.
A National Guard helicopter also joined in the search.
Many of the search teams have packed up and headed home, although a
small number of local teams will be on call in case there are any new
leads or developments.
Kyron's family has only appeared twice in public
since he disappeared. On Friday, his stepfather made an emotional plea
for his return.
"You mean everything to us," said his stepfather Tony Young. "And until
you come home this family's not complete. Please Kyron, keep up the hope."
For many people here, the distinction between a missing persons case and
a criminal one is irrelevant since Kyron is still nowhere to be found.
"It has not changed our focus," family friend Becky Owens said. "Our
focus has been and will continue to be finding Kyron. So it doesn't
change what we're doing, getting his face out to as many people as
possible."

on June 4.

Re: KYRON HORMAN - 7 yo - Portland OR
From AOL News and Contributor David Lohr....
It has been nearly three weeks since 7-year-old Kyron Horman
mysteriously disappeared from his elementary school in Portland, Ore.
In that time, local authorities have
put in hundreds of hours and launched a number of searches for the
missing youngster, all to no avail.
Now, as the search efforts begin to wind down, some are starting to question
the way in which the investigation is being handled.
In contrast to most missing-child cases -- in which police and family members
attempt to draw as much media attention as possible -- there has been an
unusual silence around Kyron's disappearance. Police
have refused to release a detailed timeline or comment on possible
theories. In addition, the boy's family has made just two public appearances:
at a Friday police press conference, where they briefly pleaded for his return but did not take
questions, and a Sunday police press conference, at which they were
present but did not speak.
But are the tight-lipped tactics being used in the Kyron Horman case counterproductive? Not necessarily, says Harold
Copus, a former FBI agent who has worked dozens of missing-person cases.
"The
police might think that this is an abduction and, because of that,
don't want to feed information to the suspect," Copus, now head of Copus
Security Consultants in Atlanta, told AOL News. "They may also want the
family to remain silent so they don't inadvertently say something they
shouldn't to reporters."
Kyron was last seen by his stepmother, Terri Moulton Horman, walking to his classroom at
Skyline Elementary School on June 4. When the boy failed to return home
later that day, his family called the school and discovered he was missing.
Search-and-rescue teams have scoured an area spanning
several miles, but no sign of Kyron has been found.
Earlier this week, authorities announced they had reclassified the case as a criminal investigation;
up to that point, Kyron was considered a "missing endangered child." In
addition, Multnomah County Sheriff's Capt. Jason Gates told The Associated Press that local parents had
been told that Kyron's disappearance was an isolated incident. "There is
no reason to believe that the kids are in any danger here," Gates said.
Gates' statement has caused some to surmise there must be specific information
that is leading the authorities to believe no other children are in
danger. After all, if a child predator were on the loose, why would the
police tell parents they don't need to take extra precautions?
According to Copus, it could be an assumption based on past experiences.
"If you're a child sexual predator, you only need one victim at a time. You
don't need one victim a day," Copus said. "You have to put yourself in
their mind-set. Once they've done this evil deed, they know there's
going to be a tremendous amount of publicity, so they'll immediately go
underground and disappear.
"It would be unusual for a second child to be abducted in such a close period of time."
With the investigation now in its third week, investigators have had plenty of time
to narrow down the list of potential suspects, Copus said.
"When you first start the case, you assume the child has wandered away and may
have become lost or got himself hurt," Copus explained. "From a law
enforcement standpoint, quietly, the second track is the child was
abducted, and the third is that he has been killed.
"While you get the search parties and do all the work on track one, you start
quickly narrowing down suspects," Copus continued. "You don't publicize
what's going on, but you look at registered sex offenders, and also the
possibility that a member of the child's household has done something to the child."
Regardless of what may have happened to Kyron, Copus
said the important thing is to keep his photo out there, along with the
hope that he could still be alive.
"Odds are small that he is alive, but then, there are cases out there where [missing children] are found
alive later," Copus said. "You can always use that to give hope to a parent."

Kyron Horman: Criminal Investigation – UPDATE 06/17/10
Posted on June 17th, 2010 by Valhall
Despite the fact possible sightings are coming in from as far away as the Midwest on the criminal investigation into missing 7-year old Kyron Horman, law enforcement continue to center on the local area surrounding Skyline Elementary. They are continuing to search bodies of water in the nearby area, and specifically Sauvie Island. As late as yesterday dive teams were still search the water surrounding Sauvie. Law enforcement have released a picture of Kyron without his glasses, as well as close ups of an “exact replica” of Kyron’s glasses.
Multnomah County Sheriff’s department spokesperson Lt. Mary Lindstrand stated yesterday, the 16th, that the entire East County Major Crimes Team, in conjunction with the FBI and the Portland Police Bureau are continuing to work the case. In ground searches, the investigators have almost completed a second pass of the neighborhoods in a 4-mile radius around Kyron’s elementary school where he was last seen. They have still met with resistance from some property owners on searching all properties, but the number of unsearched properties is reported to be “small”.
The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Department has vowed to not let this become a cold case. Our prayers are with them, Kyron and Kyron’s family.

LE must have reason to believe Kyron’s glasses were ditched somewhere or something to that effect. They have released a photo of him without his glasses and a pic of his glasses? I guess they are just trying to cover all bases.
Blink,I know you have covered this topic already but I am missing something about why LE is staying with the family. Is this normal protocol? I am not insinuating SM, I am just curious about why they have spread that fact. Is it possibly to keep them from doing something they would regret?
I deferred this issue yesterday, but since they have released a pic of Kyron without his glasses, I feel pretty comfortable in saying I believe they have recovered Kyron’s glasses and what we saw where actually his.
As far as LE staying with the family, it is a policy and judgement call based on the situation.
I am not ready to comment on it yet, but there is alot about this case really bugging me today.

Re: KYRON HORMAN - 7 yo - Portland OR
I don't understand why people are allowed to deny access to their property for search, can't LE get search warrants for these properties that specify LE can only remove items that could be tied to Kyron's disappearance?? (Probable cause could be the fact that they are within the search areas, couldn't it???) Just wondering if this was possible......
