Eight-year-old Tanner Pumala says the first person to notice Kyron
Horman was missing was a substitute teacher who was taking a head count
as the second and third grade class was re-assembling after visiting
other classrooms for a science fair at Skyline School last Friday. "And
she was like 'oh no where's Kyron there's only five' and Mrs. Porter
was like it's okay calm down, calm down he's probably in the bathroom or
getting a drink of water and she said alright I'm going to leave and
she left, " says Tanner Pumala. Tanner is Kyron's deskmate in
their combined second-third grade classroom. Tanner says Kyron was in
school for at least an hour Friday morning and that he saw Kyron's
step-mother leave the school without Kyron.F-B-I agents
interviewed Pumala, and Multnomah County Sheriff Dan Staton visited with
Pumala Wednesday afternoon according to Pumala's grandmother Wendy
Fuhrur.Upon hearing the substitute teacher noticing that Kyron
was not present in the classroom, Pumala says the regular teacher said
Kyron had probably gone to get a drink of water or to use the bathroom.
It wasn't until the bus ride home from school, says Pumala that he
noticed Kyron was not on the bus. Kyron's step-mother notified school
authorities of her son's not being on the bus at around 3:45pm Friday
afternoon. Pumala's grandmother says F-B-I agents and Multnomah
County investigators have asked Pumala and his grandmother not to speak
with the media, for reasons they did not divulge. Fuhrur says she
decided to allow her grandson talk, in part to keep the missing boy in
the public eye. Separately several dozen more ground searchers
arrived in Portland Wednesday night to intensify their ground search
Thursday.

I am good friends with the missing boy Kyron and I need to fill in some blanks for
your posters. Kyron lives in a marvelous home and is taken care of by
two wonderful parents. He has a baby sister and an older brother and
loves his stepmom dearly. There is nothing but support for him at home
and this is a terrible shock that has happened. Stop turning everything
into a CSI story line. What they didn't say is that Kyron's backpack and
jacket were found in his classroom, so the something fishy is coming
form the school who never reported him missing. The children pointed out
to the teacher that Kyron was missing and she never called his parents.
I am worried sick and the last thing anyone needs to do is point at the
parents ... this time, the school dropped the ball and a child is out
in the darkness possibly alone or possibly abducted. Keep your facts
straight before you start the witch hunt. Kyron's Portland Aunt

KATU News extended an invitation to Horman’s parents to speak to the
media after a reporter found them at a local gym Wednesday after their
workout.
But the Horman’s drove off without responding to a question how the
media could help.
Terri Horman, Kyron’s stepmother, hasn’t been completely silent. She has
spent some time on Facebook since Friday responding to posts from
friends and talking about her workouts, which is more that Jensen said
he finds unusual.

so there was a head count? does that mean kyron possibly went to the electric project and was with them, and when they returned to class for the delayed 10am start, that is when he was discovered missing? and a teacher left? which teacher - maybe this is why LE won't confirm/deny his presence at the school - maybe they have evidence he was taken and left in an area - and now they can't find him?

Thank you for sharing this Tom!! If all of the info in this article is correct, then the teacher who dismissed Kyron being gone as 'no big deal' really dropped the ball...that is the whole purpose of roll call or head counts in school-to be sure ALL of the students are present or otherwise accounted for! Valuable time was lost between the time it was discovered he was gone and the end of the school day...time that can never be made up for...I am still praying for you Kyron!!

Search for Kyron Horman to expand today; Multnomah County
sheriff
says boy's family has "fully cooperated"
Published:

The Multnomah County sheriff said searchers have covered "every piece of ground" within a 21/2-mile radius of Skyline School, where 7-year-old Kyron Horman was last seen, and plan to go over that area again starting today.
A renewed search effort -- this one involving certified search and rescue volunteers from across Oregon -- beings this morning.
The Oregonian's continuing coverage of missing second-grader Kyron Horman.
On the "Today" show this morning, Sheriff Dan Staton told Matt Lauer that today's effort is intended to build on the initial search and cover areas already looked at by trained searchers. He said authorities have made "door-to-door checks with every residence
in this area. We havebeen folllowing up on every lead that comes in."Lauer
noted that "more and more people are starting to talk about the fact
that this family has decided not to step into the spotlight" -- a
contrast with other parents of missing children who have spoken
publicly. On Wednesday, a sheriff's official read a statement written by
the family, asking the public to continue looking for the boy. Lauer
asked if Kyron's parents are "fully cooperating."
Staton said the
family has cooperated "in every effort."
"They have been
consoling each other. We are respecting that."

interesting comments about this -
From your link:
"Here are some facts that wont make the news, from someone who has heard
everything, here are some facts.
-The step mom walked to the classroom with Kyron to drop off his
backpack but chose not to walk him back to the classroom when the show
was over. (For anyone who has ever been to an elementary school, it is
very weird for a parent not to walk their second grader back to class
and say good bye)
-The step mom saw the teacher, is a crowded and loud gym, to inform her
that Kyron had an appointment. Thats all that was said. Thats why when
the teacher saw Kyron wasn't in class she thought nothing of it.
-The step mom acknowledged the fact that she said Kyron had an
appointment, but she said that she ment it was for next week.
-The step mom e mailed the teacher when she got home asking when she
would pick up his science fair stuff."
End -
I don't want to even go there, but it looks like this "step-mom" knew all the right moves to make...from the picture on FB, to the notifying of the teacher, to calling immediately after school. However, the sad thing is, all of that could be construed as normal and loving. But let's remember one thing here...that was his STEP-MOM. It is common in the animal kingdom for the newcomer to get rid of the previous offspring. I'm just saying, not casting aspersions...I still want to know where the heck the school cameras were.....I just have a feeling this child wasn't randomly abducted...
And Onehope, she has removed that game link. It's gone. I wish I had seen it, I would've taken a screen shot, and for what it is worth, those posts happen immediately. I know for myself, I find games to be a way to keep my mind sharp, and a nice momentary diversion, but not if my CHILD is missing. No way, no how. She had the presence of mind to conveniently upload a pic of Kyron and create a page? ....I promise, I would not have thought of that first thing.... The FIRST thing I would've done was go to the school and demand some answers. Show me the tapes. Then, go to the police and demand answers. I'd search the neighborhood, his friends' houses, call each classmate...visit personally...I sure as hell would not have started a FB page right off the bat. Sometimes when people do things too quickly, it looks staged and premeditated. I hope to God I am wrong, but from the outside looking in, that is what it looks like to me - Staged and Premeditated. Everything is too perfect, like she KNEW he was going to go missing, and here's what will look good to the public, like she is a grieving, worried step-mom, and what a good parent she was. Nope, I don't buy it. And where is dad in all of this?
this comment has now been completely removed from the comment section of that story. i find that extremely odd. how would this person know this if it is true, only because someone (the teacher?) told him/her about it, or the poster is the teacher

Parents urge public to help in search of missing boy
By Gabriel Falcon,
June 10, 2010 8:10 a.m. EDT
CNN) -- The parents of a missing Oregon boy have urged the
public to continue helping authorities find their son. "Please
search your properties, your cars, your outbuildings, your sheds," the
immediate family of Kyron Horman said in a statement Wednesday that was
read by Captain Mike Shults of the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.
"Also check with your neighbors and friends who may be on vacation or
may need assistance to search their property. "There are a lot of
resources out there to help. Please don't stop. "Kyron's family
would like to thank everyone for their support and interest in finding
their son," the statement added. "The outpouring of support and
continued effort strengthens their hope." The 7-year-old Portland
child was reported missing by his stepmother last Friday after he did
not return home from school, authorities said. According to
investigators, Kyron's stepmother said she last saw him Friday morning
walking down a hallway towards his second-grade classroom at Skyline
Elementary School. Police have described the incident as an
"isolated case" and have no evidence suggesting a crime was committed.
"We're not prepared to call it a criminal investigation at this point,"
Captain Jason Gates of the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office told
reporters Tuesday, "But we are certainly prepared to call it a missing
endangered child investigation."
Shults, who has been serving as a liaison with Kyron's parents said the family's "objective is to keep the focus
on Kyron and not about anything else." A statement by Kristina
Porter, Kyron's teacher, was read at Wednesday's briefing by Ben Keefer,
the principal of Skyline Elementary School. "The students in
Kyron's class miss him terribly, and we are all wishing for his safe
return," said Porter. "It has been gratifying to see how caring and
supportive the children have been with each other throughout this
ordeal." At Wednesday's briefing, Gates said a statewide search
and rescue plan has been activated in connection with the case. Several
hundred search and rescue members and teams from across the state will
help in the efforts to locate the child. Authorities continue to
pursue hundreds of tips, most of them from Oregon and Washington. "We
don't have enough information to satisfy the criteria to complete an
Amber Alert or issue an Amber Alert," Gates explained. "Amber Alerts are
designed to find children very quickly when we have specific
information."

My comments are in red - snipped news articles are in blue. just gathering my thoughts
TomTerrific0420 wrote:Friday began as a special day for 7-year-old Kyron Horman. His school in Northwest Portland was
having a science fair and he was keen to show off his project to his
stepmother.
So, instead of taking the bus near his home off
Cornelius Pass Road as usual, he hopped into the car with his
stepmother, Terri Moulton Horman, who drove him to Skyline Elementary
School.
They arrived sometime after the school opened about 8
a.m., went to his classroom, dropped off his coat and backpack and he
showed his stepmother his exhibit, "The Red-Eyed Tree Frog."
Did they bring it with them or was it already at
school? We still don't know if the backpack and coat remained in the
classroom at the end of the day (searching for a report of this)
Horman,
who has raised Kyron since he was an infant, snapped a picture of him
standing in front of it that she later posted on her Facebook page. It
shows a bespectacled and beaming short-haired boy wearing a blue "CSI"
T-shirt in front of an exhibit with photos of bug-eyed frogs, an
anatomical drawing of the creature and other artwork.
No confirmation of the timestamp to facebook of this
photo upload and now fb is private.
"He was so excited
about his science project," said Carol Moulton, Horman's mother and
Kyron's grandmother. "They had worked on it together. He was anxious to
take it to school and show it off."
"take it to school" when did they actually take the
project to school?
After that, the two looked at other
projects set up on desks in classrooms. There are about 300 students at
Skyline Elementary, and all
of them were invited to contribute to
the fair.
so is this the 8:15am - 8:45 timeframe discussed in
other reports?
Although the school usually opens at 8:35
a.m. and the final bell rings 10 minutes later, the school opened as
early as 8 Friday for the science fair, said Matt Shelby, spokesman for
Portland Public Schools.
Other students and parents showed up
early as well to check out the fair, andTerri and Kyron saw people they
knew while looking at the exhibits, Carol Moulton said.
No reports of anyone seeing the two of them at the
fair except for the little boy who said something about a cool electric
project - i will cite the source later of this
Terri often
volunteers at the school, working closely with Kyron's teacher,
Kristina Porter. Shelby said that Porter saw Kyron in her classroom with
his stepmom before 8:45 a.m. and another instructor reported seeing him
in another classroom at some point.
No reports of Porter seeing them together except this
early article. And the other instructor that saw him has not been
identified.
At 8:45 a.m. when the bell rang, Terri walked her stepson down the hall close to his
class.
"He told her, 'I'm going back to the classroom, Mom,'
and she waves to him and left," Carol Moulton said. "She thought he was
safely at school just like he is everyday."
media reports that it was 150 ft away.

happened to the boy who went missing is unclear.

Carol Moulton said
the kids were supposed to report to their classes and be divided into
small groups of a few students each. Each group was supposed to tour the
science fair with a chaperone. Afterward, when they returned to their
classes for roll call, Kyron wasn't there, she said.
the interview with the little boy indicated he was
with him for about an hour - and the teacher did a headcount upon the
return and discovered only 5 of the 6 were there - which indicates to me
he was placed with a chaperone (who?) and he toured the projects and
sometime during this he went missing (8:45am - 10am) assuming the
headcount was around 10am which is when school was to start. the substitute told miss porter and she said he "probably
went to get a drink of water or the bathroom" according to the little
boy interviewed. SNIPPED Tanner Pumala,
Kyron's classmate, said he last saw his friend at about
the same time when Kyron told him he was headed to look at another
student's science project."He walked by the hallway and I'm like,
'Hi, Kyron,' and he's like, 'Hi. I'm going to go see this cool one.
It's electric.' I'm like,
'Alright, bye.' And that's the last time I saw him," Tanner said. "He
never did make it back to class."

SNIPPED -substitute teacher who was taking a head
count as the second and
third grade class was re-assembling after visiting other classrooms for a
science fair at Skyline School last Friday.
"And she was like
'oh no where's Kyron there's only five' and Mrs. Porter was like it's
okay calm down, calm down he's probably in the bathroom or getting a
drink of water and she said alright I'm going to leave and she left, "
says Tanner Pumala.
Tanner is Kyron's deskmate in their combined
second-third grade classroom. Tanner says Kyron was in school for at
least an hour Friday morning and that he saw Kyron's step-mother leave
the school without Kyron.

After
leaving the school, Terri went about her day, running errands and
taking care of household chores. She is a former elementary school
teacher and has worked as a substitute teacher at various schools, but
Moulton said that in recent years she has mainly been a stay-at-home
mom.
Many postings to facebook during the day and some had
questionable timestamps.
Kyron's father, Kaine Horman,
works at Intel's main administrative facility in Oregon, the Jones Farm
campus in Hillsboro, the company said.
Kaine Horman issued an email asking the employees not
to talk to the media. http://ackerlaw.com/blog
Kyron's
biological mother, Desiree Horman, and his father were officially
divorced in February 2003, according to Washington County Circuit Court
records.
Once she was notified, she drove to the
town - and her sister issued a comment.
Carol Moulton said
that Kaine, 36, and Terri, 40, have been together for seven or eight
years and that they have been married
for four or five years. The
couple have an 18-month-old girl.
Terri has a 16 year old biological son who does not
live with them (some accounts say he moved out 3 months ago) and is said
to be living with her parents on a horse farm.
"Terri
has raised Kyron," her mother said. "She's been with him since he was an
infant. She's as much of a mom as the mom is because the parents had
separated about the time that Kyron was born."
She said he
visits his biological mother in Medford every couple of weeks and that
Desiree, 38, came to Portland as soon as she heard about his
disappearance.

SNIPPED I obviously cannot comment on Kyron or the ongoing
investigation.
Kyron was supposed to take the bus home Friday, so Terri went to the bus
stop at 3:30 p.m. to pick him up.
But the bus driver told her
he wasn't there.
SNIPPED upon hearing the substitute teacher noticing
that Kyron was not present
in the classroom, Pumala says the regular teacher said Kyron had
probably gone to get a drink of water or to use the bathroom. It wasn't
until the bus ride home from school, says Pumala that he noticed Kyron
was not on the bus.
Panicked, she ran home and called the school to discover that he had
been marked absent for the day. She called 9-1-1, setting off a search
that's drawn in a swarm of officers and several law enforcement
agencies, including the FBI.
http://www.koinlocal6.com/content/news/topstories/story/Hormans-desk-mate-says-substitute-noticed-Horman/TVY3YTREG0SyCP3tb3MkZg.cspx
Officers,
working with sniffer dogs, have combed the hilly, wooded area around
Skyline Elementary.
Moulton doubts Kyron wandered off on his
own. It's just not in his character, she said.
"He's a little
bit dreamy. He's a sweet kid. He gets distracted. He's your typical
second-grader," she said. But he's no Huckleberry Finn. "He'snot real
adventurous," she said. "He's a little timid. But if a friend wanted to
go outside and look at something, he would follow the friend. He has a
friend who he regularly gets in trouble with in the classroom because he
talks too much."
could someone have lured him to the "electric" exhibit
and taken him?
Moulton said Kyron will not even venture
far from his home in a wooded area. "He won't get out of sight of the
house," she said. "He's pretty insecure about that. So I can't see him
wandering off."
His disappearance is devastating for the
close-knit family, which plays board games together, goes bowling and
enjoys visits to the Oregon Zoo. A few years ago, the family took a trip
to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla.
Terri also has a 16-year-old
son from a former marriage who has lived with her mom and dad for the
past few months in Roseburg. The teen's father also lives in the area
and the two are on a Boy Scout camping trip this weekend. It will be
difficult to give him the news, Moulton said.
Kyron's father asked them to specifically search a
horse farm -
After today, searchers hope to have covered all of
those areas, Olsen
said. She said in addition to those areas, searchers also have
responded
to requests from Kyron’s father, Kaine, about areas where the boy may
be, including a horse pasture in Banks, which was searched Sunday.

"It's
a total mystery," she said. "He just vanished. I just can't believe
it."

The mom mentioned to the teacher that Kyron had an appointment.
It was for next week but that wasn't clearly stated to the teacher. The
teacher thought mom took him to an appointment.http://www.oregonlive.com/portland/index.ssf/2010/06/day_three_search_continues_hun/4053/comments-2.html

Man, the parents are real upset aren't they---NOT!!! Remind me of skank/misty, "that problem is solved", then go on about their lives.
So, what have the stepmom/dad done with this little boy?? In my opinion, they know exactly what has happened.

watch this video report of the story and the parents reaction to the media when they leave the gym wednesday -
I just don't understand the parents' reaction to this reporter....I mean all that was asked was if there was anything that can be done to help, and they respond by jumping in the car like the Dukes of Hazard. I would have at least said thanks for offering...don't they realize how bad this makes them appear?!

LE, FBI always advise families to stay away from media because their manner etc takes the focus away from the missing child. People begin to discuss the parents etc rather than the child. Until there is a genuine reason to suspect the parents searchers and locals should assume this is a case of abduction or murder by someone other than a family member. A couple of things I've been wondering was whether there was a dumpster at the school and whether it happened to be collected that day. I also wondered whether any other kids were jealous of Kyrons project or maybe he damaged someone elses by accident. Just trying to think of scenarios. Sure is a bizzare case.

Re: KYRON HORMAN - 7 yo - Portland OR
yes it is kiwi - here though, parents generally make a plea - and they haven't said one word publicly - so it is most unusual. now i am wondering about this "new" 2 mile search - god forbid, what if they pinged the cell phone towers around the school to find out who was making calls and this narrowed down their "list" - if someone wasn't where they said they were - this would show up real quick.
btw, hope you girls had a fantastic time - so happy you made it back safe and sound. i am most jealous and want to bring my family to visit you someday -

Are the parents of a missing child allowed to participate in the ground search, or are they usually advised not to??
