Las Vegas NV ---- Neighbors of a woman accused of
beating her 3-year-old stepson to death are describing Kedria Watson,
27, said they suspected child abuse before the boy's death .Watson’s
stepson, Darrel Jones, 3, died from massive brain swelling, doctors
told police.On Friday, Darrel arrived at University Medical
Center after suffering a seizure. Watson told doctors the boy had
tripped and hit his head hard on a table’s wooden leg, the police report
said.But doctors said the boy’s injuries did not match Watson’s
story. When police approached Watson, she confessed to killing Darrel,
the report said.She told police she was frustrated she had to
care for the boy, instead of his mother, and when she shoved him, he hit
his head hard against a bed, the report said.Watson said she
heard a hollow thud come from the boy’s head, after which he began to
have a seizure, the report said.A neighbor reported
that Watson had approached her for help with the dying boy.“She
came down and told me that Darrell had a seizure and he wouldn’t wake
up,” the neighbor said. The woman said she had suspected abuse
because Watson treated Darrel differently than her 1-year-old daughter.“I
had an idea, but I didn’t really know,” the neighbor said. “You know
what I mean. I feel like if I had been there or done something else,
then he would still be here.”Watson was booked into jail for
murder by child abuse, police said.

I saw a show on NatGeo last night, about raccoons. How those mamas will fight to protect their babies! If a wild animal can behave like that, why not a seemingly educated human being?

A Las Vegas woman faces charges of
murder by child abuse in the death of her boyfriend's son, according to
an arrest report .

Kedria Watson, 27, told police she was the only
adult present June 4 when she pushed 3-year-old Darryl Jones III into a
wooden bed frame, according to a Metropolitan Police Department report
obtained Thursday. She was trying to "hurry him along so they could go
to the grocery store," she told police. The boy's father was
volunteering at a community center, she told police.
Watson told police that she heard a
"hollow thud" when the boy's head struck the frame.Darryl stood
up, but then fell down and had a seizure that lasted for two minutes, at
which time Darryl "started gurgling and white foam was coming out of
his mouth," the report said Watson told police.When asked why she
did not call 911 immediately, Watson told detectives she had been told
that seizure victims "get tired and need rest," according to the report.Watson
said she put Darryl on the bed, covering his face with cold towels and
leaving him to "nap."Between an hour and two hours later, Watson
told police she found Darryl was breathing but unresponsive. She told
police she tried to "shake" Darryl to wake him up, but he did not
respond.Watson called 911 and asked a neighbor to watch Darryl's
1-year-old sister while she went to the hospital with Darryl.Doctors
at University Medical Center placed Darryl on life support in critical
condition, police said. The boy had a portion of his skull removed to
relieve the swelling of his brain.On Monday, doctors determined
that Darryl had no brain activity, and he was removed from life support.
He died that same day.Watson, who previously had been held at
Clark County Detention Center on child abuse charges, was re-interviewed
and charged with murder.She had been arrested in 2008 and was on
probation for abusing Darryl with a belt, according the report.When
asked why she had abused Darryl, Watson told police the boy "does
stuff," such as soiling his pants and hiding the clothing in the closet.Watson
also told police Darryl frustrated her because the boy's biological
mother is a "dead beat" and she was forced to care for the boy .

Step mom accused of killing toddler, father left with questions

A toddler is dead And his step mom is the prime suspect. The boy's father speaks out in what police are calling a tragic case of child abuse.

The father says he's looking at his wife differently, now that she's charged in the death of his 3-year-old son. This is a difficult story that has torn a family apart.

Losing your child is painful enough, but a young father shares the confusion and surprise he felt when he found out who police charged with the murder.

"I loved everything about him man. He was just like me. He liked everything I do. He had to be involved in it," says Darryl Jones, Jr., father of the toddler.

He is still in shock and disbelief over the death.

"He liked playing basketball, but he really liked playing with his cars. He liked doing that with me a lot. It was like his favorite toy. That's all he liked doing is playing with cars. Playing with the hot wheels and the tracks and stuff," recalls Jones.

A police report says Kedria Watson, the boy's step mother, shoved him at home causing him to hit his head on the bed and pass out. Two hours later, police say Watson finally called 911.

Days later, Darryl is taken off life support and dies.

"I don't even know days are passing by. Everything is irrevelant right now. It don't mean nothing," says Jones.

Not only does Darryl's dad have to deal with the pain of losing his son at the hospital, but he says he's finding out who his wife really is.

"She played that mother role and everything was cool. I'm finding out so many lies she's told and she was a whole different person," says Jones.

The young father was not home at the time of the alleged abuse.

"She's saying she pushed him and he fell over. That's not what happened though," says Jones.

The father of the kid that played cars and loved Blues Clues says all he has left are empty questions and pain.

"I felt angry, hurt, sad. I felt suicidal a few times," says Jones.

The family hopes to raise enough money to hold a funeral service this Wednesday from 9am until 12pm at the Bunkers Funeral Home.
