Missing boy's birthday will be feted in Medford
September 09, 2010
A birthday observance will be held today in Medford for Kyron Horman, whose disappearance in the Portland area prompted massive searches.
Kyron's eighth birthday will be celebrated at 7 p.m. at West Main Church, 1701 W. Main St., Medford. Participants are encouraged to bring a red balloon for a balloon release planned during the party.
Supporters of the missing boy's family also plan a birthday party for him Sunday at the Family Fun Center & Bullwinkle's Restaurant in Wilsonville.
Kyron has been missing since June 4. His mother, Desiree Young, lives in Medford with her husband, Tony Young, a detective with the Medford Police Department. Kyron's father, Kaine Horman, lives in Portland.
His stepmother, Terri Moulton, who was the last to see him at Skyline School, remains at her parents' home in Roseburg. Police say she is the focus of the investigation into his disappearance but has not been charged or arrested.

Kyron Horman's family keeps up tradition of two birthday parties as the missing boy turns 8

Lynne Terry, The Oregonian
This year, as always, his blended family will host two birthday parties, one in Medford and another in the Portland area. They'll dish out chocolate cake, play his favorite tunes, read heartfelt cards and release bunches of red balloons to celebrate his favorite color. There may even be a few gifts.
But the birthday boy himself won't be there.
Kyron Horman, who was born eight years ago Thursday, has missed several milestones since he disappeared more than three months ago: Father's Day in June, the first day of school this week and now his birthday parties.
His parents will host them anyway.
"Regardless of where he is, I'm going to celebrate the fact that we brought him into this world," Kyron's father, Kaine Horman, told The Oregonian. "It will be hard him not being there, but we're going to do something that he loves to do."
That includes listening to "Abracadabra" by the Steve Miller Band, "Say" by John Mayer and "Fireflies" by Owl City -- three songs that will be played at his party in Medford, hosted by his mother, Desiree Young, at the West Main Church of Christ. That also includes putting around a mini-golf course at the Family Fun Center & Bullwinkle's Restaurant in Wilsonville, where a second party and fundraiser will take place Sunday.
At both, the focus will be the boy with a goofy grin who has captured hearts across the country since he disappeared from Skyline School in Portland on June 4. Investigators have focused on his stepmother, Terri Moulton Horman, who is living with her parents in Roseburg.
She has said nothing publicly about his disappearance. Her 16-year-old son, James, who first met Kyron as a baby, described his stepbrother as highly intelligent with a knack for math. Kyron was also timid but gained confidence with each landmark in his life.
The first big one came before his 2nd birthday when he got glasses.
"That was huge," said Kaine Horman. "He would fall down a lot when he was younger learning how to walk. And I don't think any of us correlated that with the fact that he couldn't see very well."
Once he put glasses on, Kyron's fuzzy world snapped into focus. "He got that grin on his face and started walking around looking at everything," Horman said.
His fears eased as well, Young said: "He didn't have separation anxiety as much after that."
Kyron was born about three weeks after his mother filed for divorce. As a baby, he attended day care and spent time with both parents, though Young maintained primary custody. That changed in 2004, when she sought medical treatment in Canada, giving Horman physical custody of Kyron.
When Young returned late that year strapped with medical bills, she moved to Medford to regroup with her family. Kyron stayed with his dad in the Portland area but visited his mom in Medford, where he has a Batman-themed room with toy collector cars and a yellow Labrador named Ernie.
"They're inseparable," Young said. "Ernie follows him everywhere."
In Medford, Kyron enjoys playing with his 7-year-old cousin Mayson, looking for bugs in the backyard, casting his fishing pole and going to family barbecues and on camping and boating trips.
Kyron also loves the Oregon Zoo, playing video games and going bowling with his dad, who took him to Seaside for one birthday. The highlight of the four-day trip, Horman said, was a hot rod show.
Horman, a software engineer at Intel, has always taken the day off for his son's birthday. This year, with Kyron missing, he can't sleep, feels scattered and is emotionally and mentally exhausted.
Tears fall daily -- for both parents. But they're determined to focus on the boy with infectious enthusiasm who performs silly stunts and makes them proud.
"He's not like other children," Young said. "He enjoys hard work. He likes to pull weeds. He likes to vacuum. He likes to clean the house."
Kyron leaps at opportunities to share work with his dad, too.
"He learned to do his own laundry," Horman said. "I don't know how many kids do their own laundry at 6. ... He also cleans his own dishes. He has enthusiasm even towards fundamental things. I'm always proud of him for that."
Before his 5th birthday, Kyron entered Skyline School with approval from his parents, his pediatrician and a psychologist.
He showed an interest in science and a talent for art, which he applied to projects on airplanes, bridges and the red-eyed tree frog display in the science fair the day he disappeared. His parents cherish his artwork, including a self-portrait that hangs in his blue bedroom full of toys in Northwest Portland.
"It's amazing for someone his age," Horman said.
At school, Kyron became more outgoing and adventurous. Once fearful of the water, he took swimming lessons, ventured down slides and swam underwater. He also played soccer, developing skills in teamwork.
"He grew a lot from the beginning of the season to the end," Young said.
But perhaps his biggest advance was in reading.
"It was very hard for him," Horman said. "He would like it if you read him a book, but him reading a book -- not so much."
Kyron went from testing below grade level to being slightly above.
"Now he reads me books," Horman said. "He's enthusiastic about it."
About a year ago, Kyron announced he wanted to be a police detective, investigating crimes like his stepdad, Tony Young, who works for Medford police.
The day Kyron disappeared, he was wearing a "CSI" T-shirt, though Desiree Young never let him watch such a graphic show.
She said organizing his birthday party has been tough. "It was an extremely difficult decision to make," she said. "But the way I look at it is ... if Kyron were to see it, I want him to know that he's loved. I want him to feel that we care. And that we're going to find him. I'm hoping we have a good turnout to show Kyron that everyone's caring for him."

Kyron Horman Missing: Case Review And Birthday Wishes To The Frog Prince
On what is Kyron Horman’s 8th Birthday, the Skyline School, where Kyron was scheduled to begin the third grade, is buzzing with the start of the years activities without him.
In response to the disappearance and presumed abduction of the bespectacled herpetologist; Skyline has implemented a myriad of mandatory safety features as well as a state of the art security camera system. While complete with facial recognition capability, one face it will not be recognizing today, is that of Kyron Horman.
Although missing since the morning of June 4, 2010, there have been no updates from the many State and Federal agencies participating in the criminal investigation of his disappearance since August 12, 2010.
Adding to the mounting concern about the status of Kyron’s fate are the words of his own parents, Kaine Horman and Desiree Young.
It is clear from Kaine and Desiree’s comments that they believe Terri Horman, Kyron’s step mom, is at least partially responsible for Kyron vanishing. While they stop short of naming any possible accomplices, Rod Underhill, the chief deputy district attorney of Multnomah County, Captain Jason Gates, Detective Bob O’Donnell of the Multnomah County Sheriff Office have sought the publics help to flush them out. Multnomah County Chief Deputy District Attorney Rod Underhill said a witness, or witnesses, have reported seeing someone else by the Hormans’ extended-cab pickup while it was parked in front of the school between 8:15 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. on June 4, the day Kyron disappeared. In what was characterized as a slip-up, methinks that that Kyron’s Mom told us that someone was actually Kyron.
While Terri Horman is holed up at her parents newly refinanced home in Roseburg and under the mortgage-sized retainer protection of Stephen Houze; she is awaiting the September 21st contempt hearing for allegedly violating an order that she not disclose the “sealed” reasoning for, or contents of, the current restraining order in effect against her.
Accomplice, Witness, Opportunist or Collateral Damage?
Rodolfo “Rudy” Estrada Sanchez
Rudy is the owner of RS Landscape Maintenance and the alleged former landscaper/ love interest of Terri Horman. He is also the man who says Terri Horman asked him to murder her husband Kaine late last year. Investigators clearly believed his story as it was the basis for an attempted sting on June 26th by MCSO including an undercover DEA agent. Sanchez, wearing a wire, demanded a $10,000 payment from Horman for services rendered, except Kaine was very much alive. As the information gleaned from Sanchez provided to Kaine Horman indicates this alleged “contract”discussion with his wife happened over 7 months ago, it is unclear what the payment demand could actually be for. Sanchez testified before the grand jury on August 4. While the content of his testimony is secret, the fact that whatever he testified to outside of pleading the “On the advice of counsel I plead the 5th and hereby assert all of it’s protections.” grants him a level of immunity, in addition to whatever he may or may not have already been granted by the District Attorney.
When reached at one of the numbers records show is billed in his brothers name, Jaime Estrada Sanchez, who uses the name Jaime Estrada on his carpet cleaning business website declined to comment to blinkoncrime.com and the number has since been disconnected.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a close family friend who has since been interviewed by the FBI, has confirmed that Terri Horman is pointing her finger directly at Sanchez. She has also stated that she and Sanchez had an altercation after she attempted to end their relationship in May which ended in a 911 call and a visit from Clackamas County Sheriff Office in the presence of Sanchez’s wife and children. While it did not result in any charges, Horman told the source that the landscaper was furious with her because he is not in the US legally. While blinkoncrime.com has not been able to verify the date of the alleged 911 call, we have been able to verify that Terri called her Mother immediately following the incident and told her that Kaine had found out about the landscaper she hired to do what she referred to as “her yardwork” and when she informed him that she could no longer use him because Kaine was making her fire him, he lunged at her with Kiara in her arms. Kaine Horman denies the couple ever hired the landscaper as well as any previous information as to his estranged wife’s possible dealings with Sanchez.
It should be noted that Mr. Sanchez has not been charged with any crime in this matter and local references to his business are highly complimentary. In fact, Jean Ann Van Krevelen a friend and “mentor” of Dede Spicher has used RS Landscape Maintenance on a few occasions, leaving positive reviews on the ServiceMaster listing which deleted his business from the site on 6/21/10. Heather Walters, owner of Rosemont Farm, which is not West Wind Farm, where Dede Spicher was working the morning of June 4th and out of reach by phone from approximately 90 minutes, has never met Terri Horman or heard of their family prior to Kyron’s disappearance. When I asked her if she knew Rudy Sanchez or if she ever hired his firm to work at WWF, she replied “not that I recall, no, but we did have a blackberry clean up a few years ago so it is possible.”
Anselmo Sanchez-Sanchez
As reported on blinkoncrime.com, Anselmo was booked into the MCSO on July 8, 2010 on a hold from the US Marshall Service. He was held until August () and returned to Federal custody in Sheridan. While residence records and a private post to blinkoncrime.com indicate the Sanchez’s know each other, at a minimum, it is unknown if Anselmo has any direct connection to this case. What is known, is that Anselmo Sanchez a/k/a Freddy Atristad Sanchez has been in Federal Custody since March 4, 2010.
Or has he?
Although records indicate that he was placed under post probation supervision by ICE on February 19, 2010, according to Mr. Sanchez-Sanchez Federal criminal docket after being “found in the US and apprehended” in August 2009” following a previous deportation in 2003, he was “administratively arrested” on February 23, 2010. A Federal Grand Jury’s subsequent indictment was issued on March 4 and he was immediately incarcerated.
Mr. Sanchez-Sanchez rap sheet includes convictions for rape, failure to register as a sex offender and a host of probation and parole violations prior to his deportation.
In what can only be categorized as a bizarre coincidence, Oregon BOP VINE network shows that on June 26, 2010, they very day of the “sting” involving Rudy Sanchez, Anselmo was transferred and released to “community supervision”. There is no record of either his transfer or his booking by MCSO July 8th on his docket. What is reflected on the record for June 21st, is the US Marshall Service requested a rescheduling of his plea hearing on July 1st - July 12th directly with the presiding judge outside of his Federal appointed defense attorney. Yep. Exparte. Mr. Sanchez attorney Allison Clark used the 7/12/10 court date to file a motion to quit the case. They have subsequently worked through their differences and were scheduled to appear yesterday, but a 4th continuance in the case was granted to reschedule for October 7, 2010. In that motion, Ms. Clark asserts that Mr. Sanchez has been in custody the entire time but that his records are difficult to retrieve so more time to prepare for trial is necessary. I’ll say.
Dede Spicher
Doppelganger. Organic Gardner. Jilted girlfriend and support network for Terri Horman.
Up until a few weeks ago, she was also very much the object of accusation by Desiree Young and Kaine Horman, as well as the investigators assigned to Kyron’s case. So much so, they released a flyer featuring the ginger ladies and the infamous white truck. LE has subsequently backed off of Spicher and publicly stated they do not believe it was her in the white truck in the lot of the Skyline School. Dede’s father is a semi-retired Klamath County Sheriff deputy. If it can be confirmed Spicher knew Kyron was missing on June 4th we have a very big problem.
Blinkoncrime.com is in receipt of a private post through a mutual friend of Dede’s in response to an article about Kyron’s disappearance from the school which was post on June 4th at 11:40PM
Spicher responded on June 5 at 7:44am: Holy Crap! I KNOW this boy!
Mutual Friend, June 5, 1:35PM: no way???!!! Really Dede?
Spicher: yes. My friend Terri is the step-mother mentioned in the article. It’s so shocking when something like this hits so close to home. < ?xml:namespace prefix ="" v />June 5 at 5:44pm
Michael Cook
The source of both information for the contempt filing and hundreds of sexts exchanged between he and Terri Horman following Kaine Horman’s filing for divorce and leaving the marital residence as advised by MCSO, Michael Cook was a high school classmate of Kaine Horman.
Mr. Cook is also one smarmy dude if his former spouse Shannon has anything to say about it.
Oddly, blinkoncrime.com has learned from an inside source that Cook was not called before the grand jury to testify. In the instant action for contempt, Kaine Horman’s attorney Laura Rackner specifically references the “sexting” and the text regarding Houze’s fee as information provided by law enforcement.
So, was he acting as an agent for le or is he himself under investigation?
Jason Wishert
William Jason Wishert is undoubtedly wishing he had not interjected himself in this case. Apparently new to the blogosphere via a request from Maxine Bernstein of the Oregonian, Mr. Wishert took to what he saw as his *nuveau*cause*celeb* status with moxy.
That was until he announced his appearance on the scaredmonkeys.net forum to answer questions about the case and cry the blues when he accused the Oregonian of using his rough notes to skewer Dede Spicher. According to Wishert the “not a lot of kissing but plenty of telling” memo was not supposed to be published. About 3 minutes into his introduction to his “sleuthing public” Wishert was asked why he spelled his name incorrectly and if he was indeed the son of convicted child porn possessor William Kent Wishart. In a really bad move, Mr. Wishert denied the allegation and retreated with his tail somewhere on his person.
Kent Wishart, former CEO of Graphic Sciences, is in Federal Custody for the next 4 years for possession of child porn and engaging in a file sharing subscription for same. Jason’s brother Grant is an employee of GS. All three Wishert’s hold numerous active and inactive business licenses throughout Oregon and Washington. Graphic Sciences has a Mexican affiliate office.
Both Jason and his brother James Grant have had numerous legal entanglements (editor’s note: say it just like Chief Margie with the flat “a”) and our attempts to substantiate Jason’s claims about court appointed child advocacy certifications have yet to be confirmed.
However, with his Uncle John Kerr, Jason Wishert is heavily involved in the Friends of Pimpollo Charity which sponsors various children issues and an orphanage in Mexico. FOP is a verified charity with a 50% tax deduction rate according to IRS Publication 78 in good standing, but they are years behind in their annual reporting.
Birthday Boy and America’s Frog Prince
Today, Kyron Horman’s eigth birthday, may not bring us any closer to where our frog prince is, but we do wish to extend our thoughts and prayers in celebration of his special day to his parents, friends and family. There are 2 celebrations for Kyron today. The picture below is an image of the birthday invitation chosen by his Mom, Desiree Young, and designed by scaredmonkeys poster Brandi.

Kaine Horman has voluntarily agreed to drop his motion to find his estranged wife in contempt of court stemming from the alleged sharing of a sealed restraining order.
A Sept. 21 hearing had been set on Kaine Horman's motion, which will now be canceled.
Court records do not explain why he's dropping the motion, but Kaine Horman and his estranged wife, Terri Moulton Horman, are set to meet in Multnomah County Circuit Court on Oct. 7 to argue over two other pending motions.
Terri Horman's divorce attorney, Peter Bunch, is seeking to hold in abeyance any discussion of dividing property, financial, child custody or parental matters in the divorce during the criminal investigation into missing Kyron Horman, her stepson. Although she has not been named as a suspect or a person of interest in the case, investigators have focused on her and her friends.
Kaine Horman is contesting any delay, and also wants to find out the source of the money Terri Horman has paid to retain high-profile criminal defense attorney Stephen Houze.
Kyron was last seen June 4 at Skyline School after Terri Horman, had taken the 7-year-old to school early for a science fair. She told authorities she last saw him walking to his second-grade classroom about 8:45 a.m.
Kaine Horman filed for divorce and a restraining order on June 28 after authorities told him that a landscaper had alleged that Terri Horman tried to hire him to kill her husband in late 2009. The restraining order was initially sealed, and Kaine alleged in court papers that Terri shared the material with a high school friend of his, Michael Cook, whom she was "sexting" days after Kaine Horman had moved out.

Multnomah County focuses investigation into disappearance of Kyron Horman
A photo posted on his stepmother's Facebook page shows Kyron Horman in front of his science fair project, wearing the "CSI" T-shirt he was last seen in.
The investigation into the disappearance of Kyron Horman is changing from a wide-ranging affair to a concentrated group of detectives, according to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.
A task force is being formed with a select group of investigators dedicated to the case, said Lt. Mary Lindstrand, spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office.
Until now, the sheriff’s office has drawn on a wide range of resources, including the FBI and other federal agencies and Portland-area law enforcement agencies, with various officers working on different aspects of the case at different times.
But now the strategy is shifting, Lindstrand said.
“This case is further along than most people realize,” she said.
She indicated that the task force could include members from the Multnomah County Major Crimes Team and the FBI, which have been involved in the investigation from the outset.
Earlier today, Sheriff Dan Staton and Multnomah County District Attorney Michael Schrunk spoke about the reorganization during a panel discussion at the Portland Business Alliance.
Schrunk said investigators are prepared for a long-haul.
"There is no one standing there with a smoking gun," Schrunk said in a telephone interview. "You’ve got nearly 4,000 different leads. This is not one where the investigation and prosecution all occurs in 60 minutes" -- like a television program.
But the county fully expects a conclusion.
"We are going to try this case," Schrunk said.
Horman disappeared June 4 from Skyline School during a morning science fair. No one has been arrested or even named a person of interest though Terri Moulton Horman, Horman’s stepmother, remains the focus of the investigation.

Multnomah County Sheriff Dan Staton said they would be moving to a task-force, more like a "business plan," to better utilize resources in the case and release some in order to maintain the effectiveness of the department, in a news conference Wednesday afternoon.
Staton said there had been "significant movements" in the 15-week investigation and there was a more definitive scope, allowing them to not be as broad in their efforts.
When asked if people would be shocked to find out what they know Staton took a long silence.
"I know Im taking a long pause on that I have to think through that answer. I think there are things that come out of this investigation that will surprise you, that you'll think about later on when it's over. We have a knowledge of things we don't want to know about ... of things we wish we didn't know," he added.
He said investigators were focusing on selective targets in the case that focus would help "support a conclusion." Investigators need to close off possibly dead end tips in the case Staton labeled "frivolous."
Kyron disappeared from Skyline Elementary in NW Portland on June 4, sparking the largest search in Oregon's history. No suspects or persons of interest have been named the case.
Staton said he was briefed with details from prosecutors last Friday and felt comfortable proceeding on the course they were on.
"Our resources are limited and so are Portland's. Eventually you have to reach out for support and help," he said.
"I don't want the family to believe we are changing this investigation in any way, shape or form ... I think all the investigators involved believe there is going to be an outcome in this," Staton said.
"A lot of the things we looked at or suspected we no longer look at, we no longer suspect them," Staton said, referring to more than 3,000 tips taken in the case. "A number of the leads have been significant."
Staton said a big frustration was that all tips needed to be reviewed and documented, taking up a large part of their time.
"There are so many elements in this I can't even begin to comment on," Staton said. "To this date, I've had nothing that's come into me from ... detectives ... that would lead me to believe that we shouldn't proceed forward."
"We have hit a critical phase," Staton said, adding that not going to a task force model would critically affect the department's functionality.
He emphasized that they were not scaling back or moving to a cold-case type investigation. The FBI would remain active, along with Port of Portland Police, Portland Police, Fairview and Troutdale departments. Staton added that Multnomah County would play about a 30 percent role.
Possibly the end of the week or next week could see more details released as the task force consisting of between eight and ten members is in place.
Kaine Horman and Kyron's mother Desiree Young were set to appear on the Chicago set of the Oprah Winfrey show Thursday to tell their story.
An October 7 hearing is set for Kaine's divorce petition with Kyron's step-mother Terri Moulton-Horman. Terri has been a focus of investigators in the case and accused by Kaine and Desiree of concealing information.

Kyron Horman case: Sheriff Staton announces task force
Posted on September 16th, 2010 by Valhall
Excerpt:
After 15 weeks of investigation into the disappearance of 7-year-old Kyron Horman, the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) has spent more than one million dollars in following up as many as 4000 tips. During that period of time the investigation has involved as many as 25 detectives from various Oregon law enforcement agencies and federal agencies, but the majority of manpower has come from the MCSO organization pulling in detectives from MCSO’s felony-warrant unit, patrol division, and special-investigations unit which pursues drug-related crimes. Staton is going to scale back his department’s human resource investment now that “several doors have been closed” in the investigation and go to an 8 to 10 man task force which includes 2 detectives and a technician from MCSO combined with resources from local law enforcement agencies (such as Portland city police department) and the FBI. He’s doing this because the large MCSO human resource investment cannot continue without detriment to his department’s commitment to the citizens of Multnomah county. In other words, there are still other crimes being committed in Multnomah County, and he has a mandate to investigate those as well.

Re: KYRON HORMAN - 7 yo (2010) - Portland OR - Thread #2
A former Multnomah County sheriff said a task force could have been more useful earlier in the investigation into Kyron Horman's disappearance.Earlier this week, Sheriff Dan Staton announced he plans to reorganize resources in the criminal investigation and create a smaller and more focused task force.Bernie Giusto said Friday the new task force speaks volumes about the case.“Well, I think more than anything it means there’s no place to go right away," he said. When he was Gresham police chief in the late 1990s, Giusto said he created a task force in a missing child case shortly after the investigation started. The Kyron task force is coming very late in the game, he said."Task forces are usually a greater benefit when they start the investigation because, when they start in the middle, they’re not going to start in the middle, they’re going to start over again," Giusto said.Giusto said he does not know details about the criminal investigation into Kyron's disappearance, but he thinks mistakes have been made. He said too much emphasis has been placed on Kyron's stepmother, Terri Horman, and other potential suspects haven’t been considered.Giusto also said he isn't confident enough is being done to gather physical evidence."I notice this investigation is a little short on search warrants for different places," Giusto said. "I think there’s been a computer or two seized, but that will tell you that that nobody’s quite clear, after the school, where else to check."Giusto said he's always been more vocal than other law enforcement officials, but said he is surprised by how tight-lipped Staton has been about the case."I believe there are a couple other avenues you could take and that really is better communication with the public. There’s no reason now not to lay out specifics in this case. What can it harm?" he said.Kyron vanished from Skyline School on June 4. Investigators haven't announced any suspects or evidence in the case.

I had read this yesterday and one thing to remember, Bernie is not on this case and does not know the evidence and Kaine cannot testify against his wife. The divorce is on it's way and I believe when this event is concluded many, many events will happen in behalf of Kyron.
So if things seem slow, TH has this very small ace for a very short while.
God is blessing you Kyron

Justice is coming for Kyron!
