Restaurant raises $14,000 for Kyron Horman investigation

Godfather's Pizza held a fundraiser Wednesday at Portland and Vancouver area locations for the Kyron Horman investigation.

Both Kaine Horman and Desiree Horman, Kyron's parents, were on hand at the Bethany location.

The pizza company estimates its parlors raised $14,000 dollars yesterday for the search.

A check will be presented Friday at noon at the Godfather's Baseline and Cornelius Pass restaurant to Kaine Horman.

PORTLAND – The father of missing seven-year-old Kaine Horman spoke to parents during a private meeting at Skyline Elementary School Thursday.

Kaine Horman told KGW the school held the meeting in order to explain new policies to parents following Kaine’s disappearance at the end of the last school year.

School officials answered parents’ questions and went over all the changes, including a new security camera system donated by a local business owner.

Kaine told KGW he spoke briefly at the meeting, and assured parents their kids would be safe.

"It's going to be tough, but I think what they got planned for the first day and the procedures and things that they're working on, I think it's outstanding,” Kaine said. “I think they've made some big adjustments and it was a safe school before, and now it's probably going to be one of the safest schools in the state."

Classes at Skyline resume on Tuesday.

Meantime, Kaine was scheduled to receive a $14,000 check on Friday afternoon, from a recent fundraiser at Godfather’s Pizza. The money will help pay for the search effort for Kyron.

eighth birthday. His parents are planning community events in Medford
and the Portland area.

Events Planned For Missing Boy's 8th Birthday

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Kyron Horman's parents said they are planning celebrations for the missing boy's upcoming eighth birthday on Thursday.

One event will take place in Medford, where Kyron's biological mother lives, on Thursday.

Another is planned for Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Wilsonville Family Fun Center and Bullwinkle's Restaurant.

Proceeds from that event will go to the Kyron Horman Foundation, and there will be free digital fingerprinting, free DNA kits and child safety information at the event.

If you ask me there's TOO MUCH time and energy being devoted to fences, fundraisers, backpacks and supplies for school and now birthday parties. IMHO, all these energies would be much better spent on locating Kyron. This thing is more messed up than I can fathom.

I too find it a little messed up. I can understand them trying to keep up faith. But the ugly truth is..hes not alive IMO. This is on the freaky/weird/disturbing side to me. And its only going to hurt them more having a birthday party for him without him being there. Thats what I am not understanding. They are putting themselves thru even more heartache by doing this whether they realize it or not

Exactly, even if by some miracle he is found alive do they think he'll be back at school and playing soccer the next day? Lord knows what he might be going through if alive. Is the school going to leave an empty desk there with his name on it and traumatize the other kids further too? I agree with Tom. All these hours spent on weird stuff should be spent searching for Kyron. I would spend every single moment I could looking for his remains while I let LE look for him alive if that was me in their shoes.

School Saves a Desk for Missing Kyron Horman

Like many parents this time of year, Kaine Horman went shopping for
school supplies, buying everything needed for his son Kyron to start the
third grade.


"They're all in his backpack in his room, ready to go. He's on
the teachers' roster. They have his desk waiting. Everything is ready
for him," says Horman, 36.


But Kyron, who turns 8 on Thursday, wasn't there for the first
day of school Tuesday. The boy with the big glasses and toothy smile vanished June 4 from his Portland-area school. His stepmother Terri Moulton Horman has become the focus of the investigation but she has never been named a suspect.

As students return to school from summer vacation, a desk will be waiting
for Kyron, says Matt Shelby, spokesman for the Portland School District.


"He's enrolled as a student. There's a spot there waiting for
him," says Shelby, who adds that school policy states that a child is
withdrawn from school after missing 10 consecutive days. "The school is
ready for Kyron and we all hope he shows up."

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — As a new school year began at Portland's Skyline School, the father of a missing boy last seen at that school on June 4 joined volunteers working on a nearby "Wall of Hope" in honor of his son.

Kaine Horman helped reassemble the chain link fence festooned with cards and messages for little Kyron Horman. The collection was moved late last month from outside Skyline School to a nearby Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue station. On Tuesday, it was set up on new posts in a semicircle near the station.

Portland Public School district spokesman Matt Shelby says the first day of classes at Skyline "felt like a normal school day, and that's really the goal."

Kyron's eighth birthday is Thursday.

I agree Kiwimom, it has been too quiet concerning the seach for Kyron. I pray something will break soon. LE has something going on, I have never seen a case where LE is so quiet about every detail of a case. With FBI and SS also investigating Kyron's disappearance, there is alot more going on with this case than we know. All the bits and pieces from other sources than LE are not reliable, one minute the source is online and the next, either it has changed or gone. Extremely frustrating. The Wall of Hope, the desk, the B party are just keeping Kyron in the news, but no news.

Yes, true and I agree, however LE are the ones who said in the beginning this was an isolated incident and not that Kaine and Desiree had an okay by LE for all the news conference info on TH, but I do not believe either parent takes a step or action without their lawyers and LE knowing about it beforehand.
Kaine could of never got the restraining order without proof of TH's actions. Either way, sooner or later there is a ship sunk for TH. And if Kyron doesn't appear soon, there will be "no plea deals".
And the prosecutor has to have a certain amount of evidence before a GJ can even be called together.
How hard is it to get all dolled up and appear in public when one does not even have to speak? It's not! As Desiree stated, TH is at a crossroad, of a sunk ship.

Where are you little Friend, God, bring Kyron home.

Poster's Note: Now, other folks are climbing on the Kyron Birthday Party Bandwagon! Sheesh!

It’s only fitting that on the occasion of Kyron Horman’s eighth birthday a party should be held at his favorite entertainment spot.

Horman was 7 when he went missing on June 4 from Skyline Elementary School in Portland. Now, he will be the guest of honor at his own birthday party this coming Sunday afternoon at the Family Fun Center and Bullwinkle’s Restaurant in Wilsonville.

Hosted and organized by several local women who run the “Missing Kyron Horman” Facebook page, the party will run from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and will feature a $15 unlimited wristband that will allow the user access to virtually any attraction.

The event already has garnered public attention across the Portland metro area, helped in part by the high-profile nature of Horman’s disappearance and the subsequent police investigation. Now, Wilsonville resident Judy Maher is hoping to tap into the wide public interest generated by the case to help the Horman family move forward with their own investigation and other costs that have resulted from the situation.

“Myself and a friend started the Facebook, and we’ve just been keeping it going,” said Maher, who was involved for years with the Child Seek Network, a nationally-known non-profit group dedicated to assisting families with missing children. “Through Facebook we made contact with the Hormans, and there are so many people wanting to do fundraisers. I had started thinking about the birthday and we wanted to do something special.”

Being a Wilsonville resident, Maher’s thoughts quickly turned to the Family Fun Center, one of the most popular childrens’ destinations in the region.

“They were like, ‘Sure,’” she said. “This is going to be huge. It’s grown from my idea at Bullwinkle’s to the point where now I’ve got people like (food distribution giant) Sysco involved. They’re donating all the food.”

Other activities will include a Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office canine unit, free digital fingerprinting for children, DNA kits and much more.

“We’re just hosting it and offering a special deal,” said Fun Center representative Melissa McLean. “But there are other things that are going on, like a cake celebration and a child safety course. When he went missing, the FBI came down and interviewed our GM, and they questioned him and that’s when we found out it was one of his favorite places.”

The event is just one of several recent fund raising and other efforts on Kyron’s behalf.

For instance here will be a balloon release tonight in Medford, where his mother lives, while Portland-area Godfather’s Pizza restaurants recently raised money for Multnomah County search and rescue teams. In addition, volunteers erected a “Wall of Hope” on a chain link fence outside Skyline Elementary School last week, while Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue personnel ultimately carried sections of the same fence to TVFR Station 368, just down the road from the school.

Still, Maher envisions the Family Fun Center as the epicenter of the ongoing effort.

“There are people who want to focus on the negative, but we want this day to be a Kyron day,” she said. “We want his parents to be able to celebrate their son, smile and have a positive day and feel that everybody is hopeful along with them. It’s going to be an awesome time.”
