Missing Mom - "Baby Jacob Michael" - Newborn - Corpus Christi TX
The search for the mother of an abandoned baby boy continues tonight. As
we reported, the baby was left in a stranger's car yesterday, and
ultimately taken to a fire station. Hospital staff are now calling the
newborn "Baby Jacob Michael." Jacob Michael remains in the hospital for
observation, but at last report he is doing well. Though he is still at
Driscoll Children's Hospital, he is now in the care of Child Protective
Services. A judge signed an emergency order this afternoon making CPS
his care taker. Right now the agency is actively searching for his
family and offering their help. "We understand that if something is
going on in that families life. That mother's life that was so traumatic
that she felt like she had to give up her child. There may be other
things that are going on in her life that we can assist her with and
help her with through the department and services," said John Lennan
with CPS. Yesterday morning the baby was found outside a laundromat at
15th and Morgan and turned in at a nearby fire station. Firefighters
say he appeared healthy and no more than a day or two old. Now CPS says
once Jacob Michael is medically cleared, he will be going to a foster
home while the search for his family is ongoing. If you have any
information about his family you can contact CPS at 854-2011. If the
child's biological family can't be located he could ultimately go to an
adoptive family. Lennan said, "If no mother is ever found and no family
is ever identified then the child would be eligible for adoption but
that is a long way off. Right now we are in the infancy of this case
and we would really like to try and find the mother to see if there is
something we can do to help the mother and help the family." The
police department is also looking for the mother. They say she could
face criminal charges for leaving the baby. Right now a court hearing is
set for September 13th to determine where the child will ultimately go
if his biological family is not found.
