Amber Alert: Detroit police looking for child, 2, after parents' car is stolen

Josh Katzenstein/ The Detroit News

December 02. 2011 2:32PM

Detroit— Police are in the midst of "a wide search" for a
2-year-old girl who went missing Friday morning after her father's car
was reportedly carjacked.

An Amber Alert has been issued for
Bianca Jones. She was last seen in a silver 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis
that was stolen at Brush and Custer streets at 9:20 a.m. Friday, just
north of East Grand Boulevard, police said.

Officers at Brush and
Custer said several officers have been dispatched across the city to
look for Bianca. Police later discovered the vehicle she was inside
running in an alley west of Beaubien, between Euclid and Philadelphia,
Detroit Police Sgt. Eren Stephens said.

Her parents, father Deandre Lane, 32, and mother Banika Jones, have
told police their vehicle was robbed at gunpoint. Bianca's parents were
talking with police Friday afternoon near where the car was stolen. The
girl's father declined comment to the media before leaving in an
unmarked police vehicle.

Police say their suspect is a black
male, 25-30 years old with a medium complexion and about 6-feet tall at
190 pounds. He's wearing a black shirt, black pants and has a 5 o'clock
shadow. He also has a brown and black baseball-style hat. Bianca was
wearing a purple jacket with gold trim, pink tights and pink shoes.
She's described as being 2-foot-five, 25 pounds and having a light
complexion.

According to the alert, the "suspect vehicle was last
seen traveling northbound on John R. near East Grand Boulevard in a
small red passenger car." The car may have front-end damage.

Police Chief Ralph Godbee said the department is using every available
resource to locate Bianca, including the K-9 unit and Violent Crimes
Task Force, a partnership of several law enforcement groups, including
the FBI.

"The most important thing right now for us is to locate
2-year-old Bianca Jones," Godbee said. "A safe return is of the utmost
importance to us."

Anyone with information is asked to call (313) 596-1340 or Crime Stoppers at (800) Speak-Up.

I am smelling something fishy here.
Most carjackings do not occur in broad daylight at the tail end of rush hour. More than 90% of the time these carnappers want nothing to do with a kidnapping charge so they usually let the tyke go. Hmmmm? Another Sky Metalwala?

Detroit Police and family friends are continuing their aggressive
search for a 2-year old girl, Bianca Jones, who was reportedly
kidnapped during a carjacking this morning near the city’s North End.

According to police, Deandre Lane, 32, said he was in his silver Mercury
Marquis with his daughter in the back when he was carjacked at Brush
and Custer at 10:10 a.m. Police Sgt. Eren Stephens said Lane was leaving
his home on Custer when the incident occurred.

Within 10 minutes, the car was found at Beaubien and Philadelphia, less
than a mile away from where the car was stolen -- but the child was
gone, police said.

Bianca Jones is black, about 25 pounds, with braids in her hair and was
wearing either a pink or purple coat with rhinestones or beads on it,
pink shoes and pink tights. The girl’s uncle, Olando Jones, said Lane
was on his way to the girl’s mother’s house to pick up clothing for the
girl who was to stay with Lane for a week.

An Amber Alert has been issued for Bianca.

“She is very intelligent,” said Olando Jones, 20. “She’s so smart and can speak and she’s really good and loves to read.”

Jones, said his sister Banika Jones, 32, and the girl’s father have a good relationship and that Lane is like a family member

Meanwhile, friends of the family are passing out flyers of the missing
girl at businesses Woodward, including the Burger King near the Central
District police station.
Officers are mobilized in an alley west
of Beaubien at Philadelphia, where the vehicle was found. Lane’s
Mercury Marquis was towed from the scene just after 2 p.m.

About
75 officers -- including Police Chief Ralph Godbee Jr. — are searching
in vacant homes in the area. A police tracking dog was used, but was
unable to find the carjackers. Godbee is expected to address hold a news
conference later this afternoon.

“We’re asking the public
or anyone who may know anything or be privy to any information on
Bianca’s whereabouts, we really need someone to give the Detroit Police
Department a call at 313-596-2555,” Godbee said.

Police said
the search area is from Woodward to the west to I-75 to the east and
from to Grand Boulevard to the south to Pingree to the north.

Mounted
police officers also have joined the effort. There are currently two
officers on horseback, with two more on the way. Sitting on his horse at
the intersection of Beaubian and East Philadelphia, Sgt. Erik Eide says
they have been patrolling the alleys in the area, something that is
their specialty. They can get into the alleys easier than officers in
squad cars.

Stephens said the carjackers told the father there
was a problem with his taillight, and when he got out to look, they
stole his vehicle.

According to police, two people were
involved in the carjacking. One is described as a black man,
6-foot-tall, 185 pounds, wearing a black top and black pants, with a
mustache and beard that resembled a 5 o’clock shadow, police said.

The
man was last seen traveling northbound on John R near East Grand
Boulevard in a small red car, possibly with front-end damage, according
to the Amber Alert.

The other suspect was driving another vehicle, police said.
The girl’s mother was not in the vehicle.
Both parents are being questioned by police at the family’s home on Custer.
“Time
is of the essence. Every minute that ticks without us knowing where
with Bianca is, it just gives me greater concern,” Godbee said.

Coming
out of the home on Custer between Brush and John R, Olando Jones,
pleaded through tears for whomever took his niece to please return her
or drop her off safely at an area hospital or church.

“I want
to help but I literally feel helpless, like there’s nothing I can do,”
Olando Jones said. “And I hate this feeling because I’m very upset and
never experienced this before.”

Jones said Bianca celebrated her 2nd birthday last week adding that shares her birth month with her mother and grandmother.

“I
love you and I’m sorry this happened to you,” Jones tearfully said
about Bianca. “I wish I could have been there and I pray to see you
again.”

I hate to bring this up but 2 years old is THE prime age for miscreants to do harm to their charges.
I have studied enough of these cases to know that "the terrible twos" are terrible for what can happen to these young kiddos.
Continue the search but let another team of coppers really see if that child was ever in the car in the first place.
Lord, how I hope I am wrong....

This is a pattern we are seeing all too often. It is an epidemic with two year olds. I am beginning to wonder if this wasn't all fomented from the Caylee case. Blame it on a mysterious person. Create a somewhat believable story. Stick to it until the house of cards falls down. In the meantime, the missing is becoming harder to locate as the evidence slowly disappears. Just go back to the Missing Children's page and look at all of these stories with a similar MO.

The search for missing Bianca Jones continues and remains "priority one," according to a statement released today by Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee.

Detroit police, along with the FBI, Michigan State Police, Wayne County Sheriff's Office and several community groups, continue their search throughout the city for Bianca, who was reportedly taken during a carjacking in Detroit's North End area. Bianca's father, Deandre Lane, 32, first reported her missing on Friday.

“The Detroit Police Department will not comment on the quantity nor the quality of any evidence or information we have gathered to date,” Godbee said in the statement. “However, in the interest of allaying some of the fears of the public regarding the apparent randomness of Bianca's disappearance, the authenticity and credibility of the original version of events is under intense scrutiny by our investigative team.”

Godbee continues to ask for the public’s help in locating the missing girl.

Anyone with tips regarding Bianca Jones or her possible whereabouts is asked to call 1-800-SPEAK-UP or 313-596-2260.

Detroit— The father of a missing 2-year-old girl has hired an
attorney and has stopped cooperating with investigators, a police source
told The Detroit News.
Investigators have been working to
corroborate the story told by Dandre Lane, father of Bianca Jones, who
claimed he was carjacked at gunpoint Friday morning with his daughter
still in the backseat of his 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis near Brush and
Carter streets, just north of East Grand Boulevard.
The car was recovered a few minutes after police responded to the call, but Bianca was gone.

Police have been holding Lane on an outstanding traffic warrant while
they investigate whether his story checks out. The FBI flew a polygraph
expert into Detroit. A source told The News that Lane scored poorly
when asked two specific questions: "Did you have anything to do with her
disappearance?" and "Do you know where she is now?"
It took Lane
nearly an hour to come up with a description of the man he said
carjacked him, sources said. Lane appeared to be cooperative during the
early stages of the investigation, but a source told The News Monday
afternoon: "He lawyered up and quit talking."
FBI agents searched
for evidence Monday morning at Jones' home on Detroit's east side.
Police also took several items from Lane's home on Mitchell Street near
Seven Mile Road during searches Friday and Saturday, but have not yet
found anything of evidentiary value, sources said.
Meanwhile,
investigators have obtained surveillance camera footage in an attempt to
corroborate Lane's carjacking report, sources said.
Lane is seen on a school surveillance tape dropping off a 15-year-old nephew at approximately 8:10 a.m. Friday.
Police interviewed the nephew, who said Bianca was in the car when he arrived at school.
Investigators
also have interviewed witnesses who reported seeing Lane between 8 a.m.
and when he reported his daughter missing around 10 a.m. Friday.
One
witness reported seeing Lane running from the scene of the carjacking.
Lane was carrying a firearm, according to the source.
The search
for Bianca, meanwhile, intensified Monday morning with an army of
volunteers helping police canvass the girl's neighborhood.
As
many as two dozen Detroiters armed with thick walking sticks, rain coats
and calling out for baby Bianca canvassed East Side blocks in windy,
rainy conditions, all hoping to find the little girl.
Police
mobilized the crowd at Metropolitan United Methodist Church and led a
caravan of about a dozen cars to Philadelphia Street, near I-75.
Volunteers
trudged through vacant lots, thick with weeds, burrs and trash, and
used walking sticks to poke into piles of debris.
Volunteer Gordon Jones, 45, of Detroit hoped for the best but braced for the worst.
"If
it were my daughter, I would be looking anywhere and everywhere," he
said, as he looked toward a swathe of abandoned buildings.
Jones,
a contractor by trade, put his skills to work this morning, entering
whatever abandoned home he could access. His flannel shirt covered in
burrs and hands protected by workers gloves, he used a flashlight to
peer under the porch of a two-story, boarded-up white house whose
exterior was riddled with discarded couch cushions and rotting
furniture.
"My heart told me to go where other people don't want to go," he said.
Accompanying
the searchers were law enforcement officials from Detroit and the FBI.
Some walked with the volunteers wearing yellow ponchos.
Others
drove slowly down Philadelphia in a marked police van, lights flashing,
to keep an eye on any progress. One officer ran toward I-75 on
Philadelphia with a burly bloodhound by his side.
Several of the
volunteers, including Jones, said it was a call to action by community
organizer Tasha Harris that prompted them to brave the weather today to
help in the search for Bianca.
Harris, 29, blogged through the
night on her site, www.detroithousewives.net asking that people get
involved with the canvassing efforts. Her site and organization of the
same name helps at-risk youth stay focused, she said.
Walking
with a cane and wearing a black fur coat, Harris said she might not get
to physically aid as much as others but was pleased with the response to
her blog posts.
"It could have been any one of our children. I
instantly felt a connection with the mother," said Jones, herself a
mother of two daughters, 10 and 11. "A mother's love goes so far and so
deep."
Police Chief Ralph Godbee said Sunday investigators are
checking Lane's story. "In the interest of allaying some of the fears of
the public regarding the apparent randomness of Bianca's disappearance,
the authenticity and credibility of the original version of events is
under intense scrutiny by our investigative team," he said in a
statement.
Lane, freed from prison in 2009 after serving two years on firearm and drug charges, is being held on an unrelated warrant.
He took a lie detector test Friday. A police source said he failed.
Police
released an artist's sketch based on Lane's description of one of the
two men he said carjacked him: A 6-foot-tall, 190-pound black man, 25-30
years old with a medium complexion, wearing a black shirt and black
pants. Lane said the man had 5 o'clock shadow and wore a brown and black
ball cap.
Bianca, 2 feet, 5 inches tall and 25 pounds with a
light complexion, had a purple jacket with gold trim, pink tights and
pink shoes.
Police ask anyone with information to call Crime
Stoppers of Michigan at (800) SPEAK-UP or the Detroit Police Homicide
Section at (313) 596-2260.
"The search for Bianca Jones is ongoing and continues to be the highest priority," Godbee said.
Authorities
ask volunteer searchers to gather starting at 10 a.m. today at
Metropolitan United Methodist Church. Citizens will be required to sign
up before joining patrols looking for Bianca, police Sgt. Eren Stephens
said.

BIANCA JONES - 2 yo (12/2011) - Detroit MI Empty Re: BIANCA JONES - 2 yo (12/2011) - Detroit MI

Post by kiwimom Mon Dec 05, 2011 11:53 pm

DETROIT (AP) — Stepping gingerly among mounds of discarded tires,
piles of soggy clothing and nail-pierced wood boards, Makibla Gideon's
head swept from side to side in search of a purple toddler's jacket or
pink shirt — any remnant that could have been worn by a 2-year-old
Detroit girl whose father claims was taken during carjacking.
"You
have to put all that aside when it comes to a precious little girl,"
said the 39-year-old Gideon, barely avoiding oily pools of filthy rain
water in one of dozens of alleys not far from where Bianca Jones is
reported to have last been seen.
More than three dozen volunteers
searching for Bianca fanned out in small groups of five to 10 Monday
morning through the North End neighborhood, while police continued to
pore over D'Andre Lane's version of how his car was taken during a
robbery Friday morning with his daughter in the rear seat.
"If it
was my son or me missing I would want somebody looking for me," said
Gideon, moments before peering inside a trash-filled and nearly
collapsed garage only blocks from where police found Lane's car.
She
and others who canvassed the area amid 30-degree temperatures that
eventually gave way to snow returned a couple hours later to
Metropolitan United Methodist Church, many tired but vowing to try again
Tuesday if necessary.
Lane, 32, was being held in nearby Oakland
County on an outstanding warrant from an unrelated case. But
Undersheriff Mike McCabe said Monday afternoon that Lane had been
released.
Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee said Sunday
investigators were questioning the truthfulness of Lane's story. Police
also searched his home Monday morning, but declined to provide details.
No suspects have been identified related to the alleged carjacking.
"The
search for Bianca Jones is ongoing and continues to be of the highest
priority relative to our commitment of dedicated resources to this
case," Godbee said in a statement. "The Detroit Police Department will
not comment on the quantity nor the quality of any evidence or
information we have gathered to date. However, in the interest of
allaying some of the fears of the public regarding the apparent
randomness of Bianca's disappearance, the authenticity and credibility
of the original version of events is under intense scrutiny by our
investigative team."
Banika Jones, the girl's mother, said before
the search began that she last saw her daughter Nov. 26, when family and
friends celebrated her birthday. Jones said Lane had taken Bianca to
see a movie, brought her back to her mother's house for the party and
then the girl left with her father.
"Please continue to keep
searching for Bianca," Banika Jones said. "We love her and we want her
home. Bianca, Mommy has lots and lots of gingerbread men for you when
you get home."
According to Michigan prison records, Lane was
jailed for more than three years on drug and firearm possession charges
stemming from a 2003 arrest and was paroled in 2007. He also served a
more than four-year probation starting in 1996 after being convicted of
assault with intent to commit armed robbery and a conspiracy charge.
A
pre-sentencing investigation report from 2007 shows that Lane, a father
of three other children from three previous relationships
, sought to
shield his incarceration from his children. A probation officer wrote
that Lane did not want his children to come to see him in prison because
it was not a place for them to visit.
Banika Jones said Lane has a
good relationship with Bianca, who is described as 2 feet, 5 inches
tall and weighing about 25 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair.
"He
has unfettered access to her; welcome to come anytime," she said. "He's
never been anything but loving and committed to her. I know he probably
wants to see Bianca home as much as I do.
"I have no information
on the investigation. My focus is on finding Bianca. That is what I'm
driven to do right now is bring my daughter home. I just want to see
Bianca again.
"We are looking for Bianca. We are trying to find her. We are going to bring Bianca home."
Lane has been close to the Jones family for years, according to Kelly Jones, Banika's sister.
"They were never officially in a relationship" and there was no "bad blood," Kelly Jones said of Lane and Banika.
"There was no problem and now Bianca's gone. Let's just find her," Kelly Jones said.
Locating a child that some fear is somewhere shivering in the cold is what prompted Michelle Carter to join the search Monday.
"It
was cold," Carter said after returning with others to Metropolitan
United Methodist Church. "We went through the alleys. We searched
porches, under debris, moved bags and went through trash. We called
Bianca's name."
The 39-year-old nail salon owner refused to think the worst and admitted to having no idea what Bianca's mother may be feeling.
"I don't want to imagine. No," Carter said. "Being a mother and not even knowing where your child is ... I know is devastating."

Federal agents raid home of missing Detroit girl
Second search of the home in as many days

Published On: Dec 06 2011 09:07:46 AM EST

DETROIT -
Police and volunteers are continuing their search for 2-year-old Bianca Jones who has been missing since Friday.

Early Tuesday morning, Federal agents, State Police and Detroit Police officers raided father, Dandre Lane's, home on Detroit's east side. It marked the second time in 2 days that police have searched for evidence inside the house.

Lane told police he was carjacked Friday morning and that the thieves took of with Bianca still strapped in the back seat of the car.

Authorities have recovered the car with an empty child seat.

Detroit police Chief Ralph Godbee says investigators question the truthfulness of Lane's story.

The Oakland County jail released Lane Monday.

Defense lawyer Terry L. Johnson says reports Lane isn't aiding police are untrue.

Johnson says his client will continue helping investigators and hopes for his daughter's safe return.

Michigan prison records show Lane was imprisoned three years in a 2003 drug and firearms case and also has a robbery conspiracy conviction.

BIANCA JONES - 2 yo (12/2011) - Detroit MI Empty Re: BIANCA JONES - 2 yo (12/2011) - Detroit MI

Post by TomTerrific0420 Tue Dec 06, 2011 4:34 pm

The father of a Detroit toddler missing
since last week said Tuesday that her disappearance was a random act and
that he is an easy target for scrutiny.

D'Andre Lane claims he was the victim of a
carjacking last Friday and that his 2-year-old daughter, Bianca Jones,
was abducted with the vehicle.

The 32-year-old father was taken into
custody shortly after reporting the incident, and was held in jail over
the weekend on misdemeanor charges before being released Monday afternoon.

"It's their [the police's] job to focus on
all leads and I'm the easiest target right now," Lane said in an
interview with Fox affiliate WJBK-TV in Detroit. "I just wish they'd
focus on finding the right person."

When Lane was asked to describe what
happened on Friday afternoon, his attorney, Terry L. Johnson, said he
would not be commenting on details regarding the investigation.

"He's been consistent to what he said," Johnson said.

Authorities, including FBI agents, spent Monday searching Lane's Detroit home.

"There's nothing there," Lane said. "I really just think all of this is just to scrutinize me."

Johnson said his client has fully cooperated with searches and even gave consent to authorities to search his home.

A child who was in the home last Thursday
evening allegedly told police that she saw Lane beating Bianca, sources told the station.

Lane has admitted to police that he
disciplined the child, but when asked about the incident during the
interview, he said, "I've never done anything to cause [my children] any
kind of physical pain."

Lane believes Bianca's disappearance was random and not related to any issues in his past.

"If somebody thinks it's something I did,
then come after me," Lane said. "Don't come after a child who can't even
defend herself. Come after me. If it's something I did, come after me.
Bring my daughter home," he said.

"I pray that the people who did this, they just panicked," he said. "And they'll eventually let her go safely."

BIANCA JONES - 2 yo (12/2011) - Detroit MI Empty Re: BIANCA JONES - 2 yo (12/2011) - Detroit MI

Dad of missing girl threatened to kill son, ex-wife claimed in court filing

Detroit— D'Andre Lane, father of missing 2-year-old Bianca
Jones, was barred from contacting his ex-wife after she accused him of
trying to hurt their 2-year-old son, according to a personal protection
order filed in Oakland Circuit Court earlier this year.
Police continued Tuesday to search for Bianca, who was reported missing by her
father Friday morning. Lane told police he was carjacked just before 10
a.m. on the city's east side by two men at gunpoint, who took his 2004
Mercury Grand Marquis with Bianca inside. Police found the car a few
minutes after responding to the call, but the little girl was gone.
A police source told The News that Lane appeared to be cooperative during
the early stages of the investigation, but that he stopped Monday after
hiring an attorney. "He lawyered up and quit talking," the source said.

Lane's attorney, Terry L. Johnson, said that's not true. "He's
cooperating with police," Johnson said. "He just wants his daughter back."
Lane, who was released from prison in 2009 after serving
two years on gun and drug charges, was held by police for violating a
personal protection order but was released Monday afternoon from the
Oakland County Jail.
The protection order, which was filed March
10, 2011, by Lane's ex-wife claimed that Lane threatened to kill their
2-year-old son. A box was checked off on the protection form, indicating
that Lane "threatened to kill or injure" their son.
Lane's ex-wife also claimed he tried to kidnap the boy, and that he stalked her
with constant phone calls, text messages and Facebook postings.
The protection order was to remain in effect until March 31, 2012. Although
police said they were holding Lane because he violated the order, it
was unclear how he violated it.
Johnson said the accusation
should be taken with a grain of salt. "Remember, these are allegations
made by his ex-wife," he said.
Lane has received death threats
because of the public's perception that he had something to do with his
daughter's disappearance, Johnson said.
"I've advised him to stay
inside," Johnson said. "He wants to go out, but I told him it's not a
good idea for two reasons: One, every step he takes will be focused on,
and the focus should be on finding his daughter. Second, there's a
safety concern. He's getting death threats because of the information
that's coming out about him not cooperating with the investigation."
When Lane was in police custody, the FBI flew in a polygrapher to administer
a lie detector test. A police source told The News Lane scored poorly
when asked two specific questions during a failed test: "Did you have
anything to do with her disappearance?" and "Do you know where she is now?"
Police searched Lane's home on Mitchell Street three times,
confiscating several items. "I was told they took his laptop, some
flash drives, and the sheets from his daughter's bed," Johnson said.
During their investigation, police obtained surveillance camera footage to try
to corroborate Lane's carjacking report, sources said. Lane is seen on a
school surveillance tape dropping off a 15-year-old nephew at
approximately 8:10 a.m. Friday. Police interviewed the nephew, who said
Bianca was in the car when he arrived at school.
A girl, 7, was interviewed, too, but the News source said she was so upset investigators decided to temporarily back off.
Investigators also have interviewed at least two witnesses who reported seeing Lane
between 8 a.m. and when he reported his daughter missing .
One witness reported seeing Lane running from the scene of the carjacking.
Lane reportedly was carrying a firearm, according to the source.
Johnson said the leaked reports are painting a false picture of his client.
"We think the police should focus on getting the child back, as opposed to
trying to unfairly create a bad taste in the public's mouth regarding
D'Andre Lane," Johnson said.
Johnson also said the most recent search of Lane's home, in which police went in with guns drawn, was unnecessarily aggressive.
"The police went in with their guns out, kicking doors down; that's great
TV, but my client consented for them to go into his house," Johnson said.

Detroit— The father of 2-year-old Bianca Jones tearfully denied any
involvement with his daughter's disappearance, insisting he is being
painted by the police and media as "the bad guy."

During a press
conference at a west side attorney's office Tuesday, D'Andre Lane cried
while describing his anguish over his daughter's disappearance and the
public perception that he had something to do with it.

Yeah, that's a good point. Unless it was drug or gang related but he hasn't revealed that info if it's the case. But it is dumb that one man would be able to overtake him without a fight. And why would the guy dump the car and take the kid. Doesn't make sense.

Detroit— Banika Jones, mother of missing 2-year-old Bianca Jones, says she's been heartened by Detroiters who've stepped up to help in the days since her daughter's disappearance.

"People say a lot of bad stuff about Detroit, but it's wonderful to see how many people have stepped up to help," said Jones, whose daughter has been missing since Friday, when her father, D'Andre Lane, reported two carjackers stole his vehicle with the little girl in the back seat.

Jones joined dozens of volunteers who packed Metropolitan United Methodist Church Wednesday after the third day of a police-coordinated citizen search of fields, alleyways and abandoned houses.

"I'm not giving up hope," said volunteer Jacqueline Goodlett, 41, who has helped with the search since it started Monday. "If it was my own child, I'd want someone to help me."

While Goodlett and her fellow volunteers have donated their time and energy, others have put up cash. So far, $22,500 has been raised for a reward.

"It almost makes you want to cry," said Kelly Jones, Bianca's aunt. "People you don't even know who are willing to put up that much money … it's hard to put into words how much we appreciate it. One man put up $15,000; another put up $5,000; and another put up $500 — and that's in addition to the $2,000 that Crime Stoppers is offering.

"Maybe that much money will be enough to make someone come forward."

Marvin Lovejoy, owner of Lovejoy International, a printing company on Detroit's west side, has donated dozens of T-shirts, buttons and fliers bearing Bianca's image.

"I just want to help get that little girl back," Lovejoy said. "This little baby is only 2 years old, and when she came up missing, it really touched me. What can a 2-year-old do to protect herself? We need to get the information out there."

Even children are helping, Kelly Jones said. "At Loving Elementary, they're making copies of the fliers and passing them out. … People are providing food; donating batteries and flashlights — it's very touching."

Lane said he wanted to help search for his daughter, but was advised to stay home after receiving threats. Lane and his attorney, Terry Johnson, were grilled by HLN cable TV legal analyst/commentator Nancy Grace on Tuesday night. Lane faced a barrage of questions from Grace, describing his whereabouts on the day she went missing.

Johnson told The News Wednesday that his client was willing to put up with Grace's "cross-examination" because he wants his daughter home.

"People ask me, 'Why would you go on that show?' It's because we want to get the word out about Bianca," Johnson said. "My client went through what he went through … so he could get the word out to a national audience."
