SETH RILEY - 16 yo - Yuma AZ

While 16-year-old Yuma teen Seth Riley is still being sought since
running away from home last month, his mother is behind bars for
contempt of court.

According to Phoenix attorney Alan Cook, Seth
Riley's mother, Laura Cabanillas - formerly known as Laura Riley - was
ordered by a judge during a hearing in Juvenile Court on July 24 to
turn over their son's cell phone records to his father, Jimmy Riley,
and to reveal Seth's whereabouts by 6 p.m. July 26 or report to the
Yuma County jail.

Cook said instead of revealing where Seth was, Cabanillas chose to turn herself in and has been in jail ever since.

"If she is concerned about where her son is, she conceals it very well. I
guess she thought turning herself in was her best option, for whatever
reason, " Cook said. "(Cabanillas) has the key to free herself. All she
has to do is say where Seth is."

Seth, who was last seen by his mother on July 9, is described as 5 feet 2 inches tall and about 110
pounds. He has blondish brown hair.

According to Jimmy Riley, Seth attended Gila Ridge High School during the last school year and is a skateboard enthusiast.

Jimmy Riley has full custody of his son but has not seen him since late May,
when Seth went to spend part of his summer vacation with his mother.
She was supposed to return him on July 10 to his father.

Seth sent a letter to his father and the local media documenting his demands
for returning home. The letter was postmarked from San Diego, but his
father said he does not believe that is where Seth is staying.
"His son is missing and (Jimmy Riley) is very concerned," Cook said. "He would like to know where his son is."

Cook said, based on information obtained during the most recent hearing on
July 29, he and Jimmy Riley think that Cabanillas knows where Seth is
but won't say. They also believe one of Seth's friends may know where
he is.

"One of the witnesses indicated Seth was in a place his
father would never look," Cook said. "It's just a shame this is what
this has come down to."

During the most recent court hearing on
July 29, court records show Cabanillas, who is still in custody, and
her husband, Gerardo Cabanillas, at the advice of their attorney, both
pleaded the 5th Amendment when they were called to the stand and would
not answer any questions.

"I don't think it is unfair to wonder why someone who isn't guilty of anything would plead the 5th," Cook said.

Court records also indicate the Cabanillases' 15-year-old son was called to
the stand to testify but was not allowed to when the judge ruled he
could not be asked questions without an attorney present.

It was during this hearing that Seth's friend made the comment that he was somewhere his father would never find him.

Cook said Jimmy Riley is hoping someone with knowledge of Seth's whereabouts
will come forward. Anyone with any information about Seth's whereabouts
can call his father at 580-7100. Information can be provided
anonymously.

Seth Riley has not been located.
