Post by oviedo45 Fri Jun 25, 2010 2:16 pm

The parents of missing Kyron Horman appeared on national television for
the first time today to issue an emotional plea for the 7-year-old Oregon boy
to "come home."Desiree Young and Caine
Horman say they're living a "parent's worst nightmare." "Honestly it's a parent's worst nightmare," Kyron's mother, Desiree
Young, told "Good Morning America." "We've racked our brains trying to
think of reasons why. We cannot come up with anything... It's like a
portal opened up in the school and Kyron just vanished into it. It's a
mystery."
Young choked up when she tried to give her missing son the message that
she and Kyron's father, Kaine Horman, "love you and we need you to come
home."
Young described her boy as very timid and not prone to adventure.
He also can't see very well so he tends to stick very close to home.
He doesn't go outside a certain parameter... He doesn't wander off. It's
not his personality type," Young said.
Police called off major search operations last week and
seemed to focus their attention on Kyron's stepmother, Terri Horman, who
was reportedly the last person to see Kyron alive when she dropped him
off at school. Terri Horman has not been named a suspect or person of
interest in the disappearance.
Kyron's biological parents were told by authorities not to discuss
details of the investigation and are in constant contact with police and
are doing everything they can -- including their appearance on "GMA" --
to help find the boy.
"It's important to keep Kyron's face out there so everybody sees him so
hopefully someone will see him and recognize him and report that tip
that we're waiting for to bring him home," Young said.
Police Interested in Kyron's Stepmother, Terri Horman

Last week investigators asked some very specific questions about Terri
Horman's movements on the day the boy went missing -- and one of her friends told ABC News
that Terri Horman was given a polygraph test.
Police began describing the case as a criminal investigation earlier
this month. They have but since said they do not believe anyone else in
the Oregon community is in danger, causing some to speculate that police
may have had a suspect in mind, likely someone who knew Kyron.
"They've already said, 'Relax, we don't think there's someone out there
that's going to snatch your kid. We think this is an isolated
incident,'" C.W. Jensen, a retired police captain and former homicide
investigator, told "GMA" last week. "They've already told us volumes."
Police collected a questionnaire they sent out to the community in which
they asked if anyone saw Terri Horman or the white truck she driving on the day Kyron disappeared."Clearly, they need more information about what she did that day, where
she was that day, and that's why they put this out," Jensen said. Multnomah County Sheriff's Capt. Jason Gates said last week Terri Horman
is "being cooperative with investigators. The whole family is being
cooperative with investigators."
Through the ordeal, the family has remained mostly out of view, rarely
appearing in public and only once appearing together to read a
statement.
"You mean everything to us," said Tony Young, Kyron's stepfather, that
day. "And until you come home, this family's not complete. Please,
Kyron, keep up the hope."http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/kyrons-parents-emotional-plea-home/story?id=11010421&page=2

Isn't the FBI involved in this case? I can buy a cover-up in the town, but I find it really difficult to believe the FBI would help. Maybe there is more going on here than meets the eye. KYRON HORMAN - 7 yo - Portland OR - Page 16 Suspect

Remember we all thought this during our search for Caylee, We thought that maybe Tim had found her remains and LE was keeping it all hush hush, which wasn't the case. Very search indeed that this guy has posted that Kyron has been found.

No, that's just something I ran across last night . . . they (LE) don't plan on releasing the identified man's identity. He is not a POI.

My question is...why would the bio mom be protective of Terri? It doesn't make sense. I don't think the bio mom knows anything, or the police have told her to just go with the flow, until Terri cracks. Sort of like "Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer."

she might be on anti depressants - i can't believe she would protect terri - something is definitely up with this case - 3 weeks is a long time to withstand daily questioning by LE without breaking down -IMO unless you are truly a sociopath - i just don't know what to think

so after 3 weeks the parents are hitting the interview circuit - this is most unusual IMO. why now, why is it ok for them to now speak to the media when by their own admission, they weren't supposed to and didn't want their friends to speak to the media either (remember kaines' email?)

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The parents of Kyron Horman
answered questions from reporters for the first time Friday, giving
insight into the investigation and their experiences since the
7-year-old's disappearance.
Kyron disappeared from Skyline School after a morning science fair on June 4.
Multnomah County detectives are treating his disappearance as a
criminal investigation, but they have not announced whether any evidence
has been found or if there is a person of interest in the case.Kyron's
biological father, Kaine Horman, and his biological mother, Desiree
Young, said they remained out of the spotlight over the past three weeks
to keep the focus of the investigation on Kyron.
Slideshow:

"There's a lot of distractions that can come up to
that and we're trying to limit those distractions as much as possible.
And we want to find him," Horman said. "That's where our focus has been.
It's just not given us a lot of time to put a lot of thought into
statements to the public."

I noticed that too and I thought it was odd.

Kaine is being extremely careful when he talks about Terri.

In another interview they asked him how Terri reacted when she saw the flier with her picture on it, Kaine said something to the effect of I can't speak to her reactions. Why not?

If we are discounting the report that Gina Zimmerman saw Terri and Kyron at 8:15am because it cannot be found in a reputable news article, then we don't have any reliable source that saw Terri and Kyron at the school that day.

Is that right? If so, I find it so bizarre, that no one is coming out and reporting that they saw Terri and/or Kyron.

Do you think the police have asked them not to speak?

yes if you believe comments on the local news sites - the parents of the children in the school were all told not to speak to the media - and locals have posted that they have been asked not to speak to media either - notice there haven't been many, if any at all, "man on the street interviews" - like hello ms.? , how do you feel about this child missing? no interviews with the searchers, nothing at the prayer vigil that i saw - totally different than the media swarm and reporting when caylee went missing - reporters couldn't wait to nab us locals and try to get us to talk - and many did. i can't understand why this veil of secrecy.

i won't be around much after today until next sunday - so am hoping someone will keep kyron's thread updated - just post the link to the source and snip the article as they come out - we have many many people viewing his thread - i know you all will keep his story out there! TIA

Post by TomTerrific0420 Sat Jun 26, 2010 2:02 am

The parents of a 7-year-old Portland boy who disappeared from his
school three weeks ago voiced what sounded like fading hope Friday that
one of the most intense investigations in Oregon history will find him
alive.Kaine Horman and his former wife, Desiree Young, were
interviewed by national TV morning shows and by local affiliates. It was
the first interviews the birth parents of Kyron Horman have granted."Honestly,
I'm a little scared at this point," Young said. "Three weeks is a long
time. We need to bring him home."
The TV stations also showed video of Kyron provided by his family
that included footage of him at school reading a report on bridges and
singing with classmates."It's important to keep Kyron's face out
there, so that everybody sees him," Young said, expressing hope for a
tip that brings him home. The TV appearances didn't yield any
information about whether police are making any progress in the case -
the couple said they had been told not to discuss details of the
investigation.During the early days of the search, police called
Kyron a "missing endangered child." After failing to find the boy during
intense searches in woods and fields around the school, the search was
reclassified as a criminal investigation.Young, at times tearful,
described Kyron as a timid boy who doesn't like going without his
glasses because he doesn't see well."He always stays very close
to his house in the front because he's afraid of not being able to find
his house," she said.Last week, police distributed fliers showing
photos of the boy's stepmother, Terri Moulton Horman, and asking the
public for any information about her movements on the day the boy
disappeared. A friend of Terri Horman has said the stepmother has taken a
polygraph test twice. She and Kaine Horman live in a house about
two miles from Kyron's school, located in the hilly countryside west of
downtown Portland. Desiree Young lives in Medford, about six hours from
Portland.Police say Terri Horman was the last person known to
have seen Kyron. She told police she took him to school on the morning
of June 4. The school was having a science fair before classes began.
She took a photo of Kyron at the school with his own project.During
the Friday interviews, Kaine Horman said he and Terri Horman had gone
to the school bus stop together to pick up Kyron on the afternoon of
June 4. When the bus driver told them Kyron wasn't on the bus, he
thought the boy may have stayed at the school and expected them to pick
him up there. Police were alerted after the discovery that Kyron had
been absent from class.Police are not calling Terri Horman a
suspect. They have said they distributed the fliers bearing her photo in
the hopes of "jogging" people's memories.Kaine Horman and Young
wouldn't discuss law officials' interest in the stepmother. Kaine Horman
said his wife is "as committed as the rest of the family to finding
Kyron" and she is cooperating with investigators.Kaine Horman
said the last time he saw his son was before his wife took Kyron to
school that morning. The boy was in the yard feeding the cat.Harmon
said he gave the boy a hug and told him to "have a great day with his
science project," on the red-eyed tree frog, and that "I was proud of
him for all the effort" he put into it.

The parents of missing 7-year-old Kyron Horman answered
questions from reporters for the first time Friday.Kyron
disappeared from Skyline School after a science fair on June 4.
Multnomah County detectives are treating his disappearance as a criminal
investigation, but they have not announced whether any evidence has
been found or if there is a person of interest in the case. The
following is a transcript of a June 25, 2010, interview with Kyron's
biological father, Kaine Horman, and his biological mother, Desiree
Young.
Reporter: First of all, we just want to
hear about Kyron. We've heard you say that he's shy, he likes art, he
likes soccer. What else can you tell us about the kind of kid he is?
Desiree
Young:
He's got a great sense of humor. (He's) a funny, quirky
little kid. Again, he's very shy. And he likes to go to the beach. He
loves fishing and camping. He likes the outdoors.
Reporter:
We saw those pictures yesterday of you swimming with him.
Kaine
Horman:
Yeah, swimming class. He loves to be in the water. He
just loves to be outside. All his activities -- baseball, mini golf,
there's a couple pictures of him making sand angels at the beach. Those
types of things are things he just loves to do.
Reporter:
What do you both remember about the last time you saw Kyron or what you
talked about?
Desiree Young: We talked about
summer and spending more time together. And our trip that we had
planned. And he was extremely happy about that.
Kaine
Horman:
Vacation. We were actually supposed to be on vacation
right now. We were really looking forward to going down and visiting
some friends in California. We were going to be there for an extended
period of time. A lot of the families down there have kids around his
age that he knows so we were really excited about that.I saw him
the day of the science fair that morning and I was just really proud of
him for all the work he put into his project. We gave each other a
couple of big hugs and I just told him to have a great day at the fair
and enjoy presenting the project.
Reporter: I
think the thing you've heard and we've heard so much is that parents and
families say we cannot imagine what you're going through. How can you
describe and put into words what you're going through?
Desiree
Young:
The worst hell I've ever experienced. I can't even
explain it. Never in a million years would've thought we would be here.
Reporter:
Are you guys having normal days ever? Do you do chores? Do you go
grocery shopping? What is your day like?
Kaine Horman:

Every day for us, Kyron was in it. And he is in it. And it's just in a
different capacity right now. That's what makes it hard. Every day is
not a normal day.
Reporter: Are you able to have
any sense of normalcy right now or is that just gone?
Desiree
Young:
It's gone right now. Until he comes home.
Reporter:

Today is 3 weeks since he has disappeared and in that time, and I'm
sure you've heard this, this is only the second time we have seen you
guys in front of the cameras. A lot of people are asking about that.
What is your response? How can you explain why you have stayed behind
the scenes?
Kaine Horman:
A couple things.
Keeping the focus on Kyron and the investigation to find him. There's a
lot of distractions that can come up to that and we're trying to limit
those distractions as much as possible. And we want to find him. In the
first couple weeks, and well into this week as well, we've had a lot of
hours where we've spent with investigators. When we're not working with
the investigators or the investigation directly, it's working with all
the people in the community, all the volunteers, thanking as many people
as we can, focusing on efforts to get his face out. That's where our
focus has been. It's just not given us a lot of time to put a lot of
thought into statements to the public.
Reporter:
Obviously, we all know that police are keeping the details of this case
very confidential and close to the vest. Are you guys privy to more
information than the public? Or are you in the dark as well if there is
something to know?
Desiree Young: Unfortunately,
we are just reinforced every day that they have more tips and how many
tips they've gotten. To date, it's 2,500 tips now. It's the biggest case
they've ever handled.
Reporter:
Is that
frustrating for you? Do you find yourselves constantly asking them --
what else can you tell us? Can you tell us specifics?
Desiree
Young:
Yes, just like anyone else would. We want to have an
answer. We want to have Kyron right here and that's not happened yet. I
think there's a little bit of frustration there, but they're doing
everything they can. We're confident that they are throwing every resource at this and
doing everything that they can to bring him home.
Reporter:

Desiree, you're married to a police officer. I know you probably have
insight into that world, but how has your impression of police work
changed? What has impressed you about the efforts of these detectives?
Desiree
Young:
It's been phenomenal. I don't even know if I can have
everybody understand from what I have to say but being from Medford and
southern Oregon, you don't see the amount of response that has occurred
with this case. If you see more than five patrol cars at any incident,
that's a big deal down there. There's literally hundreds of thousands of
people that have come together to search or investigate or take tips or
liaison for us. I mean, there's so many people that have worked on this
case and so many people care about Kyron and want to bring him home.
Reporter:
Aside from the detectives and the official types in this case, tell me
about the support from the community and across the country. I know that
has really overwhelmed you. How can you describe that?
Kaine
Horman:
It's been amazing. People when we talk to them on a
daily basis, the description of how people in the communities around the
country have adopted him into their households -- his smile and
everything. They constantly want to know a little bit more about him and
who their new adopted child is, how they can find him and relate to
him. Every day we talk to as many people as we can when we're kind of
getting a little down time from the investigation aspect of it. But
that's how we spend our time is touching base.
Reporter:
Have you heard from parents of other missing kids?
Desiree
Young:
Yes.
Kaine Horman:
Yeah.
Reporter:
Does that help?
Desiree Young:
Yes, I would say.
I mean, it helps us feel hopeful.
Kaine Horman:

It's provided some support. As we get more opportunities to utilize
those resources through
other people and support groups and things like that, that's something
we're definitely looking into now. But based on the pace of everything,
it's been hard to get our feet settled and utilize that probably to the
fullest capability that's available to us.
Reporter:

Detectives have told us many times that in this case they're leaving no
stone unturned. Have they searched your homes, your cars and your
property?
Desiree Young:
They haven't needed to
search our house as of yet. But they're welcome to. Anything that they
need to do, we're definitely letting them do.
Reporter:

Kaine, can you talk about your property?
Kaine Horman:

Yeah, they've been down to search many times and they're welcome to
search many more times. Whatever it takes to find him.
Reporter:
Actually in the house, as well?
Kaine Horman:
Yes.
Reporter:
Also, in an unusual move, they put
out this flier to anyone associated with Kyron's school. They put
Terri's pictures and pictures of the white truck on it. What was your
reaction when that happened? What was Terri's reaction?
Kaine
Horman:
I can't speak to Terri's reaction, but my reaction to
it -- photos of the things that were last seen associated with him that
day. Through the process we've gone through, we've been asked the same
question dozens of times. In a lot of cases, when you change the frame
of reference, you think of new things and new angles that you haven't
thought of before. From my perspective, issuing that questionnaire is
just another way to get another angle or perspective from people who
were at the school that day -- and hopefully, more data points and leads
that perhaps they didn't think of the first time through when they were
interviewed by the detectives and investigators at the school. I
actually view it as a very positive step.
Reporter:

Police have said they don't have any suspects yet or persons of
interest. Did you feel like that flier being out with your wife's
pictures on it painted her as a suspect at all?
Kaine
Horman:
No. She was one of the last people who saw him that
day. It just helped associate things that were seen along with him on
that particular day, so no.
Reporter: If someone
has Kyron or someone took Kyron, what would you want to say to that
person?
Desiree Young: To let him come home. We
miss him and we love him and we need him.
Reporter:
Has that entered your mind that someone is keeping him somewhere?
Desiree
Young:
Yeah.
Kaine Horman: Yeah.
Reporter:

In your gut, what do you think happened?
Reporter:
Can you go there right now?
Desiree Young: No.
Kaine
Horman:
No.
Reporter:
Is it because
when you go there, it's too sad?
Desiree Young:

Yeah. We're trying to stay positive. We know that he's going to come
home. We just stick with that every day.
Reporter:
My last question is, if Kyron is being held somewhere, what would you
want to say to him? Desiree, I know you wrote a letter to him recently
and everything a mother would want to say to her child. If he's
watching, what do you want to say to him?
Desiree Young:

I wish I could be there to protect him. And bring him home.
Kaine
Horman:
That I love you and I miss you. And I would do
anything to trade places and to get you home. We'll keep up the search
and we will not stop until we find you.

Kyron Horman: Why was Kyron not accounted for?

Posted on June 26th, 2010 by Valhall

Excerpt:

I just put this in a comment on another thread, but I felt an urge to create an article for it – for no other reason than to keep little Kyron’s name at the top where it belongs. I want to revisit the lack of reporting to the family about Kyron’s absence from school on June 4th, the day he disappeared from the face of the Earth.

Before Roll Call

I think the main thing we should keep in mind as we discuss the issues surrounding Kyron’s absence and the lack of reporting back to the Horman family is that nothing we’ve heard so far concerning it has been confirmed except that he was marked absent. I believe Mr. Shelby, spokesman for the Portland school system is the one that confirmed Ms. Porter, Kyron’s second grade teacher, marked Kyron absent that morning.

According to what we’ve been told, it appears roll call for classes did not take place until 10:00 a.m. The school was open to family and students at 8:00 a.m. so they could tour the science fair together. Classes appear to have UNOFFICIALLY convened late at 9:00 a.m. so that the classes could be split into small groups of students led by chaperones to view the science fair. As a parent, I have to say I would be wondering why children were not accounted for at this time and prior to the science fair tour. And while I have found no official statement of exactly when roll call was made, the unofficial statements state roll call was not performed until 10:00 a.m. when the small groups completed touring the science fair.

Reports state that Kyron and Terri went to his classroom first and left his backpack and jacket in the room before touring the science fair. One account has the backpack and jacket left on top of his desk, another account has it hung in a locker/cubby space along the wall.
