Kyron Horman's family pleads, 'Don't give up hope'
Kyron Horman's aunt released the following statement on behalf of the family:
"On behalf of Kyron's family we would like to thank you. The
incredible support we've received is overwhelming. To the numerous
agency search and rescue teams there are no words to express the
gratitude we feel. You have worked tirelessly on Kyron's behalf and
continue to do so. At this point the most important thing is to get his
picture out there. We encourage if you would like to help this is what
you can do. Print out this flier and put it on the counter of every
business you can. Kyron needs to be seen. Above all don't give up as we
certainly never will."

Deputies Still Tight-Lipped About Details
So far, the
sheriff's office has released the following account of events in Kyron's
disappearance:Kyron and his stepmother, Terri Moulton Horman,
attended a school science fair Friday morning at Skyline School. She
last saw him at 8:45 a.m.Gates said the last confirmed sighting
of Kyron was at 9 a.m.Several hours passed before Kyron was
reported missing. He was supposed to be dropped off at the school bus stop near his
house at about 3:45 p.m. When he didn't show up, Moulton Horman called
the school, deputies said.School administrators conducted a quick
search of the school, deputies said, and they called the non-emergency
dispatch line to report Kyron as missing. The school district also used
its phone notification system to contact other parents and inform them
of Kyron's disappearance.Deputies started their search at 5:45
p.m. Since then, deputies said, an exhaustive search has been conducted
of the school -- even the roof -- and the woods surrounding the school
grounds.Sheriff Dan Staton said Kyron is being considered a
missing endangered child, but he has not called the case a kidnapping.

Kyron Horman's family pleads, 'Don't give up hope'
PORTLAND – Social media is having a growing impact on the breadth of the public effort to
spread the word about missing boy Kyron Horman and his family was also
using it as a way to keep in touch with relatives and friends.
Kyron’s step-mom, Terri Moulton Horman, has been reaching out for
help on Facebook by posting ongoing comments since his disappearance
last Friday.
More: 'Find
Kyron Horman' Facebook page
People were also sharing words of support for the Horman family
through social media and Terri had responded to some of the comments,
including one that thanked everyone for helping however they could.
“It was great to be out yesterday with the detectives and to see a
flyer on a car in a parking lot. Every little bit helps. We will have
more flyers here today,” one of the online posting said.
Other than Facebook, several chat rooms, along with YouTube and
Twitter pages were filled with messages of courage and tips for
investigators.
Detectives also said they were following the online messages the best
they could, in search of possible clues to the boy’s whereabouts.
“They now go into Twitter, anything that people voluntarily put on
and becomes public record, they [detectives] can go in there and they
can access that information,” explained criminal expert Larry Rasson,
who is now retired from the Portland Police Bureau.
The story has gone viral online across the nation and the world.

Just took a look at his stepmom's facebook page and she is talking about "hitting the gym" and overall seems pretty lighthearted about this whole situation....personally I would be an absolute mess, and would NOT be thinking about going to the gym, chatting on facebook or playing video games! Every bit of my time would be spent SEARCHING, HANGING FLYERS and PRAYING until I knew something/ANYTHING!!! Does this seem strange to anyone else besides me??!!
I am praying for his safe return-oh dear Lord please be with him wherever he may be....

Re: KYRON HORMAN - 7 yo - Portland OR
yes i can't imagine being on fb if my child were missing - except to encourage my friends to spread the word in the hopes that someone spots him, playing games, i just can't see that as normal behavior - but then again, i have never had a child go missing.
it still bothers me that le refuses to name who saw him at 9am at school -
and why didn't someone raise a flag when he wasn't present for the talent show?

"We suspect he went missing on Friday." (jason gates)
Can you provide any clarification
about what time he was last seen and where? Not at this time.
Clarify the timeline?"I can't answer your question completely, but I can say the last
point at which Kyron was seen was about 9:00 am on Friday morning ."
"Was that within the school?"Yes
Was the last sighting by stepmom or someone else?"I'm not able to give those details."
why would he not be able to say who saw him at 9am?

I wish every police dept would have and take advantage of proven bloodhound search dogs. Bloodhounds are miracle dogs. They have a million times the scent capacity of humans and 60 times that of German shepherds. They can as easily follow the scent trail of the person whose scent they are started on, as we can follow, with our eyes, footprints in wet sand. Bloodhounds have successfully even followed the faint scent trail made from scent rafts carried out through the car ventilation system when the windows are rolled up.

Welcome vinetender-happy to have you join us. I agree with you on the bloodhounds. In the past searches are just what the bloodhounds were used for. Their noses are very, very reliable.
Good luck getting people to listen.

The search for a missing 7-year-old Oregon boy is now in its fifth
day. Police said they are not ready to call Kyron Horman's
disappearance a criminal investigation yet, while the boy's parents have
indicated they will release a statement to the public sometime
Wednesday. "We're not prepared to call it a criminal
investigation at this point," Captain Jason Gates of the Multnomah
County Sheriff's Office told reporters Tuesday, "But we are certainly
prepared to call it a missing endangered child investigation." He
also narrowed the scope of the incident. "What I can tell you is
that we have no reason to believe that this is anything other than an
isolated case," Gates said. Kyron was reported missing by his stepmother Friday afternoon
after he did not return home from school, authorities said. According
to investigators, Kyron's stepmother said she last saw him Friday
morning walking down a hallway towards his second-grade classroom at
Skyline Elementary School. The school was holding a science fair at the time, officials said.
"We can tell you that we have completed 99 percent of the interviews
with the children at Skyline Elementary School," Gates said. "We've
also completed the majority of interviews with the staff and parents at
Skyline." The sheriff's office said no one at the school saw
Kyron after 8:45 a.m. Friday and that Kyron never made it to his
classroom. Authorities continue to pursue hundreds of tips, most
of them from Oregon and Washington. "The leads that
are being provided would not suggest that it would be a national search
at this point," Gates said. "We don't have enough information to
satisfy the criteria to complete an Amber Alert or issue an Amber
Alert," Gates explained. "Amber Alerts are designed to find children
very quickly when we have specific information."
Anyone with information on Kyron Horman's whereabouts
is asked to call the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office at 503-261-2847

I am a little frustrated that LE says the criteria has not been met to issue an amber alert...the only criteria that should be considered is the fact that there is a child missing, and it has been 5 DAYS- he could be anywhere by now (thus it COULD be a national search)......
LE has to know more than they are letting on...

Re: KYRON HORMAN - 7 yo - Portland OR
Terrified parents in Portland, Ore., have begun keeping their children out of the elementary school
where second-grader Kyron Horman vanished after an early-morning science fair.
Nearly 40 students failed to report to Skyline Elementary School
Tuesday, five days after Kyron was last seen walking toward his
classroom. He never made it.
School Principal Benjamin Keefer said he understands the concern.
"My children go to this school, so it's something that, for me, hits
really close to home," he said. "But we're all trying to stay strong and
make it through these difficult times."
Intensive search efforts have been hampered by
the cold, wet weather, frustrating authorities and increasing the
concern for Horman in case he's exposed to the weather.
The FBI and National Guard were brought in over the weekend and authorities are now calling
the search a criminal investigation even though they said earlier this
week that they had no evidence Kyron had been kidnapped.
Former FBI agent and ABC News consultant Brad Garrett
told "Good Morning America" today that while the investigation
initially didn't appear to include any viable leads, that may have changed.
"I think they're thinking … that someone did do something to this child," he said.
Horman's parents have not yet spoken publicly, but are expected to
release a statement later today.
There has been no trace of the 7-year-old boy who proudly showed off his
project on frogs at the school science fair. He was last seen by his
step-mother walking toward his classroom, 150 feet away.
Gates said a source at the school saw him around 9 a.m. Friday, but
declined to provide details. The school does not have video cameras.
The disappearance has been hard on local authorities.
"Kyron, we're going to bring you home buddy," Multnomah County Sheriff's
Capt. Jason Gates said Monday, struggling to hold back tears. "Nothing
is more important to your family and friends."
Gates said authorities have received 1,200 tips, but are continuing to
seek out anyone who was anywhere near Skyline Elementary School in Portland Friday morning.
More than two-thirds of the school's population, about 300 children in
grades K-8, showed up voluntarily Sunday to be interviewed by police.
Among their questions were about Kyron's likes and dislikes, his hobbies and his friends.
Investigators also stood in the street near the school this week around
the same time Kyron disappeared Friday, questioning drivers who may pass
the school as part of their normal routes.
Gina Zimmerman, president of the school PTA, said that her 8-year-old
daughter Madi has been a classmate of Kyron's for three years.
"He's not the type of child who would just go out of school and go
searching or wandering around," Zimmerman said. "He's just a timid, sweet boy.
"Everybody's just worried and in shock that this could happen in our
little school where everybody knows everybody," she said.

I don't blame parents for keeping kids at this school home...I mean, they have no idea if some random stranger was allowed to wander in and take off with an innocent child-if it were me, I would be thinking if it happened once it could happen again. LE is being a little too tight lipped about this investigation IMHO, if they know this was something other than a stranger abduction, they should let these poor parents know...a general statement would suffice, so that any criminal investigation would not be compromised.

Re: KYRON HORMAN - 7 yo - Portland OR
at the press conference yesterday, the principal let it slip that it was a criminal investigation, and then they ended the conference rather abruptly
something is going on here - and i hope to god they aren't waiting to find a body - i would think if he was lost in the woods, there would be a massive search, like with nadia - helicopters with infra - red, dogs, etc. i just haven't heard that about kyron.

I wonder if they think he is deceased...if they believe stepmom responsible they know she didn't leave the area (since she was playing on fb by 10) maybe that's why they are focusing on the Portland area??? Just a thought. I hope she didn't do it. :(
