After 3,300 leads, Kyron search comes back to Skyline

PORTLAND, Ore. – Investigators remain busy with 3,300 leads in the case
of Kyron Horman's disappearance. On Saturday however the search for
Kyron Horman came back to Skyline School – more than seven weeks after
the second grader was first reported missing.
Searchers took over the rural northwest Portland elementary school's
parking lot Saturday morning, from around 10 a.m. until early afternoon.
So while Kyron Horman's Wall of Hope continues to draw people to
Skyline School, on this Saturday those here to see the tributes were
surprised by something else.
Beaverton visitor Todd Wise said he saw a group of searchers leaving the
parking lot, "geared up with gear" and what looked to be lots of
supplies in their trucks.
"I asked if [they were] still searching," Wise said, "and they said, 'We
just have a couple lose ends we're following up on.'"
Multnomah County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Mary Lindstrom said
30-or-so searchers were out again. However, she said it's a routine part
of the investigation, and not directly tied to a new tip.
Former sheriff's captain turned lawyer Bruce McCain said, based on the
latest Q&A from Kyron's family - released in writing with each
word carefully chosen and vetted:
"One of the questions was: Do you have any information to believe that
Kyron is alive?" reads McCain. "The best they could come up with is 'We
continue to hope.' That puts them in the category of thousands of other
citizens that don't have any information."
Kyron's family now puts the public
pressure on 43-year-old Dede Spicher, one of Terri Horman's friends
whom they have said is hampering the investigation. But here's where
this gets even more interesting:
Spicher's father, Don Spicher works for Klamath County - the same county
that took the lead on the expanded search for Kyron.
However, the sheriff there assures us Deputy Spicher is part time and
only works summers for marine patrol, and had nothing at all to do with
the search and rescue operation. Even so, "he has to be very careful
that he's not walking the edge, helping his daughter potentially avoid
apprehension or in anyway hinder this case," McCain said.
We spoke to DeDe's cousin Saturday. He said his uncle is an honorable
man who DeDe looks up to. Her cousin said that if the deputy asked DeDe
to cooperate she would.

When word broke Thursday that authorities were putting the squeeze on DeDe
Spicher — a close friend of Terri Moulton Horman — a parallel
online investigation immediately kicked into gear.
In real time, members of true crime Internet forums around
the country began searching for the woman's footprint in the public
domain.
Forget Googling. Online sleuths unearthed Spicher's health
and gardening page on blogspot.com (she's a fitness junkie!) and then her Twitter
account was revealed. Next came a year-old photo on Flickr from a
fundraising race, and, finally, Spicher's post on Terri Horman's
Facebook page 36 hours after Kyron Horman was last reported being seen
outside his Skyline Elementary classroom: "Thinking of you and Kaine
and praying for Kyron's safe return."

Sources: Probable cause to arrest Terri Horman

Updated today at 8:30 AM
PORTLAND -- As the probe into the disappearance of Kyron Horman enters its eighth week, investigators were focusing their energy on how his step-mother, Terri Moulton Horman, spent a few key hours the morning he vanished.
There were gaps in what she had told investigators she did that day, including a key portion of time that she said she took daughter Kiara for a ride, according to reliable sources, including people who have been interviewed by investigators.
The reliable sources, including people who have been interviewed by investigators, told KGW investigators said that there was probable cause to arrest Terri in connection with Kyron's disappearance, and for soliciting someone to kill her husband but the choice has been for the investigation to continue.
Terri told investigators that she drove Kiara around a series of rural roads for an hour, saying she was trying to calm her down because she didn't feel well. Meanwhile, she told some of her friends that Kiara had an earache.
Investigators have been comparing where she said she was with what they have been able to establish about her movements that day.
There are some things she did that day that were confirmed.
She went to the gym for about 45 minutes that morning and arrived home about 1 p.m. to post pictures from the science fair on her Facebook page.
Surveillance video from stores she said she was at,along with roads she claims to have traveled were being studied to test the veracity of where she said she was for a portion of the morning.
Meanwhile, these sources say that some of Terri's friends have not only been the subject of searches, they have been interviewed by investigators and, in some cases, took polygraphs.
Terri Horman has not been charged with any crime though law enforcement officials have made it clear she is the focus of the investigation.

You are right about staying out of this, if I were an attention whore, I would have went straight to the tv station.
I have been GLP n for seven months and really didn't quite get how hooked up this place is.
The public opinion of Dede is being fuled by the Horman family and the press, if I were in any way at all even close to the case the Feds would have done been here, and they would be now after this.
I'm not close to Dede, but our relationship was positive.
I talk to her brother on a weekly basis so this is VERY close and personal to me, I took the shills, trolls and the type to heart this time, I coulnt help it.
I don't regret tell this to GLP, that is what this place is about, if you can't get that, why are you here?
The press called me, a mail order detective could have found me, I had nothing to hide so I'm not worried or scared of shit, trust me, trinity has me convinced we need to be ready for something BIG. And I am.
I was really aware of Kyrons disappearance from dayone, I felt really creepy to hear my boys name on the raido, and live here, and have school age kids, basically just being human.
Then all of a sudden this, I want my cousin to be innocent, I want Kyron to come home. I want my family to go back to normal. Well normal for us anyway.
There are wanted posters of her now all over the net, I totally understand the Hormans rage also. They are in the right, there should be no secerets and to not cooperate only projects guilt. But what if she is just like us and does not trust the Feds? Doesn't trust the local police? Thinks she is in a perfect position to become a Patsy?
You would be a fool not to lawyer up instantly, and if your dad was working in the sheriffs office would you not call him?
Everything said about Dedes involvment in this can be read into in any arguement of guilt or not guilty. There are alot of folks crying foul on the witch hunt also.
I don't want to be on tv, they want the whole family to talk like a group interview, on how we are doing and to give a look at Dede spicher that no one has heard. Only bad has been really spread out.
My family found out with the rest of the world about this and we don't know what to do. I was just trying to get a bigger view and a wide perspective on the situation by posting. I got it
thank you all for the support and the abuse. It all has helped.
No more from me on the subject.

Thanks Admin Wow, it doesn't give me any confidence. After 3 weeks he hasn't heard back from anyone following up on his call to the tip line. I think I would have kept the sock myself in the end until I spoke with an officer who is actually working the case. It sounds to me like the local jurisdiction won't send it to Multomah County. Funny, after reading the first 2 lines of his article I thought it was going to be about being treated like a suspect after phoning in his find and was shocked to read that nobody even gave a damn. Hopefully word will get around about the sock and whoever may have left it their innocently will contact him and clear it up, otherwise it's a coincidence and I don't like coincidences.Admin wrote:Interesting article:

Arrest Imminent in Kyron Horman Search?
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/07/26/earlyshow/main6713605.shtml
(CBS) After getting thousands of tips, the investigation into missing 7-year-old Kyron Hormon appears to have gone full circle, and now an arrest could be right around the corner.
CBS News correspondent Priya David Clemens reported Monday from Portland, Ore., that police have fielded more than 3,300 tips from around the world. However, on Saturday, they came back to Kyron's grade school -- the last place he was seen. Clemens reported many believe the last person who saw him, his stepmother Terri Horman, could hold the key to bringing him home.
Investigators returned to Skyline Elementary School over the weekend, searching for clues that might lead them to Kyron Horman.
Officials say they've made significant progress in the criminal investigation, but are not releasing any details. In a written response to journalists' questions, they say Kyron's stepmother "has been cooperative...and other times she has not." Since hiring a defense attorney on June 28, she's been silent.
C.W. Jensen, a retired police captain, told CBS News, "If the investigative team found out what happened to Kyron, Terri Horman would be arrested imminently."
Kyron's parents have begged Terri to talk, Clemens reported. They are also pleading with her close friend, DeDe Spicher, to cooperate. They claim Spicher is giving Terri advice that is not in the best interest of their son. Last week, the FBI searched her home.
New questions are still emerging about Terri Horman's actions the day her stepson disappeared. Several hours remain unexplained. Terri Horman claimed she left Kyron at school at 8:45 a.m. and at 11:39 a.m. she went to the gym. In that three-hour gap, she said she went shopping and drove her 19-month-old daughter around to soothe an earache. But that has not been corroborated by anyone.
Jensen told CBS News, "All these things add up to a human being that doesn't make sense."
Terri Horman posted Kyron's picture on her Facebook page that afternoon. Later, both Terri and Kyron's father Kaine went to meet the school bus. Kyron was reported missing seven hours after he vanished. In a recent interview, Kyron's biological parents said Terri's behavior that day raised their suspicions.
Desiree Young, Kyron's mother, told Clemens, "I can tell you what I ate that day, she can't tell you where she was.
On "The Early Show" Monday, Bruce McCain, former captain of the Multnomah County Sheriff's office, who just retired last year, appeared on the broadcast to offer his insights into the handling of the case.
"Early Show" co-anchor Erica Hill asked McCain about new reports that Terri Horman told her stepson's teachers that he had a doctor's appointment later that day.
Terri Horman reportedly said she alerted them to the appointment that would happen that following Friday.
McCain said this report is "quite significant" because the day Kyron disappeared was the last day of school.
He explained, "A doctor's appointment the following Friday would have been pretty irrelevant to the school but the critical thing about this June 4th doctor's appointment is that that put the school in a position of not being concerned at all, that Kyron was not in his class, wasn't at lunch or the bus that afternoon. So, it looks like at least at this point Terri was able to bring Kyron to school, establish his presence there, and then perhaps take him away, at least that's the theory they're working on, without the school picking up the phone and call Kaine (Kyron's father) at work, for example."
Terri Horman is currently not a suspect in the case.
But McCain said there seems to be some sort of premeditated plan at work here.
"Especially with the deceptive answers she gave later about, 'Gee, I think I meant June 11th,' which is long after school is out. The key is going back, refocusing and reconstructing every hour and minute she spent on that fateful June 4th to find out exactly where the holes are in her original story."
Hill pointed out in the Terri Horman's timeline of that morning there is a three-hour period where we're not really sure what was happening between the time she dropped Kyron off, the last time she saw him at school, and showed up at the gym. Terri Horman's friend DeDe Spicher is also being questioned about those times.
McCain said those periods are significant, he said, "especially given the close relationship between DeDe and Terri."
McCain said, "The investigators seem to be putting pressure on Terri's closest friends, associates and family to basically tell them, it's time to get on the right side of this issue. DeDe right now seems to be on Terri's side and we'll see how long that lasts. That critical 90-minutes for both of them is where they seem to be focusing efforts on June 4th day."
Hill added Kyron's father and mother say Spicher is hampering investigation. The sheriff's department recently came out and answer questions from journalists via e-mail, Hill said. One question that was asked was whether they have any information to believe whether Kyron is alive. They didn't answer it directly.
McCain said, "They could not bring themselves to say yes. The best they could do is, 'We continue to hope.' That put the sheriff's office in the same position as thousands of others looking for Kyron."
He added, "Bottom line is Kyron is either alive and dead, and that's the blunt truth right now. So, right now the key is to try to put pressure on Terri and perhaps through an arrest on an unrelated criminal episode. This would be the murder hire for-hire plot. Using that could potentially leverage the truth out of both people involved in this. Right now, Kyron is simply missing and nobody, including investigators, seem to know what happened to him."
Clemens added the Multonomah County sheriff is expected to speak on Tuesday after several weeks of silence, which has many here hoping for answers or a break in the case.

Clemens added the Multonomah County sheriff is expected to speak on Tuesday after several weeks of silence, which has many here hoping for answers or a break in the case.

Kaine Horman asks court to have estranged wife pay half of his
attorney

Kaine Horman has filed a motion in court this morning, asking a judge to
order his estranged wife, Terri Moulton Horman, to disclose the source
of the reportedly $350,000 she has paid to retain criminal defense
attorney Stephen Houze.
"If Respondent has provided funds to her
attorneys for her legal representation and considers them to be marital
liability, these funds are marital property and Respondent should be
required to pay one-half of these funds to Peitioner to use for his
attorney fees and costs," wrote Laura Rackner, Kaine's attorney.
Houze, Terri Horman's attorney, declined comment.
Kaine Horman, a software engineer at Intel Corp., argues that the
divorce and restraining order proceedings involve complex legal and
safety issues" that require his attorneys to expend a significant amount
of legal services to him to protect the interests of he and Kiara.
He argues that he doesn't have sufficient income or resources to pay for
his attorneys and meet his other financial obligations for the children
and himself.
The filing is the latest legal maneuvering by Kaine
Horman as the investigation into the June 4 disappearance of his
7-year-old son Kyron stretches into its eighth week. Kyron was last seen
at his Skyline School that morning, and his stepmom is the last known
person to have seen him after taking him to the school science fair.
Kaine Horman left their home on Northwest Sheltered Nook Road with their
young daughter, Kiara, now 20 months old, on June 26 after authorities
told him that his wife six to seven months earlier had tried to hire a
landscaper to kill him.
Two days later, Kaine Horman filed for divorce, and a restraining order against Terri Horman, restricting her
from any parenting time with Kiara.
He successfully pushed to get her out of the house he owned as soon as possible, and has a pending
motion to find her in contempt of court, saying she shared a sealed
restraining order with a high school friend of his, Michael Cook, who
showed up at their house after Kyron disappeared. The contempt of court
filing also claimed Terri Horman was "sexting" Cook and having an
intimate relationship with him, days after Kaine Horman left the house.
Terri Horman left their house and moved to her parent's house in Roseburg.
A hearing on the contempt of court motion is still set for Sept. 21.
Rackner asks the court to set a hearing date if Terri Horman contests her
latest motion to have her pay Kaine Horman to help cover his legal
expenses, and disclose the source of any money used to pay her attorney.

DeDe Spicher, identified as a close friend of Terri Moulton-Horman,
testified before the grand jury Monday in Multnomah County as part of
the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Kyron Horman.
Grand jury proceedings are not open to the public or the media, so it
was unknown exactly what Spicher said. However, her attorney did
confirm that Spicher was subpoenaed to testify.
A reliable source told KGW that Spicher was doing gardening work not
far from the Horman family home in Northwest Portland on the day Terri's
step-son, 7-year-old Kyron Horman, disappeared. Spicher reportedly left
where she was working at 11:15 a.m. on June 4 and returned around 1
p.m.
The person who owns the house where Spicher lives, who was
cooperating with investigators, told police that she called Spicher on
her cell phone but she didn't answer, the source told KGW. A person who
was working with Spicher, who was also cooperating with investigators,
told them of trying to unsuccessfully find Spicher. Both people have
told investigators they have no idea where Spicher was during that
period of time.
Sources told KGW that police searched Spicher's home last week.
Spicher has known Terri and Kaine for about seven years. Last week,
Kyron's parents, Kaine Horman and Desiree Young issued a public plea for
Spicher to cooperate with police, threatening a possible civil suit if
she refused.

Spicher atty. would be 'surprised' if Terri not arrested in Kyron case
PORTLAND, Ore. -- DeDe Spicher, identified as a close friend of
Terri Moulton-Horman, appeared before a grand jury Monday in Multnomah
County as part of the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of
her step-son Kyron Horman.
Spicher's attorney told NBC Dateline that he would be "surprised" if Terri was not arrested in the case.
Grand jury proceedings are not open to the public or the media, so
it was unknown exactly what Spicher said. However, her attorney did

NBC Dateline was set to air a special edition about the case 10 p.m. Monday.
Spicher's attorney Chad Stavley told NBC Dateline Monday that
Spicher had been, and planned to keep, cooperating with investigators.
"I would be, frankly, surprised if Terri Horman did not eventually
face charges in this case," Stavley said. "I'd be surprised if the
indictment didn't come down."
The person who owns the house where Spicher lives, who was

Eighteen certified search and rescue volunteers are heading back into
the area near Skyline School this morning to look for signs of missing
Kyron Horman.
Seven-year-old Kyron was last seen inside Skyline
Friday morning. An intensive search and investigation into his
disappearance were launched that day and extended through the weekend.
Authorities canvassed motorists on Northwest Skyline Boulevard this morning as
school resumed. Students played in the playground during recess, while
the national media descended on the normally quiet neighborhood.
On Sunday, searchers worked into the night. They faced challenging terrain
and steady rain, which complicated the effort and quickly wore out
searchers, said Sgt. Diana Olsen, coordinator of the Multnomah County
Sheriff’s Office search and rescue operation.
“We lost searchers real quickly yesterday," she said. "They got cold and wet and went homeearly.”
Here's a report stating school resumed. Can we verify whether the day Kyron went missing was the last day of term or not? Doesn't sound like it was to me.

Dateline NBC puts story of missing Kyron in national eye
Published: Monday, July 26, 2010, 11:17 PM Updated: Tuesday, July 27, 2010, 12:35 AM
Michael Russell, The Oregonian
"Dateline NBC" cast a national spotlight Monday on the more than 50-day search for missing second-grader Kyron Horman.
The particulars of the story are already familiar to many in Oregon and beyond who have followed the case's every twist and turn: the science fair, the school bus, the search, the alleged murder-for-hire plot and recent legal wrangling.
The centerpiece of the hour-long program, titled "Little Boy Lost," was an emotional tour of the Medford home of Kyron's mother and stepfather, Desiree and Tony Young.
Desiree Young showed an NBC reporter Kyron's bed, with Batman sheets and pillowcase still rumpled from the last time the 7-year-old visited them.
Kyron's birth parents, Desiree Young and Kaine Horman, reiterated their belief that his stepmother, Terri Moulton Horman, knows more than she's told investigators.
And Medford Police Detective Tony Young, Kyron's stepfather, offered his take on the what happened June 4, the day Kyron was last reported seen.
“I absolutely believe that Terri Horman is involved in Kyron's disappearance,” he said.
Young said he suspected Moulton Horman early on, when he was explaining to the family how their privacy would disappear as detective proceeded with their investigation.
“She instantly started to express some displeasure at that, feeling like she was being persecuted,” he said. “I thought that was an unusual reaction so early.”
For Young, “strike two” came when investigators told him cell phone records belied Moulton Horman's timeline of where she was the day Kyron disappeared.
Monday's show did not include a "strike three" from Young, who has been kept him at arm’s length from the investigation by Multnomah County sheriff's detectives. Moulton Horman has not been named as a suspect, and no charges have been filed.
Noticeably missing from the program was a voice representing Moulton Horman, who has kept quiet as the criminal investigation into Kyron's disappearance has zeroed in on her.
Moulton Horman’s defense attorney, Stephen Houze, declined to comment for the program, citing the “ethics of the court.”
Court documents filed on behalf of Kaine Horman earlier Monday claim that Moulton Horman paid $350,000 to retain Houze. The motion, filed by Kaine Horman's attorney, Laura Rackner, ask a judge to order Moulton Horman to disclose the source of those funds.

Kyron Horman Update: Clarifying Stepmom’s Entry Into the Family
4:48 PM July 26th, 2010 by James Pitkin
With news blowing up today in courtroom action surrounding missing 7-year-old Kyron Horman, tonight’s episode of Dateline NBC promises to cover the case in a much more personal direction.
The TV news magazine boasts it will take viewers “inside the family circle” to explore relations among Kyron’s relatives, who include father Kaine Horman, biological mother Desiree Young and stepmom Terri Moulton Horman.
One of the subjects that could very well come up on Dateline is how Terri Moulton Horman joined the family. She married Kaine Horman in 2007. It’s been reported elsewhere that Terri was a friend of Young’s who moved in with Kaine Horman to help take care of Kyron. But when Kaine Horman and Young sat down with WW earlier this month, they said they wanted to set the record straight on that point.
They said Young had custody of Kyron when Terri Moulton moved in with Kaine Horman.
“We were never friends,” Young said. “I didn’t meet her until after she moved in with Kaine.”
Both Kaine Horman and Young told WW that misinformation in the media had come from Terri Moulton Horman and her friends.
“There’s kind of this fairy tale out there, and there’s what there really is,” Kaine Horman said. “That’s how a lot of this information is getting out. It goes to Terri, and then it goes to other sources.”
Watch tonight’s Dateline at 10 pm for more details.
