Officials to share information into Oregon boy's disappearance
By the CNN Wire Staff
Updated July 27, 2010 3:47 a.m. EDT
(CNN) -- Authorities in Oregon will hold a news conference on Tuesday to share information on the status of their investigation into the disappearance of 7-year-old Kyron Horman.
The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office has said it has developed 3,300 leads from tips that continue to pour in, and that "significant progress" been made in the investigation. But the office has not provided details.
The news conference Tuesday is expected to offer further information.
On Monday, a spokeswoman for the sheriff's office declined to comment on published reports that an arrest in the case is imminent.
Kyron has been missing since June 4.
His stepmother, Terri Horman, told investigators that she last saw Kyron as he walked down the hall toward his second-grade classroom at Skyline Elementary School.
On Monday, a woman who has been in close contact with Terri Horman was subpoenaed to meet with the grand jury investigating the disappearance.
Police have not named a suspect in the case, but intense scrutiny has been placed on the stepmother.
DeDe Spicher is a friend of Terri Horman's who stayed with her after Kyron's biological father filed for divorce shortly after his son's disappearance and moved out of the family home.
In divorce filings, Kaine Horman has said he believes that Terri Horman "is involved in the disappearance of my son Kyron."
Spicher appeared before an investigative grand jury in Portland on Monday, according to her attorney, Chad Stavley.
Stavley, who told HLN that he was retained Friday, said Spicher was not asked any questions by the prosecutor but was ordered to return at a future date.
A statement released Friday by Kaine Horman and Kyron's mother, Desiree Young, described Spicher as someone who "has been in close communication with Terri [and] has been providing Terri with support and advice that is not in the best interests of our son."
The statement also described Spicher as uncooperative in the investigation and "going as far as to suggest to others that may have information regarding Kyron's disappearance not to cooperate as well."
Stavley disputed those comments Monday, saying Spicher has been "extremely cooperative" with police as they executed search warrants on her home and car. He said she also met with the lead investigator in the case last week for more than three hours.
He added that Spicher is not speaking to Terri Horman.
The Oregonian reported that detectives have asked Spicher about her whereabouts June 4.
According to the newspaper, Spicher was doing gardening work for a Portland homeowner when she "abruptly left about 11:30 a.m."
The homeowner tried reaching Spicher on her cell phone, the newspaper reported, but got no answer. Spicher returned to the house about 90 minutes later, the newspaper reported, citing detectives.
Stavley declined to comment Monday on what Spicher was doing during those 90 minutes.
Officials with the sheriff's office say they believe that "criminal behavior has occurred" in Kyron's disappearance, even as they hold out hope that the boy will be found safe.
"We are continuing to hope Kyron is alive and will proceed under that premise," the office said in response to written questions submitted last week by the media.

What Did Terri Horman Do?
Excerpt:
UPDATE: Press Conference today. Will Terri Horman be arrested prior to the press conference? Spicher's attorney expects arrest.
What did his client tell him?
Question: Why is the focus upon Terri Horman?
Answer: 1. Terri Horman is the last person known to see Kyron Horman alive. This is normal. When a child goes missing, the investigation begins in the household and spreads a circle wider and wider, as each family member is cleared, beginning with the parents/step parents, etc. When family is cleared (sometimes immediately due to cooperation) it goes to extended family, and then on to family friends, contacts, neighbors, known sex offenders, and so on. The last suspects are strangers to the family.

Kaine documents: Terri paid $350,000 to retain her attorney
Story Created: Jul 27, 2010 at 9:22 AM MDT
Story Updated: Jul 27, 2010 at 9:22 AM MDT
PORTLAND, Ore. – Kaine Horman, the father of missing 7-year-old Kyron Horman, filed paperwork Monday with Multnomah County to seek money from his estranged wife, Terri Horman, to pay for his mounting legal bills.
According to court documents dated July 26, Terri Horman has "tendered payment of $350,000 to her attorney Stephen Houze for her legal representation."
We do not know if that money has actually been paid to Houze, a Portland-based criminal defense attorney. Court documents however allege Terri "has indicated in a written communication to a third party" that she paid that amount.
Kaine's attorney said Terri Horman "should be required to immediately disclose the source and amount of such funds."
Portland-based child custody attorney Laura Rackner, who represented Kaine in Monday's filing, also wrote in court documents that if Terri borrowed the money, and if that loan is considered a marital liability, then the cash should be considered a shared marital asset. That, said Rackner, would make Terri Horman responsible for giving half of the $350,000 to Kaine Horman for his "attorney fees and costs."
Meanwhile, Rackner said Kaine "does not have sufficient income or resources to pay for these legal services and meet his other financial obligations for the children and himself."
If Terri contests the motion, then Kaine's attorney asks that Terri pay his attorney fees for filing the motion.
Meanwhile, investigators and a grand jury continue to gather evidence.
A Multnomah County grand jury investigating the disappearance on Monday subpoenaed Terri Horman's close friend DeDe Spicher.
Spicher's attorney, Chad Stavely, said Spicher was asked no questions but told to return, possibly within a few weeks.
Chief Deputy District Attorney Norm Frink declined to comment.
Stavely said Spicher is fully cooperating with investigators, including an interview last week that lasted more than three hours.
Stavely disputed allegations made in a statement last week by Kaine Horman and the Youngs, that Spicher was advising others not to talk to law enforcement.
"We've had several follow-up visits with detectives and the lead prosecutor, and the idea she's encouraging other people not to cooperate is just completely not founded in any fact," Stavely said.

More from "the cousin":
Re: MY COUSIN HAS JUST BEEN IMPLICATED IN THE KYRON HORMAN CASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | |
I'm back, Dede has shared texts, and all records, her lawyer says she will return to go before the grand jury, and that he would be surprised if Teri was not arrested. Now I've heard here that lawyers could not be trusted, I know that during my custody battle for my children my lawyer proved that BS. I got sole custody. (conjecture) If Teri was cold enough to attempt a murder for hire, could she be cold enough to try to rationalize that a griving father who so desperately missed his son and became stricken with grief and morose, that the public could buy a "suicide" I'm feeling with my WS intuition that Teri disapeared Kyron and was gunna bump the dad with a suicide cover. She decived Dede and used her to get what she needed to get it done. She could have manipulated Kyron with hey let's play skip school day, I'm going to leave, you walk out the back door and get in the car. We will have a picnic. Now all that shit is strictly fiction. We all are free to comeup with our own ideas and scream it out loud to the people of this country, for how much longer I'm not sure. But the point is every body just needs to calm down and watch what happens now. Insults and theories are now just wagers on the outcome of this jury. http://www.godlikeproductions.com/forum1/message1141412/pg47 |

I read every post on this at GLP and it is a zoo trying to sort out the truth from conjecture (LOL).
There has been something on my mind about TH taking the truck that day to pick up Kyron's science project. Why would anyone email the teacher in the early afternoon (after lunch) when common sense tells you the teacher is with the students and would not even look at an email until after school? Especially when you have a school event taking place at 1:00pm the same day? Also Kaine had given the info in an interview, this was the very reason TH took the truck that day, was to pick up Kyron's science project.
Can anyone shed some light on this? As a M it does not make sense to me. Why not call the school, they could find out in a heartbeat. The Science Fair was over at 10:00 am.
God is blessing you Kyron!

i think it may be part of her plan to create an alibi - we don't have confirmation that she did email the teacher (but LE does by now, they have seized her computer and cell phone) and i think these "stories" not adding up are precisely why they haven't been able to clear her - IMO. this was another ruse/lie she told about that day.

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The mother of an Oregon boy missing for 53 days tearfully told her son not
to give up hope, while investigators doubled the reward for information
leading to his whereabouts. The Multnomah County Sheriff's
Department says "significant progress" is being made in the search for
7-year-old Kyron Horman but declines to offer details. The $25,000
reward has been increased to $50,000. At a news conference
Tuesday afternoon, Desiree Young broke down while addressing her son,
sobbing: "We are all coming to get you to bring you home."
Kyron vanished June 4 after attending a science fair at Skyline
Elementary School in northwest Portland. The case has taken many twists
in the weeks since, many of them centered on stepmother Terri Horman.

Day of Kyron Horman's disappearance, e-mails from Terri Moulton Horman reveal something amiss
Published: Tuesday, July 27, 2010, 7:54 PM Updated: Tuesday, July 27, 2010, 8:32 PM
The day Kyron Horman quietly vanished from Skyline School, stepmother Terri Moulton Horman sent several e-mails to the boy's mom -- but something was amiss.
Instead of the usual long, chatty messages, the ones on June 4 were spare and straight to the point, said Desiree Young, Kyron's mother.
"One-sentence e-mails she'd shoot off to me," Young said Tuesday in a one-on-one interview with The Oregonian. "She e-mailed me three of four times that day, which is kind of strange."
That communication now arouses the suspicion of Young and her ex-husband, Kaine Horman, who say they think Terri --Kaine's estranged wife -- had something to do with the second-grader's disappearance. Investigators say Terri Horman was the last person to see the 7-year-old boy after dropping him off at school science fair.
The odd e-mails were among several revelations to emerge as the missing-child case nears the end of its second month. On Monday night, Kaine Horman acknowledged to "Dateline NBC" that he'd had an affair with Terri when Desiree was eight months pregnant with Kyron.
Kaine Horman told The Oregonian that Terri Horman deliberately misled friends about when their relationship began, saying they met when he hired her to take care of Kyron.
"Completely false," he said.
The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, heading a massive criminal investigation of Kyron's disappearance, announced Tuesday that it is doubling its reward for information about his whereabouts from $25,000 to $50,000. An anonymous donor is funding the reward.
"Significant progress is occurring in this case," Capt. Monte Reiser said in an afternoon news conference in Northeast Portland, 25 miles east of the rural school where Kyron went missing. "We believe Kyron's disappearance involved criminal behavior because his parents have been deprived of their son for 53 days. We remain steadfast, determined and focused in our work to bring Kyron home to his family."
Sheriff's deputies have logged 11,000 hours in the case and developed 3,500 leads. In their morning interview with The Oregonian, Kyron's parents remained resolute in their belief that Terri Horman knows something about where Kyron is. But Kaine Horman said nothing seemed out of the ordinary when he came home from his job at Intel just after 2 p.m. the day of the disappearance and found his wife in a chair tapping on her laptop computer.
Terri told Kaine about the school's science fair and Kyron's diorama of a red-eyed tree frog. There was nothing about her demeanor that he found peculiar.
"She showed me the photos of Kyron really quick," he recalled. "I went and found Kiara" -- their toddler was playing in her room -- "and gave her a hug, grabbed something to eat."
Within hours, Kaine Horman's world turned upside down. He would wait for Kyron's bus with Terri, only to find that his son was missing from school.
For the next 10 days, 500 searchers would comb the rolling green farmland around Skyline School, the Horman home on Northwest Sheltered Nook Road and nearby Sauvie Island -- the biggest search and rescue operation ever recorded in Oregon.
The case took a strange turn two weeks later, when investigators told Kaine Horman that his wife had allegedly attempted to hire a landscaper to kill him. He filed for divorce, obtained a restraining order against her and gained custody of their daughter.
Investigators have focused intently on Terri Horman, but she faces no criminal charges and has not been named a suspect in the case.
Kaine Horman, Desiree Young and her husband, Medford police detective Tony Young, have publicly distanced themselves from Terri while urging her and at least one of her closest friends to cooperate with authorities to help find Kyron.
Before the split, Terri Horman was vocal about the way authorities were leaning on her, the missing boy's parents said.
At one point, they said, she complained to them that investigators were pressuring her about where she went after dropping Kyron at school.
Terri told them that investigators were confused about where she traveled, because her story didn't jibe with cellular phone records that indicated she traveled elsewhere.
In previous interviews, Kaine Horman said Terri failed her initial polygraph, walked out of a second and waited more than a week before agreeing to a third.
Kaine Horman and Desiree Young said Tuesday that they, too, along with Tony Young, were interviewed by police and took polygraph exams. They said they believe investigators ruled them out as suspects within four days.
"They were working with me pretty heavily up to the polygraph," Kaine Horman said, "and I think the polygraph was my last step."
The 36-year-old software engineer and Kiara, now 20 months old, have moved back into the home vacated by his wife. But he has not yet returned full time to his job at Intel. He spends many days meeting with investigators and doing news interviews to keep his son's case in the public eye.
Kiara has been away from her mom Terri Horman for about a month, he said, and does not ask about her.
"She's a new kid," he said. "She's a whole new kid now."
Kyron's parents said they remained flummoxed about where Terri Horman came up with $350,000 to hire high-end defense lawyer Stephen Houze.
"Good question," Kaine Horman said. "I want to know the answer, too."

DeDe Spicher

No Statement Analysis in this post.
"Why won't you say anything? This little boy has been missing a long time" said a reporter to DeDe Spicher. Spicher didn't answer her.
Desiree Young, mother of missing 7 year old Kyron Horman, and Kaine Horman, father of Kyron, have alleged that DeDe Spicher encouraged Terri Horman to hold her silence regarding the disappearance of Kyron Horman.
Both parents have alleged that DeDe Spicher sent text messages to friends discouraging them from cooperating with police.
After the public announcement by the parents, DeDe Spicher retained an attorney, who has now denied the allegations by Kyron's parents.
DeDe Spicher was subpoenaed to appear before a Grand Jury.
DeDe Spicher was asked by a reporter if she knows what happened to Kyron Horman, and DeDe Spicher remained silent in the face of this question, and some similar questions.
DeDe Spicher has a reason to be silent.

Kyron Horman, little lost boy

Although I haven’t posted on the disappearance of Kyron Horman, I have closely followed his story and have been watching the drama surrounding it. This little boy’s case has and does weigh so heavily on my heart, and I know it has taken a toll on many of you as well. His story holds special significance for me because Kaine Horman and Desiree Young’s son disappeared the day my son was getting married. June 4th, 2010 will forever be remembered as a day of horror for his family, and a day of joy for mine. On June 4th we gained a daughter-in-law and a 7 year old grandson, while their 7 year old son went missing.. The contrast between our family’s perfect day and their family’s perfect nightmare has bothered me so much that I have not been able to post on Kyron until today.

Kyron Horman case: Parents give informative interview

A 25 minute interview was conducted yesterday with Kaine Horman and Desiree Young that I believe is the most informative we have had to date. I urge anyone following this case who has not listened to it yet to take the time to do so. A lot of false rumors are cleared up and revelations into what a bold faced liar Terri Horman is were presented as well. So let’s spend some time on the information given in this interview and set some things straight for ourselves.

I read the story posted by Mom in Il ; If Terri has been drinking heavily since 2005, wouldn't Kiara have had complications at birth?

yes, i would think so, but she may have stopped during pregnancy and therefore, no fetal alcohol syndrome? and then resumed again - that certainly would account for her weight gain -
